BOOST vs. DRIVE PRESSURE

- Everyone wants to talk about BOOST numbers, but no one wants to talk about DRIVE PRESSURE! Drive pressure can be a killer, and will cause catastrophic failure if left un-checked, and incorrect, for too long!
Lenny talks about the importance of drive pressure, and how to accurately check it on your vehicle!

Thank you for taking the time making video, great info! Always learn something.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video Lenny. Very informative and insightful.
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic video dudes. Nice work!!
Thanks a ton!
Turbos. I am going with one I bought from DAP. I am not going for crazy HP numbers. 400 at the flywheel is is fine. Great video BTW. One of Lenny's videos on how they make injectors got my interest. I already had a set of +50hp not installed from someone else. I ordered a set of Stage III nozzles from DDP to swap in. After watching another injector video by Lenny I wish I just ordered a set of their Stage III injectors. I may do that still.
Great video
Awesome video man 👍🏻
Thanks! 👍
Grate video really well explained. I have a adjustable waste gate and was surprised when messing about with it how after the sweet spot those egt spirals and the truck actually looses power
Glad it helped!
Great content thanks for the info.

Good content!
Glad you enjoyed it
Are you able to get an accurate drive pressure reading using the factory EBP and MAP?
excellent vid !!!
If my truck is running clean and ego's stay below 1100 do I need to worry about drive pressure?
Will having the EMP gauge mounted near the base of the turbine housing, just after the flange, cause readings to skew at all?
Mounting it in the turbine housing, opposed to the manifold? No, it should not affect your readings.
Where do you hook up your drive pressure line to
One end goes in to the exhaust manifold, with a copper tube coil. The other end goes to some sort of boost gauge.
Watch it again.
Thanks for all yall videos it really helps a lot
No Problem, that's why we're here!
Can you run compounds if they both have wategates? Sxe369 paired with a hx35w
Will drive pressure affect turbo surge? My truck starts a surge/swishing noise when it hits lock up. It’s an 04 5.9 Cummins that has a bd super b special that is a 64.5 compressor and a .80 housing. Not real sure of the turbine wheel size
Yes, and No.... There is no short, and simple, answer to your question. The biggest issue that we've seen, for that application, is actually a result of the ratios in the transmission and too large of an RPM drop causing the surge.
@@DynomiteDieselTV thanks for the reply. Really enjoy your videos
We're glad you're enjoying them!
Im doing a compound kit on my 12v right now. Do I wastegate the little turbo??? What keeps the little turbo from over spooling?
1 of 2 ways to keep the high pressure turbo from overspending.
1 size it too big to over speed
2 wg inturnal or external.
what about VGT turbos lets say in a duramax? as far a drive pressure / boost ratio?
If it doesn't have compounds on it, I wouldn't be concerned with it.
Well dang, now I need to check my system. I have k27 over a 369 on a vp truck with your 125hp injectors and I can get 1400egt real easy... wonder if the 27 is working too hard. Huh
Drive pressure will tell you the answer!
