    I agree with what you are doing, but with a little more work you can dilute the fert just a little before pouring into down tube to feel better about its dispersal ?

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  3 месяца назад

      Sure, that’s a good idea. But using the fertilizer injector is just so much easier, and fool proof.

  • @ClickinChicken

    MY BOSS, says that people have been seeing black bears here in MN, because the berry season is late coming. Why don't you point the emitter to the base of the plant? THank you Texas, in many ways, 'we're following your lead.

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  3 месяца назад +1

      It’s not necessary to position the emitter in any certain way. If it was squirting out of the tub, then yes. Otherwise, I just let it pour into the tub.

  • @michaelmosley254

    When groing the berrys in the tubs do they ever get root bound and you have to thin em

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  3 месяца назад +2

      They’ve been in these tubs for four years. I have never had to separate the roots or anything like that. Yes, I’m sure they are very, very root bound. But since all the new canes come from roots, I don’t see that as being a problem.
      However, if you wanted to pull them out and separate them, you could get many many more plants that way. Split them up and put them in separate containers. I just don’t have a need for that right now.

  • @chrisvanderwoerd9932
    @chrisvanderwoerd9932 3 месяца назад

    The injector is great! I've been doing Fertilizer Friday by hand, but it now takes two to three days. Questions: Do you ever thin the blackberries? Mine are in Earthboxes and are so thick, I can't see most of the berries. I prune out the old, but there are so many new it's like a forest. Also, do you still use micro boost on tomatoes? How much and how? Blessings.

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  3 месяца назад

      No, I never seen the blackberries. But, you certainly could. In fact, it’s a great great way to get new plants if you want them. Take out about half of the root ball that’s in the box and plant it in another earth box.
      The micro boost is something I really believe in. I need to do my tomatoes and peppers right now 😊

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  3 месяца назад

      If your tomatoes are in containers, you could put about one teaspoon to 1 tablespoon per container and then water down the tube really well to mix it up.

    @ryanrose2330 Месяц назад

    Al, I’ve watched most of you videos on container blackberries and have done my best to strictly adopt your model. Does it matter what is used for trellis wire? I had an extra roll of heavy gauge electric fence wire, and used that because it was available. Unfortunately when I tie branches/laterals to the wire the leaves all fall off 8”-10” above and below that spot, and there is no new growth. Have you had any issues like that. I have a mix of plants, Prime-Ark Freedom, Arapaho, Apache, and Kiowa.

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  Месяц назад +1

      Interesting…
      I’m using electric fence wire myself. I believe it is 17 gauge. I’ve never seen leaves fall off that I attributed to a reaction to the wire.

    Didn't you trial Earhboxes for blackberries. Could you do a video on how that worked. Thanks!

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  2 месяца назад

      Yes, I had two blackberry plants in an earth box for about two years. I wound up giving it to my neighbor. I can’t say for sure if it last would last for many years because he planted it in the ground. But, I am very much considering putting all these blackberries that are in blue tubs in earth boxes this fall. I think they would do very well.

  • @robertharris4661
    @robertharris4661 3 месяца назад

    Love your videos. Got my Primeark Freedoms in tubs thanks to you. I also got some Carolina Rasberries and Blueberries to see if this works for them. I do have a question off topic somewhat. The weephole for the blackberries is draining well. However, the raspberries and blueberries are not. Is it necessary to have the weephole line up with the hollow end of the corrugated pipe? When I fill the tube with water, they dont drain well. I push a dowel in the weephole and there's resistance like I am hitting fabric, soil or the pipe. But in the blackberries, I can push a dowel all the way in so it's clear that is lined up. I dont wan to to have to take everything out to line things up if unneccesary but I will if need be. Thanks and sorry for the long question

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  3 месяца назад +1

      You do not have to put the pipe on the same side as the hole. In fact, I’ve seen people demonstrate that is better to put the pipe in the hole on opposite sides of the tub.
      I don’t know if you could be plugging up the hole with the landscape cloth or not. Water permeates it pretty well. I think it would seep through. Maybe not right away but perhaps in an hour or two. I don’t really know. You just have to watch it.

    You said something about a pressure reducer. Can you elaborate a little on that? I’m thinking about using you idea to use 1/2 in tubing from tub to tub. Also what do you call the little sprinklers that plug into the tubing? I’ve learned a lot watching you videos.

      Drip depot has everything you need for irrigation at very reasonable price. They answer any questions you have quickly and I detail. I use them and I have been very pleased.

    • @Not_So_Weird_in_Austin
      @Not_So_Weird_in_Austin 3 месяца назад

      You need a pressure reducer to get pressure under 25 PSI otherwise your hose pressure will blow out your emitters. Also add an inline filter, optional is a chlorine filter. I have Ewing Irrigation nearby and use box stores and Amazon. Be careful of cheap Chinese fittings which may not have UV protection. I now buy Rainbird for fittings.

      @@Not_So_Weird_in_Austin Thank you kind sir for the advise. Im on well water so the chlorine is not an issue. It seems my viewers have given you a lot of great advice.
      Yes, you need a pressure reducer so the fittings don’t get blown out or leak. And yes, a lot of this can be found at Lowe’s or Home Depot too.
      If not, or if you would rather buy at Amazon, I have links below the video for all that stuff.

      I have a lot of dead canes on mine too, but that’s normal.
      These are the canes that produced in the spring and are now dead and or dying. They need to be pruned out, but I’m just not gonna get out there right now with this heat and prune them out. Once they are pruned out, the plants will look amazing I’m sure.
