I just found this! Loved the interview, hearing her creative process. Many ideas I have wondered about have answered my questions about Nora's designs. The Mirabilia Minions Retreat in San Antonio, May 2018 was a dream come true for me. For any stitchers who are fortunate enough to go to one of her retreats I would give a caveat. There is a clique of stitchers that go to these retreats, similar to the cheerleaders in Junior High School or Senior High School. If you are not part of their "clique" you will be excluded. Nora Corbett is VERY CONGENIAL. She is so generous with one to one time with each person who approaches her wanting some conversation, wanting to have a photo taken with her. She will sign your patterns. She had beautiful, one of a kind artwork for auction. It was wonderful to meet her & to be there.
so this is the lady behind those beautiful MIRABILIA cs designs, and she is beautiful herself, i have finished some of her designs and really gave me headaches to complete.
OH MY GAWD!!!!! Claire this was amazing!!!!!! It's so cool to hear her talk about what she thinks about all the conversions and how she feels about them and her art and that she doesn't really stitch. The whole thing was awesome. You are a natural at interviewing. I don't think I would have had the guts to ask. Thanks so much. This was really fascinating.
Yes I found that so interesting, I really wanted to know what she thought about our conversions and it's really beautiful to hear that she sees it as a partnership, I think that's a very kind and generous perspective and frankly it sums her up. It was a real privilege to meet her and then when I had the opportunity to share this conversation with flosstube I was really overwhelmed. I'm glad you found it interesting because I sure did! Thanks for watching and commenting. I love your videos!! And your goats!! Happy stitching :)))
Claire! You are a NATURAL my dear!!! The Barbara Walters of Flosstube!!! This was such a great interview!!! So engaging and informative. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I loved every second of it.
Claire you were fabulous interviewing Nora Corbett! Thank you both for this interview. I love Nora's designs, the ladies in their gowns, the fairies & mermaids. So proud of you Claire!!! love Annette
Annette Navarro thank you Annette!! I was a little giddy with excitement you might be able to tell - such a thrill to have this opportunity to talk to such a talented designer - but she was also just a really lovely person! X
Thread Garden oh Jan I was so glad you were there!! Honestly meeting you was as thrilling as meeting Nora! Thank you so much for filming it and managing the crowd!! It was a special moment during a weekend of special moments xxx
You are such a natural! I would have been stumbling over my words or making a fool of myself with someone like that. I love Nora Corbett even more. She seems to really love her work. Great job!
Nora was just so easy going and a breeze to talk to that she really made the interview. So genuine and kind, and yes she seems to appreciate the position she has which is beautiful to see as well.
What an amazing opportunity to meet and have a chat with Nora. Thanks for sharing your interview with her. I think you'll be hard pressed to find another retreat to top this one. 👏🏼
Claire, I don't want you to stop stitching and stop doing your Flosstube vlog s but, you were a professional interviewing Ms Miriabilia. Such great questions and she responded to you so openly. Wow, such a thrill for you ANS ALL of us out here in Flosstube Land. I totally wish I could have been at this Retreat. I'm so jealous. Can you show a pic of the exclusive design released to you guys? Can hardly wait! Thank you again Claire for this awesome glimpse into Nora's artistry.
That was SOOOO Cool! Thank you very much for sharing such a special time with all of us. What a wonderful Lady Ms. C is. So gracious and sweet to sit down with you, for us. Love this interview! !
I am so glad you were able to record this interview. You did such a great job and I really enjoyed getting a little insight into her process. I found it so interesting when she explained why she herself doesn't stitch much. I love that she talks with her hands.
Claire you did such a great job. You were so professional ~ not interrupting her and allowing her to keep talking. By doing that we heard a lot more of the real Nora and her motivations and personality than we would have if you had interjected with other questions. Seriously good interview. Well Done !!!!!!!
Thank you Marie! What a lovely compliment - she was so easy to interview, she keep it moving along and just kept giving me more to work with. Thats what shes like, a very generous and genuine person.
Aww thanks! She made that interview so easy for me, she lead the conversation beautifully to where I hoped it would go. No hard hitting journalist here! She gave it to me on a platter!
It was an awesome opportunity to meet her and then to get this chance to share a conversation with flosstube was amazing. Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Yes she was so natural and easy going, such a pleasure to talk to. She made time for everyone and I was very grateful to have this opportunity to share a bit of that with the flosstube community. Thank you for commenting and for your kind words :)
Thanks so much Claire, the interview was great. I often wondered how designers felt about people changing the colors, etc. What a wonderful perspective she has of the design once it's released: a partnership. Lovely point of view.
Very interesting to hear her take on doing her patterns and what they mean to her. We buy patterns but we don't think what meaning they may have to the designer and think of patterns as a way for them to make money. So it's interesting to hear not only money makers for them but also have great meaning for the designers very interesting.
I get the feeling Nora isn't motivated by money at all - in fact when I was talking to her at another time she said that she loved coming to the retreat to connect with stitchers and it probably was good business but that didn't really occur to her later. She is very much an artist and seems motivated by that instinct. I think her mother Marilyn was much more business minded and Nora says she hears her voice in her head giving her business guidance. She was really lovely and genuine, she spoke to everyone the way she spoke in the interview, open and honest and very charming :)
Oh I didn't mean she just wanted money when I wrote that I was just thinking we see designers as just sellers and they truly love designing. I hope I explained that right. She seemed like a very very sweet person.
AMAZING!! Nora seems such a lovely, wonderful lady. This book you mentioned with out of print patterns sounds so intriguing.....do you know any more about that? Thanks for sharing this interview. Hugs Dee xxx 🐱💕
OMG I am a beginner cross-stitcher and I am so attracted to Nora's Mirabilia patterns. I am wondering if complete kits are still available and if so, where can I get them? In particular I would love "Summer Queen", "Sabrina", "Roses of Provence" and "Victoria." If the kits are not available, which linen size would you recommend for portrait quality finish? Thanks so much!
Hi! Mirabilia are beautiful to stitch and great for beginners too I think. The challenge begins at beading but you’ve got lots of regular cross stitching to do first. Mirabilias aren’t generally sold as kits but it is easy to buy all the supplies in one go from many online retailers. Mirabilia do release the bear packs so you can buy those in one go. Places like 123stitch.com sell the chart, beads, threads and recommended fabric. You just select your chart and you can then choose to add all the extras as well. The fabric will be the right size that way. You can always change the fabric colour if you like using the thread count and fabric size they suggest. Each mirabilia is a different size so it depends on which one you choose. I’d definitely use a linen or evenweave in either 28 or 32 count (they are equivalent to 14 or 16 count aida so a breeze to stitch on). Let me know how you go or if you have any other questions :)
@@PyrexStitches Thank you so much! I actually ordered "Florentina" pattern with embellishments, and the full kit of "Spring Pea." I noticed a few other FlossTubers using 32 count Lugana or jobalen. I think my goal here is to not have a really bold "cross-stitchy" look. I would love more of a portrait quality.

She was super doper nice wasn't she?!!??! We missed you in our group video though! Hope the trip home was ok. xxx
I know! I was driving home thinking of all the bits I was missing :( We will have to find another opportunity to catch up for more fun.
Yes! That is a must!!
Great job, ladies! Janet
Very interesting to hear her take on doing her patterns and what they mean to her. We buy patterns but we don't think what meaning they may have to the designer and think of patterns as a way for them to make money. So it's interesting to hear not only money makers for them but also have great meaning for the designers very interesting.
