Thank you for your tutorial I enjoyed it. Can I ask I am making this for my grandsons birthday I used fondant with tylos and green colour I kneaded it with shortening but I don’t understand why the heads of the turtles keeps getting cracks in it I knead it well to warm up and make the fondant pliable I’m a newbie so I’m stuck I don’t understand why I can’t seem to get an answer to my question. Can you help please. I should mention I’m in Australia and it is hot here.Thank in advance
Adding tylos will make your fondant set up but it isn’t as good as sugar paste. However, it sounds like you may have added too much of the powder. A little goes a long way and the more you knead it, the more activated the tylos becomes. I suspect that is what happened. You can try using less next time (you can always add more), and if you rub in some vegetable shortening, that will add some moisture back and help it crack less. You can also try to patch the cracks with just fondant if they really are ugly. But that in itself is an art to make it all smooth. Regardless, I am sure your grandson loved his cake, and I am really happy you were willing to try this. The more you do it, the more of the feel for it you get. Don’t give up!
