I've put 38K miles on a '15 SV Sedan that I bought from Hertz with 34K miles. It's been trouble free from the get-go. Better tires make these cars a LOT more fun to drive, and I do drive mine a lot! Don't listen to people who tell you 109 HP is not enough; I am old enough to remember small cars wheezing from 0-60 in over 20 seconds. This one takes about 9 1/2 to 10 seconds to make that run, and that's plenty fast for me. Gas mileage is definitely the car's strong point. I have averaged 34.4 MPG since buying the car, and have hit 40 MPG several times. Going from Kentucky to the Gulf Coast and back earlier this year, we averaged 37.6 with 4 aboard and a trunk full of luggage and souvenirs. This impressed me. I love working on the car - but I don't have to do much to it! Just routine maintenance, and that's cheap and easy. Oil and filter changes cost $15 or less, and that's using synthetic oil from our local farm store. I do wish the car was a little quieter, and had the new stereo the '18.5 and '19 models have. Backup camera would be nice too. But overall, I'm mighty happy with it and hope to get a lot more use from it!
As I'm sure you and my viewers know, I love these little cars. They aren't the fanciest, but they are simple and drive pretty well and are pretty honest cars. They are made to do one thing: Get people around cheaply, spaciously, and efficiently. And these Versas/Versa Notes do that amazingly well. I liked the value so much that we bought one lol
Yeah. Frankly I'm not a fan of all the software on cars today. Props to Nissan and Mitsubishi for making barebones cars today. I really hope they don't make all the software BS mandatory like they did with backup cameras.
They’re great rental cars. You can get in this thing and just go. As a manager of a rental car office, I have heard numerous complaints about how complicated a lot of the luxury models are to operate. This is a simple car. Get off the plane. Get your car. Go. No spending 20 minutes trying to figure out how to get everything adjusted. Perfect simple car.
Disney fan, that’s great. My only advice would be to only rent cars from major airports or in large cities. Smaller rural towns have much less of a selection and you may end up with a cheap car because it’s their last one, and getting a more expensive one within an hour may be impossible. It is in my area.

Congratulations! And I totally agree, in my own personal vehicles I like lower end, more practical cars. But for my rentals...well want ALL the bells and whistles. 😀
FYI, Enterprise (and likely other national car rental companies) always orders their cars with spare tires so if a renter gets a flat and needs assistance the tow operator contracted from Enterprise can come and install the spare as opposed to an inflator kit which if no use on a damaged tire would result in a costly tow. This is why most cars with an inflator kit still have a well for a spare tire, to accommodate fleet sales ordering a spare. The retail version of this Versa likely comes with an inflator kit.
Good review, thanks. I just dropped my daily driver at the body shop this morning, and Enterprise gave me one of these for the next few days. I was kinda lost on the steering wheel buttons (very strong sun here in Long Beach today) and finally got the car home ok after a short drive. Only thing I couldn't figure out was a lever on the left side of the steering column, which I assumed was some type of wheel-height adjustment, but I couldn't find any sign of life there. Otherwise, the rest of the interior controls seem to work decently, and the car should be OK for the brief time my DD is in the body shop. Ralph L. Seifer, Long Beach, California

No. But you can pick up an SV with around 40K on the ODO for about 9K. Hertz Car Sales. Be sure to dump it before 100K. Repeat if you want. Probably should upgrade those tires & unload the old ones on Craigslist.
Good idea. My last car was a manual Honda Civic and I loved it. It just sucks that so few people know how to drive a stick these days. It makes sharing your car difficult (road trips, spouses, etc.).

Also, the car is starting to get old quick, it just needs a redesign. @@100RentalCars How about a Nissan Sentra SV. A 2017 with less than 10k miles on it is for sale for around 10k. Do you think it's worth it? No accidents, just some scratches.
$10k seems like a pretty good deal. I ran a search on Kelly's Bluebook and it suggested a private sale price, on a Sentra with standard equipment and minor cosmetic damage, of around $12 to $14k. I'd definitely check this car out, and maybe take it to a mechanic, if you're serious. Seems like a pretty good deal.

I can't speak to price, but I do agree that Nissan needs to refresh most of their vehicles. And if I remember correctly, I think the Altima is getting a major redesign in 2019. I'm hoping to see it soon on the rental car lot so I can try it out. And I don't think you're being a fanboy. I think Ford has done an amazing job lately designing the interior of their vehicles. BMW's stuff is insanely good...but I can't afford that. Anyway, thanks for the great comment! ✌
I bought this generation of Versa when it came out new in 2012. It was my first brand-new car. The quality was terrible. Squeaks and rattle after the first 1,000 miles. Catalytic converter heat shield fell off twice by 36k miles due to faulty design. The paint on the A-pillars and around the tail lights started peeling. The CVT transmission always made weird noises and started slipping around 50k miles. I ditched the car at 56k miles and never looked back.
Oh no. That sounds terrible. I had similar issues with my first new car too. It was a Saturn Ion 3. Awesome car for the first three month...but after that things went down hill fast. Never again!
@@100RentalCars My experience with the Versa turned me off to Nissans. I won't even consider buying any new car without a 10y/100k mile powertrain warranty now thanks to that experience. I replaced the Versa with a Mirage, which was a much better quality car, surprisingly.
Great review as always. However I must say that the Versa looks and feels incredibly cheap. For about the same price you can buy a comparable vehicle with more safety features, a backup camera, and Bluetooth streaming with a quality stereo system. I would also not trust the long term reliability of this car, especially if it has the CVT transmission.
Thanks for the kind words. And I don't have a lot of experience with CVTs. Do they not last long? And in regards to buying a Versa, yeah, I agree. I'd probably got for a Toyota or Honda at this price point. You get a lot more bang for your buck with them.
@drew It is a documented fact that Nissan CVTs are unreliable. Google Nissan CVT recalls. Maybe you got lucky. Maybe Nissan fixed these problems. Why take a chance when you can just buy another car that doesn't have these problems?
@Tom VS I think the law means the emergency release in the trunk itself. I think he's talking about the remote release inside the car next to the driver's seat.
One more thing: On the top of the line I wish Nissan offered a power sunroof...hopeully down the line the suits t Nissan wise up on that, but I can only dream. (laugh)...Peace!

Thanks for the kind words. And I don't have a lot of experience with CVTs. Do they not last long? And in regards to buying a Versa, yeah, I agree. I'd probably got for a Toyota or Honda at this price point. You get a lot more bang for your buck with them.
Google Nissan CVT problems. I believe there were several recalls issued in the past for Nissan CVTs. Toyota and Honda CVTs are much more reliable.
crismusbonus Toyota and Honda’s are not reliable
crismusbonus ummmm. I have owned my 2017 Nissan Rogue with a CVT and it just hit the 230,000 mile marker and I have had no problem... That's a lie
@drew It is a documented fact that Nissan CVTs are unreliable. Google Nissan CVT recalls. Maybe you got lucky. Maybe Nissan fixed these problems. Why take a chance when you can just buy another car that doesn't have these problems?
Bluetooth is standard
To be clear, you can make calls on the standard Bluetooth in the Versa, but it won't stream music.
Classic DonDon Jizzy
The base model doesn’t have keyless entry and no interior trunk release
All of them I've seen and driven since '16 have the interior trunk release. It's a little pull tab next to the driver's seat.
@Tom VS I think the law means the emergency release in the trunk itself. I think he's talking about the remote release inside the car next to the driver's seat.
No Bluetooth but there’s a microphone?
for voice commands
Not that great of a car but your voice is so nice :)
ok, Bluetooth,,im old school,,,it has aux ,,so just plug aux cord from your phone to aux port and your good to go,,,,
for the same money get yourself a corolla with way better options
One more thing: On the top of the line I wish Nissan offered a power sunroof...hopeully down the line the suits t Nissan wise up on that, but I can only dream. (laugh)...Peace!
Well we can hope. Unfortunately the 2018 Maxima SV I had today did not...have a sunroom. ✌
Anybody noticed that forklift fail at 1:09?
Good eye! I don't think it was a fork lift though. It's been a while since I filmed this, but I think it was a lawn mower. What you see fall is the blades of the mower being lowered...I think.
its an industrial lawn mower and the blades folded down
Engine needs some TLC. 😧
So cheap and bare bones on the inside, but it’ll get you where you’ll need to go
Amen. Is it the height of luxury? No. But it's a well made vehicle at a decent price. You can't go wrong with that!
for a 2017 the interior is incredibly outdated
This car make me feel very unsafe when I drive 65mph on the high way.
Y B totally
I drive 80mph all the time on the road and I’m totally fine
This car is hot GARBAGE in snow.
Crappy CVT transmission
Rather have a Chevy spark which is cheaper and you get more atuff
Oceanic Flight True but this is technically cheaper
More things that can go wrong is one way of seeing it.
I don't like the interior. The dash looks as if it has an aftermarket interface stuck on it.
