She sat on her throne, fully dripped out in Egyptian Royal attire, and drank her poison, the hardest way to die in all of history, she was in her own class as a ruler, the first of her family to learn the local language just so she could rule better, her demise was being too closely tied to Roman politics in its chaotic phase, picking sides after Caesar died, she bet big and lost, but she did it her way and i respect that

They must have had some local marry into the family at some point but yeah the Ptolemaic dynasty did beat the Habsburgs when it comes to nobles keeping it in the family.
Edit: I checked and the Habsburgs really don't have anything on the Ptolemaic dynasty, the only person who might be Egyptian in her bloodline is Cleopatra's unknown grandmother, other than the family tree is pretty closed with a couple Greek nobles coming in at the start at it is completely closed in the 150 years before Cleopatra besides her unknown grandmother.

@@ad_astra468 funny you mentioned Hapsburgs, there’s a bust in the archaeological museum of Churchel, Algeria of either Cleopatra Selene or her mother (The Cleopatra) that has a Hapsburg like chin, nose, and mouth, possibly a result of inbreeding also. Cleopatra Selene had far more genetic variation than her mother so for me odds are is that she had less of a chance of inheriting genetic abnormalities which makes me think that the bust was truthfully a depiction of (the) Cleopatra VII Philopator and those were her actual features.

Couple of fun infos to add too, [a bit long, I'm a nerd about this shit lol] Mark Antony had actually met Cleopatra before Caesar on a Roman mission to get more money for military campaigns. She was 14 years old, and according to what we know he was possibly said to have been smitten even then. (Ancient Weird shit lol)
And Mark Antony's primary beef had a lot to do with Caesar naming Octavius as his succesor, Octavius was Caesar's nephew and adopted son. They had beef over this and then they squashed it declaring the 2nd Triumvirate, a 3 person leadership between Octavius, Lepidus, and Mark Antony. They ruled like this for sometime until Mark Antony [With Cleopatra whispering in his ear about conquest and rightful rule] went to Egypt and ruled with her in the then Ptolemaic Kingdom while controlling Eastern Rome. He had lost favor in Rome over leaving his wife to live with a mistress [which believe it or not, was frowned upon by the Roman public] & seemingly being more Egyptian than Roman.
So basically, Octavian and Mark Antony had 10 year long cold war with eachother over the rightful claim to be Caesar, with Antony living it up with Cleopatra playing at being Alexandrians instead of Romans. Eventually, as one would expect, the 2nd Triumvirate dissolved over attacks that had happened on Octavian's side of Rome, this lead to war between the two, Octavian then in 32 BC convinces the senate to go to war with Egypt, Octavian and Marcus Agrippa lead a charge and have them backed into a corner taking control of the Ptolemaic Kingdom, until tragically Antony & Cleopatra both commit suicide.
After this with the guidance of the newly crowned Emperor Augustus Caesar (Octavian) Rome was then ushered into the PAX ROMANA, Roman Peace, the golden age of Rome, which saw Egypt/The Ptolemaic Kingdom absorbed into the Roman Empire, with its Ptolemaic nobility stripped of power, and the country under his direct control.
Cleopatra was the last queen of Rome, but damn was she fucking good at Politicking a bunch of pissed off Romans and their complicated successor situations 😂

She was rolled up in a rug and rolled out at Caesar's feet.
She's Greek so their common language was Greek since she didn't know Latin, but she did study all of the local/regional languages of the peoples of Egypt which her Greek (Ptolemy) family came in and ruled over.
She gained the support of the local people who didn't like her foreign family ruling because she spoke their languages and learned their cultures. A conservative estimate is that she spoke 7 languages (some sources claim up to 20).
When she was kicked out of line to the throne, she went to different cities to win the local peoples' support to depose her little bro husband. She got that. When Caesar came into town, she knew he was the best general and knew she needed Caesar for his naval prowess. She took Egypt for herself and had Caesar (who was in his 50s at this time) by her side to back her, but he had to keep going back to Rome.
Also, while her older sisters and father were infighting and killing each other (egged on by their own advisors who were power hungry), she was too young and spent all her time in the library, studying, for which she was teased.
She was 17 when she stepped into power, after being forced to marry her little brother as was the family tradition.
She also first met Marcus Antonius before she met Caesar, but it wasn't significant because she was still a kid. Octavian/Augustus was Caesar's adopted son, and he was not primarily known for his military skill, but Marcus was in his prime at the time.
Her oldest son by Caesar was *** by Octavian/Agustus, because he was a threat to his own rule (Octavian was an adopted son, not rightful by blood like Caesarion). Cleopatra tried to send her young son away in the dead of night to escape Octavian, but he was captured and ****. She had twins by Mark Antony, who were given to Octavian's sister after their parents' demise.
All of this ended in 30 BC. Hatshepsut and Nefertiti were ancient Egyptians to Cleopatra.

    • @Boss_Isaac

Politics is a cruel game, but I'm gonna be that guy and go “Uhmm, actuALlY?”; so yeah, Ptolemaios Caesar even though GJC did recognize him as his son was born out of wedlock, that he was furthermore sired by a foreign queen, no way Cleopatra ever would've been able to leverage him as the #LegitHeir. As far as Roman law was concerned, you effectively *_were_* your adoptee(?)'s blood child, that one inherited their estate and took their name, Octavius -> Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus was made his father's heir that he was a legitimate blood relation of Caesar's, he was his grandnephew, born of Caesar's sister Iulia.
IIRC Caesarion had been hiding out in a smaller Egyptian town further south from Alexandria that it was a few days after Cleopatra's death, August 30 BC, that Octavianus saw him return to the capital upon which his troops took him and had the 17 year old youth hanged.

I mean, i get the analogy, but Cleopatra was ethically Greek rather than ethnically Egyptian. BUT she was incredibly well read and one of the only greek rulers who learned the Coptic Egyptian Language, you know all those Hieroglyphs she could practically read them. The concept of race between greeks and ethnic italians were very close. Tho it was basically roman policy to basically treat any foreign power with extreme prejudice and call them barbarians. But basically, the only reason that Cleopatra basically offed herself was she didnt want to face the humiliation of being paraded around as a trophy in a roman triumph, even if she would live. The funny thing is, Octavian aka Augustus, took care of all of Cleopatras children with Antony as a promise not to harm them... only Caesarion was the lone expection and his sister Octavia who wasone of Antony's ex wives was tasked woth caring for them. Octavian was a pretty harsh person and sociopathic but did seem to have a spark of mercy and humanity liek his Uncle Caesar did. Roman history be crazy

When Cleopatra and Antony died their children were taken in by Octavia and raised them as her own children with their half siblings (Mark and Octavia’s children). Cesarion got on a boat with Octavius and then disappeared.

Much like modern political mudslinging and insults to one's image you might find on a famous person on social media. Octavian aka Augustus, did not hate Mark Antony just because of Cleopatra, Octavian and mark Antony where in a power struggle. Originally Octavian and mark Antony and another guy i think teamed up to seek and kill the people who murder Caesar, they also formed a political alliance with another guy called the second trumvite. Before all of this, Octavian told mark antony "now you are ally, but you still remain my enemy" if you still wondering what happened to junior Caesar he meets his fate at the hands of Augustus after Cleopatra sided with mark antony and probably because he was a threat to his power as the junior Caesar was used as a rally point. Please feel free to correct me where im wrong.
