Awesome, I received a Lost Mayhem board about 10 years ago as a gift and it is the same exact design, to a tee except it’s on the whole board, even the fins are glassed. I’ve been trying to find the artist who did it and since there’s no signatures or anything on the board it’s not been easy and I haven’t seen another one on the internet until now, I mean it’s the exact same design.
It will definitely work on a used board and it will give it a whole new character. Just be sure you get all the wax off the deck first. Thanks for watching!
This is such a cool video. Is there a specific type of spray paint and soap. Also my board isn't new ill just have to take the wax off it any ideas on how to do that so it all gets off
Don't know if it is still helpfull, but you have to put the board on sunlight for 10 minutes, and than, with a credit card, take it off... Then, to maximize the result, with some acetone, take the rest and then it's done
Would you spray the bottom? What tape was it that you were using to mask off? If you did the deck, then a year or so later wanted to put fresh wax on, would the paint come off when scraping the old wax off?

Hello, So I painted my board with acrylic spray paint mate. It feels rusty when you swipe it on top with your hand. Some parts of it was painted well as of “well dried” but other parts it can be easily removed by just scratching it. Probably I’ll remove it but I was wondering if it’s better to spray it with acrylic Gloss spray for that well sprayed and stickiness to it without taking off the paint by just scratching if you know what I mean? Thanks!
Brandom Garcia when I paint a finished board I try to do it in places where I won’t rub the paint off easily. I also cover the paint with a coat of clear acrylic paint. This gives it a little more beef. Painting it where I wax over it gives it the most protection.
Brandom Garcia matte paint will work just fine. However I find semi gloss comes out looking the best. It closely matches the sheen of the surfboard. It all depends on the look your going for. There are no right or wrong ways. Just creative expression.
Hey! Looks great! I do this design alot on my boards that I paint. Gotta ask you though, do you use the same brand for all of the paints? The black & top layer often has a crackle effect. I was wondering if that had to do with the brand being different, They're all enamel outdoor paints.
I did that to my tail gate but my base was glow in the dark then I used masking tape to make a Halloween happy face then I used a lot of colors and fading before I rinsed it. It turned out sick at daytime and night time
Bundy Boys I didn’t practice at all given it’s an abstract effect. However I did think it through, especially with taping off my edges after applying my base colors and before applying the soap and top color.
Lachie James sanding lightly with 220 or 500 grit is recommended. At the minimum be sure to clean the area with acetone to remove any residue from the board before painting.
Ive had the board for over a year now and don't have any paint coming off. the wax pretty much protects it in addition to the acrylic clear coat. Im sure if your painting rails or nose where they are constantly being rubbed the paint will start to come off.
does the paint add grip?lmao........ /: Yeah bro the paint adds so much grip. you'll be lofting backside air reverses in no time. gotta get the extra grippy paint though
The paint is still on and looking good. I don't surf this board much anymore though. What's key is putting an acrylic clear coat over the paint job. It adds a nice layer of protection. So does the wax in this particular location. Have fun customizing your board. Remember you can always erase it with some acetone if you don't how it comes out.
THAT is awesome. Just ran across this looking for ideas to paint my board.... I REALLY like this
Thanks for sharing this technique so sick!
Looks sharp. Well done.
Definitely going to try this method on my next board. Great video 👍
Tim Osborne it’s easy to do and looks awesome! Have fun with it!

Nice Job man! I was curious to know what brand is the traction pad?
fernando margain I’m not sure what brand this trackpad is but it is basically the same as the Dakine Indy traction pad.
Hi, i m just doing this to my surfboard how long do you let it dry before rinse it with water ? normal curing time 24hours ? Cheers great video
What exact clear coat and spray paints do you use?
Can you paint an entire board and apply automotive varnish to protect the paint?
Does the clear coat really prevent it prom coming off?
Woooooaaaaah.....
nice work. is that just plain black spray paint at 3:30? and it just rolls right off the disk soap?
Sick video mate yeww will this work on a used board

*I DID THIS 10 YEARS AGO* THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST LOOK ON A BOARD

sick job bro, what does the soap do?
Sebastian Budge it keeps the final color from touching the other colors.
Amazing Job! I just think this isnt right clear coat to use, its not hold longer. Spray bomb clearcoat not hold good in the water.
parabens muito bom
Heyy I just painted my board how long did I wait wen I can do the soap
Bas Gelissen till it’s dry
Nice 👍
Awesome! How did it hold up 2 years later?
I don't surf that board anymore (snapped off nose in reef break) but the paint job held up just fine. wax actually protects it.
Nice
What kind of soap did you use
Owen Gray basic dish soap is all you need. Dish soap works great because it’s thick.
Thats what she said
What is the name of the liquid you use? I would like to know the exact brand and model
Thank you!!
Hey man, what kind of paint are you using? And does it matter what kind you use.
Jack Payne use acrylic based paint.
@@bwroolie for the colors as well or just for the clear coat?
I still dont understand how soap makes that effect! its awesome
the soap just blocks to top layer of paint from contacting the bottom layers of paint.
about the protection layer after spray painting... what would you recommend? I’m painting a kite surf board so we don’t have that extra wax..
clear acrylic spray paint is all you need.
i live in mozambique and i can’t find acrylic anything in spray can i use oil based paint?

For the clearcoat do use a gloss or a matte type of spray paint?
matte is best
And does the all soap come off when u rinse it?
Yes just like washing dishes
Hi!! What type or brand of clear coat did you use?? Thanksss
Any acrylic based clear coat will do

what grit sandpaper did you use?
220 grit is recommended. just enough to rough it up a bit for paint to adhere without cutting into the hot coat too much.
1:40 music
Sick
z3thyvl0gz thanks for watching!
I did that to my tail gate but my base was glow in the dark then I used masking tape to make a Halloween happy face then I used a lot of colors and fading before I rinsed it. It turned out sick at daytime and night time
I love it, turned out beautiful!!! May I ask what kind of soap you were using?
Peter Mascari All you need to use his regular household dish soap
Same question!
Do you have to use black ?
Thanks bud🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
did u practice before hand?
Bundy Boys I didn’t practice at all given it’s an abstract effect. However I did think it through, especially with taping off my edges after applying my base colors and before applying the soap and top color.
do you need to sand the boat before painting?
Ella Fontenot yes it’s recommended
This is good for water? I want to paint a wake board helmet like this
Vinny Chen yes
@@bwroolie would I need to sand it before or just clean it?
hey!do i have to sand my board before doing this process.
safouane meraouf a light sanding with 220 grit paper wouldn’t hurt and would help paint adhere better.
SurfTopics Thanks man.
do you let the paint dry before you put on the soap
floater yes Let the paint dry first then apply the soap then spray paint over the soap. Let it dry and then rinse off.
Wroolie Mechanical thanks man i’m bout to grab a new board soon and would love to do this
Do you have to sand the area where you are going to paint
Lachie James sanding lightly with 220 or 500 grit is recommended. At the minimum be sure to clean the area with acetone to remove any residue from the board before painting.
I thought paint need to be applied before glassing. I have tried to paint on top of glass and I makes it heavy and slippery
Does that stay on when you wax and ride it? Or start peeping soon after... I've painted the bottom of one of my boards which stayed but never the top.
Ive had the board for over a year now and don't have any paint coming off. the wax pretty much protects it in addition to the acrylic clear coat. Im sure if your painting rails or nose where they are constantly being rubbed the paint will start to come off.
Does the soap painting act as grip??
Johnnie Kennedy no it doesn’t add any grip. Still need wax.
does the paint add grip?lmao........ /: Yeah bro the paint adds so much grip. you'll be lofting backside air reverses in no time. gotta get the extra grippy paint though
Johnnie Kennedy just slightly makes you're foot not slippery
what kind of soap is that? is okay if i use dish washing liquid?
any liquid soap will work, the thicker the better
which board is that?? and the sizes??
Conor Maguire this board is a Sharp Eye SB-1 with custom dims of 6-1” x 19-1/2” x 2-5/8”.
SurfTopics many thanks!
did u have any problems with wax sticking?
also want to know
I'm guessing not
@surftopics what kind of surfboard is that? I'd like to know the specifics.
Noah Arocha It’s a SharpEye SB-1 Model. 6’1” x 19-1/2” x 2-5/8”.
How long did this last you before you started seeing paint coming off? Or is the paint still in good condition? I want to do this for my board
@@bwroolieThanks
usually hard to sell later, people would think you are covering a snap/crease repair
Tony Wong that’s a legitimate concern if you plan on reselling.
Ahoy Captain Obvious
I need to use a special type of soap?
any dish soap will work
What soap did u use
regular dish soap is all you need.
What kind of soap did you use?
All you need is standard dish soap that you would have next to the kitchen sink.
@@bwroolie Thanks Man
Use motion lotion!
Can it be just permanent spray paint
As long as it is acrylic paint it will be fine.
I’ve never seen anyone put their stomp pad on like that
Scout Swing good luck peeling it off once you apply heat to the glue. Hair dryer works just fine too.
Imagine you did all this and your board snaps in half in big surf. That would suck
LOL. I snapped part of the nose off about a year later. but it really doesn't take long to paint and it is fun to do.
なんてゆう液を使った?
can i do this on the slick of a bodyboard?
Which type of soap
any type of liquid soap is fine. it's just there to displace the fiberglass from the paint and is easy to wash away once paint dries.
Is it easy to wax with the paint on it? And will the paint come off as u wax it?
Actually the wax protects the paint. It’s amazing how long the paint can last.
what kind of soap?
Anykind will do. All it does is create a barrier where the paint won't bond to the board.
put the tail pad on after you paint
Great vidéo ! What is a back thing a the beginning vidéo that you stick to the penny ? What is it and what is it called ? ( I’ m French 😂❤️)
• ARUAL • The big black pad is a traction pad. The little string behind it is a leash strength that I attached a least two.
SurfTopics Ok thank you ! 🤗 ( I had the hard time writing thaïs comment , I hat to go Google traduction 😂👌🏻)
What paint ??? Its loose
any acrylic spray paint will work. Don't forget to subscribe! lots more videos coming!
Ok thanks
Don’t use heat with that blow dryer, you’ll weaken your fiberglass
Al Ken great point. Be sure to use low heat and keep the dryer moving. Definitely don’t leave it in one place too long.
massa
mad as

Lost would charge 500 for that paint job : )
