This is a small documentary we created about the life and work of our fellow citizen Takis Proestakis.

Thank you all for your kind words and supporting the magnificent Takis and his work.
Our intention for this video was to inform the Greek public and especially our fellow citizens about the life of takis and what we can do to support the abused and stray animals of our area. We are very proud of Takis and will continue to support his efforts.
He is a very unique person and a great inspiration for many many people. Since many of you are interested about this video we ordered a translation in English and now its available. Click on the cc button next to settings to view English subtitles.
It is great to see Takis interview in Greek. He has fans around the world so his RUclips channel os always in English except when he is interacting with locals in Crete during dog rescues. Please spay and meuter your dogs in Greece and keep them inside like family member, not chained and alone!

Takis said in this Greek interview that his shelter should be an example for the whole municipality and community of Ierapetra. The Greeks should be proud of their son, Takis. Mercy given mercy received.
I am very proud of him but also so ashamed about my fellow citizens. Only 5 dogs got adopted from inside Greece and over 600 from all over the world. So sad.
@@Andy_Spy A dog needs at least 50 euros/month for food, medical services etc Do you really think the average Greek who gets pays 550-600 euros can afford it ? I love dogs, I also want to adopt one as soon as I get a house for my own..don't get me wrong! But Greeks having this economical crisis, with red loans for houses that needed back at 2000 can't really have to pay a dog's life. If you don't believe me come and take a look at Athens and see where most people live and with how much money for rent...

Just an example, at my work there are over 10 people who order EVERY DAY a coffee for 2 Euros despite the fact that we have 4 different coffee types at work for FREE. And a last one. If people in Greece can afford to have dogs and letting them having babies or letting them go after a few months or years, then they have enough money to keep them or adopt new ones. Everything you said is an excuse, sorry for saying that but that's typical greek. @@Andy_Spy Well, i do not order, i make my own coffee with my own savings just make ends meat. There is always an excuse for other people to judge the Greek especially from countries like Germany, Belgium etc. I have lived their too and I know it isn't the same at all! I know people who can't afford a car, not even the bus tickets...adopting a dog whould be another whole level of economical difficulty to them. Takis is a living legend and inspiration to so many all around the World, so much more worthy of the Nobel Prize than all the crooked Politicians that get it and don't do a damn thing except make millions for sitting on their ass in luxury. The World is such a corrupt place at the moment, it's people like Takis that help me believe things can get better!!!.

Takis, being a public personnality, it's quite normal and wise, he keeps his native name secret to preserve his private life, using a nick name for the public one.

Άνθρωπος. Απλά τον σέβομαι, πρέπει να είδε πολλά από ανθρώπους σε εισαγωγικά και κατέληξε να βοηθά πλάσματα αθώα. Με συγκινεί δεν έχω να γράψω κάτι μιλάει το έργο του.
Taki tells his story to the Greek reporter, saying that it all happened by Destiny it was God's will for him to follow this path. All proceeds go to the animals how he spent thousands of Euros to have animal sterilized in his community and Beyond. He makes a point to say he'd rather be with 400 animals and work very hard, than be confined with 10 people that will sell him out , like his friends have done in the past. When he moved in the new home he didn't have any dogs in his room and felt Lonely and guilty.
Thanks for the translation what a wonderful man humanity need more like him I wish I could get a chance to dedicate my whole life helping him with these amazing souls
Takis said a few interesting things in this interview. First of all, 600 dogs are already adopted worldwide. If somebody takes the decision to adopt a dog he/she has to make a very long trip to the island and the distance from the airport is quite far away to the shelter. Therefore somebody who's adopting a dog has to make a big effort and has a big heart. Usually the dog selects his human family and not the other way around. Moreover, Takis admits he has no private life. He is also not able to sleep at all during the night. The animals are very active in the night, they could fight untill death and he has to stay awake to intervene if necessary. He only sleeps during siesta time when it's hot during the day and the animals rest aswell. The interviewer is very proud of Takis.

I know isn't it amazing! It always astonishes me how he knows every animal's name - and they answer to it too! He is a remarkable, very impressive man and a leading light in animal rescue around the globe.
That's how you know he's legit. He is beyond amazing. I wish we all could do what he does. The world would actually be a better place.
@@1jazzyphae Very true, however this man is an incredibly rare diamond. Unique, actually, I don't believe there's another animal rescue shelter like 'Takis Shelter' in the whole world, where hundreds of animals live with such freedom and autonomy. It is a shining beacon proving what is possible, if one human wills it. I agree, Takis is beyond amazing.

I can help I am a Greek.He explained how he built the Takis Shelter. He said that he was doing night shifts in bars etc and he could not form like proper relatiknships because people felt distant to him so he wanted to connect more with animals and provide for them.He was selling his property to do that because he could not afford it financially(obviously) and he also received criticism and he was oblidged to pay a visit to a psychologist for "his behavior".Of course the psychologist said that he was completely OK just very emotional and caring for animals.By the time he was like relinquishing his ambition for animals Daily Mail contacted him for an interview and he was even in a TheDodo video (youtube channel)and thus he started having funds from all over the world 💗💗💗💗

@@helgathegreat I love all animals, even the ones that are not considered cute and cuddly. Mother Nature knows best and all animals have their role on our planet. However cats are my favourite. All cats big and small, wild and domestic, are magnificent, mysterious creatures that always keep us wondering what they are thinking!

About time the King of Greece got busy and awarded this extraordinary man a medal
not only for the wonderful work he does, but for being an exemplary Greek Citizen - a man
among many ! He is also responsible for educating people - demonstrating how animals
should be cared for, and what needs to be done by local Councils and Municipalities to bring
in laws to protect them, and control the breeding of unwanted cats and dogs.
No one in Greece has done more than Takis, he is a real innovator there for animal welfare
an issue that seems to be sadly lacking in his own country !🇬🇧

I have NEVER watched a All the way through of a film in another language that I don’t understand but I watched this all the way through. Love his passion towards his work, his animals but also to getting attitudes changed in Greece.

Every time he stops his car to pick up an injured animal off the street, he tells the reporter others look at him like he's from outer space. Now that he has not failed on his mission , the cretans, tell him he's Running a business. He he says He doesn't have to apologize to anyone and invites anyone to run the same Type of Business And he will help them.
And to add to that he said that he doesn't even have shoes to wear because he has no time to buy new ones. So many great highlights in this interview but sad they didn't included subtitles for our foreign friends

Yes! I notice some Greek words ! French has latin and greek roots. Takis excellent teacher! English language, I don't get well with American accent not very pleasant, with his charming sunny greek accent is so much attractive! By the way I just noticed today the word "exo" in the dictionnary so it means out! As I thought! TAKIS Orders to the mischievous Bozzo and Coca,😸 naughty boys with the poor Granpa! To be a night club owner or a shelter owner is a little similar! In the both cases,😸🤩 Takis still gives joy and satisfaction ! In his night club, people enjoying dancing and in his shelter enjoying adopting! And it's never too late, to change the path of our life and destiny, as Takis did, towards an other direction, the right one, which satisfy our soul, our heart and our pride definitely! @@ariwnzirakis9272 Couldn't agree more. I think people who live there and do things like let a whole family of pups be killed by cars or dogs in a chain for 15 years need education now.

It is my dream to travel there and visit Taki, shelter. It will probably never happen as I live in US, but it would be so amazing. Such a unique, beautiful sanctuary.

Found this because I’ve watched Takis daily for years now. Found him watching the Dodo on YT. The first rescue I ever watched was about Black. He was abandoned on the beach shore. Tide coming in. He was paralyzed and left to die. Takis saved him! He had a large cancer on his face. His story & will to live was absolutely amazing! A true superhero!🐕🦺Black was the most incredible dog! The love & compassion that Takis has should be taught across the world! He is the man with a golden heart💛Tysm for this interview. May this reach millions! Stellar days to ALL! I totally agree with Mike Marino’s post that Takis has found his purpose and he is so incredibly faithful to that purpose, that in a way, came through the meaning of his name. However, God has a plan for EVERYONE on the planet and if we each knew our purpose and did that, the world would be a much better place ridding ourselves if greed and envy.
The following is what God says to you from the book of Jeremiah about his plan for you and ALSO, how you go about finding the plan for your own life (regardless of your age).
Jeremiah 29:11-14
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord.

Happy to see media and in this case especially Greek media pay attention to the horrors that domestic animals are exposed to by acknowledging people like Takis who work tirelessly to give these animals a second chance to a worthy life. Something that the society has denied all of them just for being born as nonhuman animals. Humans and humanity must end the war on all sentient induviduals that nonhuman animals are. We are all earthlings and should have the one right - the right to our own life. Abolish all use. All use - of 'the other' human as well as nonhuman - is abuse
