kata is always good for balance and co-ordination, I just love all the variation within any Kata, be it a high level Kata or an introduction to Kata for new students.

I personally wonder just where the JKA is heading with things like 3 different height positions for 'hikite' on jodan, chudan and gedan shuto. This seems somewhat pointless. Does it add more balance and more power? I don't believe so, and just seems like change for change sake.
Now we have the uchi uke from Kanku dai that appears to avoid the blow with body weight transfer? If that's the intended application of uchi uke, then why not simply move the foot further to side to actually achieve a dodge that actually works?
