I remember my fathers 1973 Ford 9000 10 wheeler dump truck with the V8 Detroit, love the sound of them engines. He bought it brand new in 1973 and it cost $25,000 back then, now you pay that for a car.
Haven’t seen one of these on the road in a long time I’ve always liked these Ford trucks these are the ones built ford tough... not these little pansy f150 that you got to take a second mortgage on your home to buy now...
But then again I don't think Ford makes heavy trucks any more, they became I want to say sterling. I know a while back I seen a Ford cargo with the Sterling badge, how times change
you had to love a Louisville Ford....I love the one s with Detroit, but I worked for a school bus, triaxle dump outfit that was all Ford....all of our 40 dumps were LOADED 9000's with 13 spd and 425 cat's 1989 and 1990 model.....soon as school was out.....all asphalt all summer..... never a dot Problem since he bought new ones every two or three years
From what I've seen on tv/youtube there are what are essentially Volvo's getting around the UK re-badged as Ford's (Ford still owns a majority share in Volvo). I'm pretty sure Ford Australia was still making the L9000 for the local market until 98 or 99 even after Sterling's were on the market over here. The Cargo never sold well over here and I think they were only on the market from 82-88, Japanese trucks were always more popular for light/medium duty trucks.
I ran a 94 L9000 short nose tri axle dump in Ky for a time. It was underpowered at 80000 lbs gross With a L10 300 hp cummins. I had to shift the 8LL like a 13 speed. 5 LL 3,4 direct the 5 on top. Manual crank flip tarp no ac blacktop hauler. I miss it sometimes.
The original 1976 LTL9000! That was initially available with the following engines: Cummins NTC-300 (standard) Caterpillar 3406 Caterpillar 3406 Economy (1900 rpm) Detroit Diesel 8V71N 318 hp (optional) Detroit Diesel 8V71T 350 hp (optional) Detroit Diesel 8V71TT 305 hp (1950 rpm) (optional) The three Detroits were all discontinued after 1977, as they would become exclusive options for the new 1978 CL9000 COE, along with the 6V92T and 6V92TT and the 8V92T and 8V92TT.
A damn shame I did not see L and C9000's from Dollinger Transport or Tipton Trucking. They are from my home town of Oxford, PA Southern Chester County.
Never understood putting a Detroit in a ford. Deal breaker for me personally. Much preferred the cummins or cat. But love all the fords regardless of power plant.
The LTL9000 is one of the best looking trucks ever produced.
I actually have driven a lot of these trucks!
After the superliner 😎imop
@@skycowboy_7391 ....maybe
@@dwynepen7626 it’s all opinions they all look good back in the day
@@skycowboy_7391 @you got that right .. i drove Petes n Kenworths and Macks from the 90s
I love the Ford LTL 9000, one of the best, most stylist looking truck ever produced and still looks great in 2021.
I am keeping my Ford ltl9000 for life.
Ford had a good thing going back in the day...Tis a shame they didn’t stick with it! Their trucks had great style & character. Cabovers rule!

+Todd Barker And you don't get much for that 25K!
$25k in 1973 is equal to $150k in todays money. People always seem to forget about inflation.
Didn't know Ford put a Detroit in their products. I thought they were strictly Cat
Great video; especially the ones with the Detroits
No Stinkin' F150s Or SUPER DUTYs Or Pickups Here! Nossir!!
THESE ARE REAL FORD TRUCKS!!
I'm a Ford Truck man...as long at they look this one!
What?? *ford is Ford just shut up u sound stupid*
You have to be very dumb to compare a Pickup Truck to a Heavy Duty Semi.
These are better trucks than the ones it’s being made today and more dependable
My dad's l9000 from 1988/1990 came with the big cam 400 cummins. 18speed with air ride
Beautiful old ford trucks !
Very overlooked trucks, nice to see you post them. Now another IH Transtar conventional would be even better.
peterv56 I've always liked the LTL, nice look rig. Maybe toss a DD under the hood for a perfect combo.
Can't beat the sound of a detroiter.
That W9000 is just amazing looking and sounding isn't it?!!
Haven’t seen one of these on the road in a long time I’ve always liked these Ford trucks these are the ones built ford tough... not these little pansy f150 that you got to take a second mortgage on your home to buy now...
Same with any other brand
You are comparing 2 completely different classes of trucks! Shows how much you know about trucks...lol
Another dumbass.
Not a truck guy but I am a ford guy and those trucks are super cool 😎 Love me some fords!
All of the were "Hard In Tha Yard"!!!
Knew I heard Detroits in there.
I love these Louisville sluggers, but it is funny to see a Ford truck with a GM Detroit diesel
Elizabeth Cherry Yeah, times were crazy back in the day. You'll never see a Detroit outside of Freightliner or WS now.
But then again I don't think Ford makes heavy trucks any more, they became I want to say sterling. I know a while back I seen a Ford cargo with the Sterling badge, how times change
+Elizabeth Cherry Sterling trucks are no longer in production since 2009.

Too bad Ford gave away their trucks to that monopoly Frightliner
Agree
I love the old Louisville, daddy built them in the 70s.
A damn shame I did not see L and C9000's from Dollinger Transport or Tipton Trucking. They are from my home town of Oxford, PA Southern Chester County.
David Almes They might have been at the show. Over 1500 trucks on hand were more than I could see.
Oh wow. Big turn out
Cool video
🚚🚚🚛🚛🚚 I very seldom see any semi trucks with the cabover body styles around nowadays.
I want to buy that first one !
Matthew James Save your pennies. There are still a few out there.
Love these trucks Ford!
