He pointed to my📱that I put on w/my Bluetooth speaker, with 3 fingers up to a Credence, song. I said, you saw them 3x? He said, yes. He started to sing, "DOWN ON THE BAYOU", when it came on. I was 😲. He holds his cane, standing up wiggling, his way of🕺and I do it, too. We have fun. 🤣 He used to play the drums, he'll get his good arm, playing the air drums. So cool! And he loves Bob Seger, especially the song, "TURN THE PAGE" Music is really wonderful for the elderly, too.

Right, that's their jam number, and it's a great one. I love John's voice/screaming/harmonica and shredding. It's such a drivin' blues. You'll only get that kind of inspiration when your band is tight.
I think CCR is arguably the best American band ever. Certainly John Fogerty was especially gifted. They had a great rhythm section in Stu and Cos. Too bad Tom was jealous of his younger brother's talent. John was as talented as all of the Eagles put together. You can't fake that kind of talent. Creedence was true Americana. You can't go wrong.
Funny but this song always reminds me of Suzie Q which is another great Rockin CCR hit. CCR doesn't have a bad tune. John Fogarty wrote some amazing songs. CCR played this at Woodstock and it woke up the sleeping crowd (They went on about 2am, cause the "Dead", hogged the stage earlier. When they play this in concert you can't help but move !! Great reaction !!

The bass player on early CCR was John Fogertys brother , I forgot his name I think Don or Bob cant remember but they had a falling out and hence the early way too soon breakup of CCR. John wanted to have all control over the band and the songs the rest of the band including his brother disagreed and the band broke up. When the contract CCR had signed was no longer filled then John Fogerty lost all his rights to his music for many years, decades even. I don't think even when John's brother was sick and dying that they totally reconciled.
Harri, kudos for tolerating this tune for the first two minutes. Then the harmonica began and we could all see you had been reeled in, lol. Great overall reaction, too, sir. You divided the sections of the song perfectly, allowing us (and yourself!) to appreciate each part of the jam. Keep on Chooglin', mate!

"Keep On Chooglin'" was often used as CCR's final song in live concerts. The album version lasted close to 8 minutes, but in concert they sometimes extended it for more than 15 minutes. Love John's harmonica playing in this song.
I'm so happy that you mentioned the bass line. So many people don't. And before he started into that fast moving pattern that he then embroidered on right when you picked it out, that already was a jump up from the beginning where he was mostly just romping on the root note and occasionally throwing in an extra note. So it's this gradual powerful buildup that just drives it like an engine underneath. It's so hypnotic and mesmerizing. And you know they played really loud. Can you imagine standing there in the guitar is just howling. And I love those harps. You absolutely should check out some 10 years after stuff. They're British and many of their songs have incredible use of the harp.
Chooglin to me is trucking, having fun, moving forward, jamming, striving, not letting something get you down. I think it's just a generic term for persevering and enjoying the perseverance.
Harri...AWESOME... yet another one that I have been asking others to react to and once again you come through. This is a jam that brings back so many memories of parties when we would go nuts when someone played this song cause we knew it by heart and that we were gonna have a great time dancing to it. My Friend Harri you have to watch the concert they did in the 70s at the Royal Albert Hall, the audience loved this style of music at the end they are dancing like crazy in the isles, a girl in front row daning like bonkers, believe Harri this version doesnt put a patch on the RAH concert, Harri you have to check it out. The lady laughed at me for wanting harmonica lessons.🙄 Then she said we give guitar and piano lessons and she of course suggested them. I guess I’ll have to take harmonica lessons online. I think the lady might have laughed because the harmonica is an instrument that you just have to play and get a feel for. Just know that you have to have a harmonica that is in the same key as the song that you are accompanying. Good luck.

Before I got into heavy/progressive rock with the likes of Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, I had four lp’s from CCR and I always say Keep on Chooglin’ was my first introduction to a heavy style of rock. Still a classic, still love those four albums, especially Bayou Country.

side two of this album "bayou country" is one if the best r&r sides ever. it begins with a cover of little richard's "good golly miss molly." an excellent rendition. the rest of songs were all penned by john fogerty. "penthouse pauper" is the next song followed by their standard classic "proud mary." the album side ends with "keep on chooglin'" a 7 minute long opus which mixes wonderful harmonica work with a kick ass guitar solo. the song rocks and never stops. that's one of the best album sides in r&r history.
songs with long guitar solos were all the rage in the late 60s and early 70s. hendrix, cream and led zepplin and many others indulged. ccr had several songs that enlisted this style of play. their full version of "suzi q," ""effigy," "ramble tamble" and the full version "i heard it through the grapevine" are just a few more examples of ccr indulging in this style.

Harri, to me this is just another great Creedence Clearwater song but also it's one of those extended dance songs if you want to think about it that way. And I don't know this for a fact, but I've always thought that it was influenced by some older Blues as a lot of their stuff was. In particular I always think of this little Walter song that Koko Taylor made famous. I was lucky enough to see her around 1983 when I was young at a local club here in Lawrence Kansas very small venue and I was about 6 ft away. To be that close to somebody that great just blew me away. But somehow the feel of the song and the colloquial references and using people's actual names you know, it just seems to connect to me and regardless, I think you would really like this. My dad had us watching football when we were in elementary school because he was from Baltimore, and played golf with Johnny Unitas. Later on, he taught me all about baseball because he was a big fan of The Atlanta Braves. Unfortunately, he died 12/12/94, and never got to see "his" Braves win the World Series in '95. I'm keeping up the family tradition. Don't worry, I won't ask you to play it. I've been around here a long time. I left for Cardiac Rehab after open-heart surgery in Nov., 2021, and came back a couple months later. I won't ask you to play it. In fact, I don't know how long I'll even be around...
@Harri, one of my fav jams by CCR! They have so many though. There’s been a lot of great harmonica players over the years, just search and you will find. Make sure to get some in different keys so when you play along with a song it won’t sound out of tune and will give you more notes to hit with the song. Also, you can find chromatic harmonicas that have a little slide in it to hit the other notes. Get a harmonica mic and play it through an amp for extra dirty fun. My Grandpa loved the harmonica, played it on the farm on the back porch after working day, we’d sit on the back porch and eat fresh watermelon out of the garden and he would play his harmonica. Good times.

The version on Fogerty’s Long Road Home album is the best. My ears rang for week after he played this in concert in 2007-8. He played a far more rocking version than this.
Do you know which "key" your harmonica is made to play in? Have a good look at it, it is usually marked on the metal. You will need music in the same key, as in with the same natural notes, sharps and flats, the key of C has no sharps or flats, unless the songwriter puts in incidental ones. On a piano, the white keys are natural notes, the black ones are sharps or flats. To play a lot of music in different keys, you need a lot of harmonicas. Look up music online, learn about reading music, where the treble (high) notes are written, where are the bass (deep) notes, what the different note symbols, bars and rests etc mean for timing. Get sheet music for a song you know well and compare what is written with how the song goes. You should be able get instructions online, or a set of how to videos, among other techniques, you need to learn when to blow air through or suck air back. Practise will help with how not to run out of breath. Singers have to try expanding their lung capacity over time, and when to take unheard breaths to keep singing and manage not to faint away, and collapse. All the best.
I’m a year late to this party, but I’m curious if you learned how to play your harmonica? If you’re serious about it, you’ll have to buy a lot more harmonicas, because each one only plays in one key. Our guy, Captain John has a case with probably two dozen. One for each popular key, and some are bass harmonicas, big long bastards

The version on Fogerty’s Long Road Home album is the best. My ears rang for week after he played this in concert in 2007-8. He played a far more rocking version than this.

Do you know which "key" your harmonica is made to play in? Have a good look at it, it is usually marked on the metal. You will need music in the same key, as in with the same natural notes, sharps and flats, the key of C has no sharps or flats, unless the songwriter puts in incidental ones. On a piano, the white keys are natural notes, the black ones are sharps or flats. To play a lot of music in different keys, you need a lot of harmonicas. Look up music online, learn about reading music, where the treble (high) notes are written, where are the bass (deep) notes, what the different note symbols, bars and rests etc mean for timing. Get sheet music for a song you know well and compare what is written with how the song goes. You should be able get instructions online, or a set of how to videos, among other techniques, you need to learn when to blow air through or suck air back. Practise will help with how not to run out of breath. Singers have to try expanding their lung capacity over time, and when to take unheard breaths to keep singing and manage not to faint away, and collapse. All the best.

If you’re serious about it, you’ll have to buy a lot more harmonicas, because each one only plays in one key. Our guy, Captain John has a case with probably two dozen. One for each popular key, and some are bass harmonicas, big long bastards
