Navy Veteran here, to anybody who is planning to enlist I want to let you know. Do not give up, I joined the military straight out of high school at 18, not once did I regret my decision. I'll tell you a little secret though, if you're worried about basic training... Don't be. Boot camp is the easiest phase in anybody's military career. Your told what to do and when to sleep, how hard is that? Yes, it'll be tough, but it will be worth it.

Thank you for your service comrade. I am an Army and Air Force veteran myself, also enlisted straight out of high school. Been in nearly 10 years now, and back in the Army now, enlisting back in as a drill sergeant. I can vouch for what you're saying: Basic, at the time, seemed incredibly tough, but once you realize it's just a mind game, it is a piece of cake. As stated, you do what you're told, be where you're supposed to be, and life is gravy. No matter what you WILL mess up, but it's all about over coming that mess up. Even if you're right you're still wrong. Always remember why you wanted to serve and keep reminding yourself of that.
Basic training will push you to your max, and teach you to keep pushing even beyond that. Listen to your NCO's/Drill Sergeants and you will do just fine :) Though it may seem they are yelling just to yell at you, there honestly is a reason they are doing it, and it isn't just to yell in your face, but rather to teach you. To push you to your stress point and break through it. To teach you to work under pressure and know that you can over come any obstacle that is put in your way. But just like with anything else, they can show you the water, but you have to drink it.

I will defend the constitution from all enemies both foreign and domestic. U.S. Army Infantry Mortar man. If you plan on serving the military no matter what branch, be ready to selflessly give your life for your fellow soldiers, citizens, and family. The military, no matter what branch, is an honor so high nothing else can top it. The brotherhood that comes with it is irreplaceable

"i fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant" -Admiral Yamamoto
perhaps the jihadists should take que from history. once the giant known as americas military awakens.......it is hard to put it back to sleep, it seeks vengence, retribution. and last but not least.....it seeks a lasting peace and will bleed out for it. only then once peace is achieved will the giant go back to sleep, hoping it is never needed again.
    so isis......your turn!!

Having viewed a number of military enlistment promos like this, there is an obvious approach which entails two methods. (1) That basic is tough, but not that bad, and (2) appeals to the emotion which block critical thinking
    _____
First, basic can be hideous, especially if for some reason you are secretly tagged to get the treatment. It can arise for any number of petty reasons. Not athletic enough, slow learner, getting injured through no fault of your own, a perceived lack of "manliness", minor protest at some petty disciplinary act. These can all draw hell on you.
    ____
The typical abuse consists of direct physical attacks, or the drill soliciting others in your platoon to do it. Sometimes the victim will be ordered inside the barracks while the rest of his unit gets smoked with excessive PT. The drill then tells them the victim is responsible. The very possible result is a mob-beating. You can also be given excessive KP and other duties which not only tires you out, but you miss classes in the process.
    ____
The bottom line on basic is that you soon realize you're a slave to total assholes who have no respect for the ranks. They consider themselves "tough" in picking on adolescents. They take up loud, threatening postures that in the civilian world would get their asses kicked. But they know they have the whole system backing them up.
    ____
As for the video here, it's a total appeal to the emotions. If you think 9-11 was committed by Saudi terrorists connected to Al Qaida, then you haven't done much research. I find it ridiculous to believe that while luggage, passengers and entire planes distintegrated without a trace, they found Mohammed Atta's passport a few blocks away. World Trade Tower 7 went straight down like the other two without having been hit by a plane. An employee of the company hired by NIST to study the collapse of the Twin Towers later disclosed that the tests were fudged. Bush was warned repeatedly before 9-11 and did nothing. Then wailed and protested against a full investigation. And we most certainly did not get anything close to full and honest. Bush and Cheney then used the falsehoods of 9-11 along with the falsehoods of Iraq's so-called strategic weapons build-up to wage an unjustified war.
    ____
Who made out from the war? Obviously, military contractors. The old military-industrial complex Eisenhower warned us about. The same pattern played out in the lead-up to the Vietnam War.
    ____
So in looking at this video, I feel disgusted. It's a call to young men to put their lives on the line for a bankrupt system. One which serves feckless politicians and war profiteers.
