  • Looking for a GPS tracker for your Onewheel, escooter, or ebike? We tested the Apple Airtag and the Invoxia tracker and share our findings. We use the Invoxia Cellular GPS tracker to see if this GPS tracker will work for the Onewheel and our other PEVs.
    We discuss why the Apple Airtag doesn't work well for stolen Onewheel because the Apple Airtag is not a theft recovery device. The Invoxia GPS tracker is designed for theft recovery.

    i'm using the Invoxia "Pet tracker" or "bicycle tracker", which are identical, but way smaller than the one you are using and it's waterproof!
    It's easier to hide since it's dimensions.
    I have it permanently plugged in via USB (I assured the connection is waterproof), so no need to recharge now and then.
    Here in Europe it comes with a 3 year subscription included. After those 3 years I have to pay €9,99/year.
    And for the record, it is not a cellular GPS tracker, but a tracker that uses the low energy Sigfox network.

      It's unique shape and size being thin and long might be perfect for some Ebike models, but it could also be a dealbreaker for hidden effectiveness for some brands and models. It's unique shape might fit inside a seat post in some models, but it's only loosely being hidden in a case like that. The problem is this: Any good Ebike thief knows, they need to look for such hidden devices. I personally feel it's stupid in the case of an Ebike owner to put GPS warning labels on Ebikes, following the home security tradition, where people put the warning up front on there lawns or front windows, etc, that's fine thinking for a home, it's wrongheaded in my opinion to apply that logic to an item like a car or Ebike. The smarter idea , is to remain stealthy and use a first level of defense with a simple motion alarm but if it does not, stop the theft from occurring, the than the thief thinks they have nothing to worry about by destroying or removing the alarm, when in fact the real security is still in place.

    • @mathematicalistic
      @mathematicalistic Год назад

      @@flolou8496 The Invoxia tracker I'm using is much smaller compared to the one in the video and thus easier to hide.
      I also added an Airtag on my Ebike. In the assumption that if my Ebike was stolen the Airtag can (after a while) be detected by the potential thieves, making them think they have found the "would be tracker device" ... and after dismantling thinking that the job is done and there's no need for further action ... It is hidden in a uncommon hiding place and I removed its speaker to make it even harder for them to find the Airtag ;-)
      The Invoxia tracker can not be detected with a device and would still work up to 3 months without even turning on the bike for one instant.

    • @flolou8496
      @flolou8496 Год назад

      Wow, thank you for the great response, but can you further expand on what you mean by the ''Invoxia tracker can not be detected with a device? '' (you mean like what used to commonly be called in the spy gadget Popular Mechanics genre a ''bug sweeper'' ? )

  • @itsDefying
    @itsDefying 2 года назад +7

    AirTag is really not meant for anti-theft at all. The built in anti-stalking features make it nearly useless for it. It'll emit a sound when moved if away from your phone for a while, if the thief has an iPhone they'll get an alert that an AirTag has been following them after a few days. Apple just released an Android app to check for rogue AirTags too. I use one myself on my Ninebot MAX, but definitely considering a GPS tracker like this one instead. I just wish there was a compartment I could tuck it in. I have my AirTag in my handlebars but it weakens the signal strength slightly.
    Edit: just realized you covered this. I should watch the video before commenting.

  • @mechwar31

    What I have seen some people doing to hide their air tags, tiles, or various GPS-based devices is actually dremeling out the bottom of one of the foot pads so they can hide their device in between the foot pad and controller or battery box. With a GPS module you would just need to have a charging cable sticking out the footpad. Even if someone is familiar with the Onewheel, there are so many different kinds of mods out there that Even seeing a power plug sticking out of a weird location is not all together unusual. Like "oh someone did VNR, but with a USB cable. Weird."

  • @russellzauner

    If you clean the area thoroughly you should be able to pack the device in there with some Sugru and it will cure so it locks itself in, especially if there's a protrusion the rubber can encase and harden around. When you need to change the battery it will just peel out of the chassis cleanly and another couple bucks worth of Sugru seals it back in there.
    On the downside, it needs to cure at least overnight (48 hours is best to get full outgassing and hardness) so you'll have to wait before riding.
    On the upside the Sugru is basically quick cure rubber so if it is molded around gaps in the device it will also waterproof it.
    If it was me, I'd also add wireless charging using a 5 buck USB wireless charging coil (basically a foil sticker like in your library books back when we had libraries and books) so I wouldn't have to remove it until something broke.

    I took my Invoxia on it's first test ride, where I stopped at a Burger King and ate lunch, and then stopped at a Walmart to buy groceries. And I had the update frequency set to High.

So we're at this one dive bar that I've always raved about to those not in the know and the door guy is asking tons of questions about his One Wheel. He leaves it with the door guy at the front only to find out upon leaving that it was gone. GPS tracker pinged it close by, so the police were called. I love your videos, but this one… Toward the end, I was like, “Oh, this is a spoof. He’s kidding…” but then you never came clean. I don’t think a single one of your location ideas are discrete or hidden at all.

  • @techgeek2994

    bro best idea is to get xt60 to usb connector and then to get xt 60 splitter cable and then connect this directly to controller and the battery and hide it deep inside frame. you never need to get it out to charge because it will get charged all the time from the battery . battery cable needs to be long enough like 60cm so it can all be connected properly. i will make a video about this .

      If you put it inside your frame, completely surrounded by metal, it won't get a signal.

    Invoxia is really bad guys! I bought it a month ago and I only have problems. It does not update the location, and sometimes it is completely dead! The company does not ask for my emails. Really bad choice!

    why can't these ebike manufacturers just talk with invoxia and manufacture their bikes with that device already integrated . Quite silly they can't think about this. Like they really want the bikes to be stolen so people keep buying.

    That thing is oooo much bigger & so much more expensive than an AirTag … and sooooo much lower battery life. Just deactivate the AirTag speaker. You can hide 2-3 AirTags, and it’ll still be cheaper and you’ll exchange fewer batteries in total.

    Boy, this thing swcks. I've taken some test drives of this set into hyper update mode and it's abysmal. This does not use the cellular network, but rather, a homebrew crypto network called Lowrah or Lofi The coverage of the Lowrah is non-existent. At best if your lucky and your motorcycle doesn't end up in a chop shop or someones back yard anywhere in the vastness of the countryside, it will narrow down which big city your motorcycle is in, but that's about it. Forget narrowing it down to actual GPS coordinates on a map. Maybe you pick up one when whoever is driving it passes some random network point, but by then your motorcycle is long gone down the road.

    Ive got 3 of these Invoxia GPS. One still works, two are only 6 months old and failing. Ive gone back and forth with "customer service" going on 5 weeks now via email. Clearly the battery is failing/defective and they STILL have me jumping thru hoops with troubleshooting this POS. Dont but this junk. Customer service is a joke.

    This is an unbelievably bias video and in no way is a valid comparison between two products. A couple of seconds spent on the negative aspects of the Apple product and the rest of the video spent praising this wonderful tracking system which is actually a load of garbage. You can’t attach it, it’s too big, you can’t hide it, you can’t charge it, and it’s not waterproof. Oh, and by the way you very quickly glossed over the subscription charges. Was a financial incentive behind this blatant advertisement?

  • @mizoalmasri3022

    Well airtag are way more unique... First of all airtags don't need cellular subscription or simcard.. which is the major advantage. Otherwise gps trackers with cellular existed for ages... No devices are like airtags.. if some one can modify the airtags so they don't alert the tracked bike, and it could have better acuracy.. it is unbeatable

    in my experience the invoxia isn't reliable. Battery life grossly overrated and it doesn't track well when hidden. For an ebike a hard wired 4G LTE tracker like TK419 hidden in frame is FAR superior.
