Thats a good question. I just tried it out for a while to see get a hold on the difference. But since you asked i made a new run trying out a 20AA cruiser the same way i did with the 65AA cruiser and found a couple of interesting things! To answer your question first. With 65AA i got an average of 12,6% damage on my cruisers/engagement. With 20,6 in AA i got an average of 26% damage, so just above half damage for the extra AA. But then i found something perhaps even more interesting. As you could to double or tripple damage as i show in the video. With the 20,6AA cruiser i did a lot of halv and one third damage, so killing 11 and 7 planes in an engagement instead of 20. Those where really common so i did a lot less damage, going from an average of 9,5 planes per engagement to 5,2 planes per engagement. Its cheaper to build with less AA, 20% cheaper but they are just half as good. The increased damage taken also gives you more cost in repair and less efficiency since they are in harbour instead of shooting down planes. //TheRealBoppus
And after seeing this I for sure see myself trying out some bait DDs to throw into airzones where I know the AI wants to lose some NAVs. A DD3 can get into the low 30s for AA but costs 1/3 the price of a CL. I also think there are some RIOs that you can use to boost the AA on DD3s. Sure it won't be targeted as much, but you also don't want any other ships in the area if you are trying to bait NAVs. @@hyggegaming EDIT: yeah, Escort Fleet can get up to 30% AA attack, which is ridic
This is what i love with explaining mechanics and not just saying build this or that, game discussions and ppls creativity! Sound like a great thing to try out, there might be a risk they manage to kill your destroyers because of the lower HP, but please tell me how it went, if it works it will be amazing because of the lower cost. In MP you also have the suprise-effect. If this strategy goes unnoticed and you manage to get a lot of engagementa in a short time. You will inflict a lot of damage before they retreat with the nav-bombers //TheRealBoppus
@@hyggegaming Interesting find. Does that mean the 20 AA cap isn't actually that impactful (or perhaps doesn't work at all)? Since both the 65 AA and 21 AA ships killed planes in more or less the same ratios.
NAVs tend to attack ships with high HP. So you could try to make Super Heavy Battleship with lots of AA. I have tried this and I have killed hundreds of planes in one battle. Also if you put the best armour, it's basically impenetrable by other ships while it can penetrate the armour of any other type of vessel.
I agree, that should be a great counter to carrierbuilds, they will as you say be targeted by a lot of planes, have a lot of damagereduction because of the AA, and will shoot down a lot. The HP will make them survive and the cost is managebel. //TheRealBoppus
I'd like to know if you took into account that Base Strike doctrine, increases the Naval Targeting of NAVs in 40% (total) (a player has enough time to max. out this doctrine); and if Agility, indeed, impacts the hit chance of enemy AA ships. And thanks for the guides! They are very good and well detailed.
Always depends on situation, if you are meeting an enemy carrierfleet head to head that might be needed. But if you are in the mediterran and the enemy just have navalbombers they you will clear that within months with ANBCs :) //TheRealBoppus
The HoI 4 Wiki is very outdated. Always check the tool tips in-Game and test for yourself. For example, naval piercing has partial piercing now, and will be in the game‘s naval battle window, hovering over the light/heavy attack stat. Also good catch / attention to detail @ 1:36.
Yeah, the naval piercing is extremely important and the in game took tips are great, not always easy to know where to look. Sometimes i just randomly hover over someting and a new tool tip shows up :) //TheRealBoppus
I do not understand: What detirmines how many engagements occur? Is it the planes or the ships? Because I know planes can sortie three times a day. Is that what it is?
Can you test if you get bomber defense 25% if you do tac strat? Can you test if field hospital works with trickleback if you are out of supply connection?(coast marines)
@@hyggegaming also Can you check if nav bomber can join sub convoy raiding? Also as strike force or off naval battle naval strike/port strike/naval scout missions?

So AAA can shoot down more planes than are in the battle? How does that work? shoot down the same plane multiple times? For reference, the battle you showed shooting down 160 aircraft, but the enemy only had 100.
How big is the damage reduction on a 65 AA ship compared to a 20 AA ship?

How many of these ships are needed to counteract four aircraft carriers (240 naval bombers) without losing anything?
@@smirnoff01I feel like at that point it’s more down to the other ships in the fleet to win the screen battle
