- This is a short aerial view of the town of Grimes. It begins looking straight down on the old Nicholas V. Jordan home site. There is so much family history passing by down there. The Nicholas Jordan home. Roy England's home (gone now). Oscar Stewart's home (gone now). The Bill Jordan home place (burned down in the 1980's). Aunt Joelene's lot. Florine Dunning's home. The location in the alley where Billy Gash was killed in 1924. The place where Aunt Bonnie Barker was born. The Al Rathburn Barber shop. The Green Tree saloon. It was originally the Grimes Meat Market at the turn of the last century. The old Cook grocery store (gone now). Pete Mawson's Blacksmith shop (gone now). The site of the old Colusa County Bank building (gone now). The Grimm gas station and the old Chinese laundry location. Long's grocery store. Bill Jordan's Auto repair shop. And in the distance, the Grand Island Elementary school. All of those places are significant in the Jordan Gash family history.
The Gash and Jordan family history in Grimes goes all the way back to pre-1900 when Nicholas and Pete Jordan moved to Grimes. The old Jordan home was built in about 1909. He paid for the entire quarter block on Poundstone Street with Gold coin. That large river is the Sacramento River.
