My daughter has epilepsy and CP. She is two now and the thought that NeuroLink could one day help her is amazing. When Elon mentions epilepsy and the goal of stoping seizures it brought me to tears. I pray all the success of the NeuroLink project.

Just raw dogged the whole episode, no water , no sun light and no distractions in 2 days. Got emotioanl at the end, man Nolan is so motivated with this device that only allows him to do simple tasks, and it makes me feel bad when i remember all them times i dont want to put my shit together and do the things that i want to do. Elon's 5 step algorithm: 1. Question the requirements. 2. Aggressively delete what might not be necessary. 3. Try to optimize/simplify what's left. 4. Speed up the processes and then 5. automate. Sounds like this could be applied to our government in some interesting ways.
It could also be applied or the first to American thinking.. we often ask what we should believe an join in on false fundamentals... Like social security insurance welfare all sounds good but taken to its fundamentals your asking an inhuman system aka government to by force of law which is always ultimately enforced by violence or threat of death if you don't comply... To cover you when life goes awry.. which is ultimately again a fear response which is always wrong in social settings and easy to control. It's socialism which kills free and open markets.. you cannot have them both socialism violates the fundamental rules they don't work in the same system socialism kills freedom an capitalism. Reality is the perfect proof. Not that those people should be left to suffer alone.. what should happen.. what is morally right.. an what makes everyone feel better is cutting out the middlemen who profit an don't care bc their a business not a person... Would be to do what was done in the past . Families care for their elders... It is a respect an love... Everyone feels better... Welfare should be communal.. done from locals who care... I'm sure it made a least 1 of those 60+ people smile when they were having a bad day, so it's definitely not meaningless. (Hopefully) Lighthearted jokes, memes, and observations are expected on this platform. Unfortunately, the RUclips platform was not designed for long-form interactions. There isn't even a good way to go back and look at all of one's own comment/reply history. A Reddit or Discord type platform may be more suited for that type of dialogue.

I think this was the first time I heard Matthew MacDougall talk. Wow, this guy is pretty smart. Here is where Elon Musk's power is shown. He is smart enough to recognize smart people and has a way of collecting them into a team. Its impressive.
LEx is young...I like him...he has room to grow. But Sean Carroll is amazing at conversation and is a physicist. Donald Hoffman is amazing articulate. Josha Bach is insane smart and articulate. Sabine Hossenfelder is no nonsense. Ben Goertzel is crazy deep thinking. All with somewhat similar interest...but ask and theorize crazy good questions. Lex is young. I dont know what he specializes in...programming and AI? He seems to be a young Joe Rogan. I hope he succeeds and asks tough questions.
I swear, I’ll schedule a time to listen to this when I’m awake. Honestly, I use this to fall asleep, and it works amazingly! Lex’s voice, no background noise, and topics I don’t understand-thank you for making an 8-hour compilation!
8:29:50 Tearing up here man. It's the simple things in life we take for granted but to see it from this guy's point of view puts it into perspective. I also love the feel of paper, and the smell of it. Just wow. It's a breath of fresh air to hear such appreiation and gratitude. I hope eventually a cure is made so he can feel again, at least it will go to someone who will be grateful for it everyday. Talking about everyday, I guess that's what makes us numb to touch and other things, but I must think constantly that many people don't experience touch. To watch someone talk about this is like a sudden revelation to change my thought processes.

Yes, but needs to be more accurate, death is permanent loss of memory. Otherwise it is like a sleep, or general anesthesia. You get it back in those cases, just you are not saving new memories (dreams are saved sometimes, but not much out of those 8h)
@@jutjub22 does it even matter to us for how long the memory loss is happening , as once it is gone even the sense of time is lost (as sense of time is due to memory only) so getting it after 1 day or 1 year or never is exactly the same .
Lex, you and I are the same, I go at 1x because I want to feel like i'm there for the conversation and I want to hear the pauses in real time to see how thoughtful someone is being.
He always seems happy and more lighthearted when interviewed by Lex. He genuinely seems to enjoy it and I think respects Lex a lot, because, along with Tim Dodd, Lex seems the closest to being on Elon's intellectual level. Well, Jordan Peterson too, who went really deep with Elon recently, but I think Elon enjoys talking to Lex the most.

You can best see this on comment threads below history or political videos, where about 80% of commenta are hidden (observed by difference in stated and actual number of replies). Theres little chance even this comment gets through, as i discuss a forbidden topic, and i have just wasted minimutes writing this. Disheartening, this need to belittle, even here. If Elon got 1 hr or 8, the original comment is still correct, isn’t it? A format where he is given the time he needs by Lex patiently not interrupting, as seen on many other formats.
It is always nice to see Elon Musk in an environment that allows him to be completely transparent. I have watched many interviews but when he comes on your podcast I see Elon Musk the individual, and I am able to appreciate another side of Elon Musk- a more human nature. It is kind of like watching two friends having an intimate conversation in their backyard. I don't usually respond to these types of things but the fact that you said it somehow triggered me to respond and tell you that I agree. I'm not sure how often I read comments like this but watching videos at normal Pace seems like the thing to do. Seems like with even smartphones people just don't have enough time they are consuming so much they want to double the speed. I don't get it. Just like abbreviations and all these things I end up typing most of everything except LOL out. You can clearly tell that smartphones and social media have influence people to be less patient
@@MyWORDisntGospel That's simply cause time is relative when you were 10 1 year was 10percent of your life when you are 20 it's 5percent and so on, making it seem time is speeding up, it's just that you are more used to it.
The interview with Noland was actually way more interesting than I was expecting. Lots of good details about what Neuralink is like to actually use, plus his whole attitude and faith were really inspiring.

I am blown away on the detail of engineering knowledge that elon has across his companies. He understands alot of the nuance of problem solving. This is actually his gift.

Long time ago I introduced the computer to my grandfather, who passed away aged 95, several years ago. When I told him that you can communicate with the whole world instantly and you can get all the information you want instantly through it, he looked at it and asked: "Does it make your life easier or not?". I was very doubtful what to answer back then. It certainly can make life easier in many ways. However, it cannot make up for the purely human emotional experience. The speed of data and information exchange overall does not change that. Would it enhance your emotional experience as a human if you were able to say a 1000 words a second ?! I personally do not think so. I think actually it will get us further away from our human nature and just make life even more complicated.
I agree. I think waiting or working hard for something makes it much more valuable and beautiful. Eg; A big old oak tree. However there is definitely value in being able to restore functions to people and speed/clarity in communication might help unlock new unexplored territory in human psyche! Or render us bored more quickly.
As everything in this world, we can or not find value in something. This is my point of view related to the "life easier" and the emotional aspect even with the narrow view of the 1000 words. Everything in our lives is a result of learning, learning by the objective live you has lived or the things you choose to learn. Even though the things you choose to learn you can go from feeling miserable to a higher estate in your life. If you are curious and you search, you'll find, so if you can search fast enough and learn fast enough you can get to be, as human, in a very good state of mind and be really happy. But that it's just seeing things my way. I use to feel life was not long enough to learn and experience all I wanted, this can help me.
I've used a computer for more than 37 years in every creative way that I could. I can attest that anything I've done with it, and whatever joy I got out of that, does not and will never compare to a real and deep communication with another human being, or interacting with, and appreciating all the beauty of the real world.
As someone who is paralyzed, I hope deeply in my heart there is a solution to get much of the connection I lost to my body back with such a product, neurolink. Godspeed

I also love the feel of paper, and the smell of it. Just wow. It's a breath of fresh air to hear such appreiation and gratitude. I hope eventually a cure is made so he can feel again, at least it will go to someone who will be grateful for it everyday. Talking about everyday, I guess that's what makes us numb to touch and other things, but I must think constantly that many people don't experience touch. Its unwriten policy of the platform. The system is designed to be pleasant, not thought provoking. Any comment considered even slightly risky or offensive to anyone is removed or hidden with no warning to the author. You can best see this on comment threads below history or political videos, where about 80% of commenta are hidden (observed by difference in stated and actual number of replies). Theres little chance even this comment gets through, as i discuss a forbidden topic, and i have just wasted minimutes writing this. Consequently no one with brain and YT experience will invest any kind of serious thought into commenting here

Disheartening, this need to belittle, even here. If Elon got 1 hr or 8, the original comment is still correct, isn’t it? A format where he is given the time he needs by Lex patiently not interrupting, as seen on many other formats.
It is always nice to see Elon Musk in an environment that allows him to be completely transparent. I have watched many interviews but when he comes on your podcast I see Elon Musk the individual, and I am able to appreciate another side of Elon Musk- a more human nature. It is kind of like watching two friends having an intimate conversation in their backyard. Perfection! ☕️

I don't usually respond to these types of things but the fact that you said it somehow triggered me to respond and tell you that I agree. I'm not sure how often I read comments like this but watching videos at normal Pace seems like the thing to do. Seems like with even smartphones people just don't have enough time they are consuming so much they want to double the speed. I don't get it. Just like abbreviations and all these things I end up typing most of everything except LOL out.

Long time ago I introduced the computer to my grandfather, who passed away aged 95, several years ago. When I told him that you can communicate with the whole world instantly and you can get all the information you want instantly through it, he looked at it and asked: "Does it make your life easier or not?". I was very doubtful what to answer back then. It certainly can make life easier in many ways. However, it cannot make up for the purely human emotional experience. The speed of data and information exchange overall does not change that. Would it enhance your emotional experience as a human if you were able to say a 1000 words a second ?! I personally do not think so. I think actually it will get us further away from our human nature and just make life even more complicated.
I agree. I think waiting or working hard for something makes it much more valuable and beautiful. Eg; A big old oak tree. However there is definitely value in being able to restore functions to people and speed/clarity in communication might help unlock new unexplored territory in human psyche! Or render us bored more quickly.
As everything in this world, we can or not find value in something. This is my point of view related to the "life easier" and the emotional aspect even with the narrow view of the 1000 words.
Everything in our lives is a result of learning, learning by the objective live you has lived or the things you choose to learn. Even though the things you choose to learn you can go from feeling miserable to a higher estate in your life.
If you are curious and you search, you'll find, so if you can search fast enough and learn fast enough you can get to be, as human, in a very good state of mind and be really happy.
But that it's just seeing things my way. I use to feel life was not long enough to learn and experience all I wanted, this can help me.

I've used a computer for more than 37 years in every creative way that I could. I can attest that anything I've done with it, and whatever joy I got out of that, does not and will never compare to a real and deep communication with another human being, or interacting with, and appreciating all the beauty of the real world.
