Very nice bike Dennis. Here’s a little info on your bike. You are correct, it is bike #7,408 off the line. To us collectors, your bike is known as a “silver tag”…..meaning it came from Honda with a silver adhesive tag on the steering neck. Your bike is technically known as a K0 (K Zero). It was the very first model of CT70 built. Only the first 15,500 of 185,000 K0’s built had the “silver tag”, the rest had a black tag. Honda never designated these bikes with a model year until 1976. Most would consider your bike a 1969. We know that Honda released the CT70 in the USA on June 26, 1969. The silver tag bikes were built between 06/69 and 08/69. Starting in Sept of 1969, Honda switched to a black identification tag that included the bikes build date and VIN. The silver tags did not have this info. The K0 line came in three colors: Candy Red, Candy Gold and Sapphire Blue. From your VIN, yes, your bike was originally Candy Red. The K0 model was produced from 06/69 thru 08/71. The silver tag bikes are highly sought after, when in original condition. As production progressed, Honda made changes to parts and the silver tags have about 20 different parts that are not quite the same as the majority of the K0 line.
