his video has so many hints and possible ways of interpretation: First of all there are references to earlier songs and videos like "Ich Will" ("heist", haircut, smoking), "Mein Herz Brennt" (grid, cave), "Deutschland" (red beam and coffin in space shown at the official countdown to the premiere) , "Liebe ist für alle da", "Mann gegen Mann" (masses of bodies), and of course: "MUTTER" (cave with grid, Till in cave, "Mutter 22" on the laboratory door). It looks like they are on a crusade (crosses in focus) using a car with "LIFAD 6" as number plate: LIFAD is the official fan community of Rammstein and also the name of their sixth album. They enter the Paris opera house and shoot their way towards the "laboratory". While doing so, they are "dirty", dressed up for the fight. Flake mages to get the door opened with his hacker tool. On the door you find the letters “Mutter 22”. This can have (at least for me) two meanings: Their third album Mutter was released in 2001 and will become 21 years old next year. Even more fitting is another explanation for me: Around the time of “Mutter”, the band had internal conflicts and they were even close to a split. Beside other things there were disputes about the artistic future. So, they open the door “of “Mutter” and behind it there are clones of themselves. And they somehow have a kind of similar looking to the fetus (a 200 year old dead fetus btw.) One could see those “clones” as former beings of them from the “Mutter” area. Beside that the always straight red beam (past and future / red thread) has lost its direction. Like the band wasn’t clear which way to proceed. The current Rammstein change their behavior, become soft, sentimental, … before they burn down the lab and their “Mutter” clones. For me it shows, that they had to break free from the situation they were in, but nevertheless it was their live and their success, … The following scene will introduce the cave to us. From above there are six statues looking / facing downwards into it. Down there are the band members in a cage surrounded by masses of creatures (for me the fans). The band members in the cage are attached to chains, which are pulled by the creatures (fans). The band is stuck in a cage is in hell. The masses are following them, but they are are also “tormenting” the band. The fans themselves are also stuck in hell themselves. Within the cave the band is first in the cage and has metal “helmets” on and the creatures don’t move. Then they get rid of the helmets and the fans start to move. The bands gets more energetic. Finally they get free and rise towards heaven, smiling, but there is still some firing of guns. With them the fans rise up. The next scene is still irritating: The band is on ground level of the opera again, moves towards the cage and they all jump into the cave. Now you see the “band-creatures” standing on top of the cave. They rise their arms and it seems that they are pulling down the giant statues from the top of the cave. Everything crushes down, but the straight red beams rises upwards. They had to crush the hell with the giant statues as “gods” at the top and the band caught in a cage at the bottom to have a straight direction again. While the credits of this incredibly insane production are shown, one can see the dead band members lying on the floor towards the laboratory door. Right in front of the door with still “Mutter-22” on it, we find the dead Flake with his not successful hacker tool trying to unlock the door. Is this an alternative ending? Maybe. Somehow. I get the idea, that there are two time layers woven together. In the past the crushed the hell, escaping the boundaries given by fans, public, media and very probably even themselves. They were successful and the band had a future, represented by the straight upward red beam. But history can repeat. They are always endangered to get trapped again, to be torn apart. And therefore in 2022 there can be a new “Mutter-Crisis” like in the original one. They have to be aware of it and have to fight it every time it happens. When they nowadays find their “clones” behind that door, they know, they have to “burn” them down, but they have now a more differentiated view onto the past and therefore there is also sympathy for and an emotional connection with their “clones”. But if they do not face the danger of getting trapped again (as clones or as caged creatures) there will be no future for Rammstein. Then band “THEN” would die and the red beam would disappear. But if they are aware of it and if they continuously succeed to avoid being trapped again, there IS a future for the band All these ideas written down here are my personal thoughts. They can be one explanation, they can be wrong, they can be one of many interpretations. I still have so many question marks myself. But also some ideas, that might be not totally wrong.
There is a 2011 movie about Greek gods called “immortals” where the titans are stuck in a cage similar to the one in this videos also at the end of that movie the mighty warriors claim there immortality and fight in the heavens much like the floating shooting scene in this music video.

As always, the song can be interpreted in many ways, but one thing is sure: it is a good bye song. Wether from a friend passed away, wether from your younger self, wether to their fans because they retire...who knows. Please check out the english translation of the lyrics and make your thoughts! "Adieu" is a common phrase in Germany, espescially in the south-western region because of the common border with France. Here in my region, there are some french words mostly used by the older generation, for example parapluie (umbrella), portmonnaie (wallet) or trottoir (sidewalk).
Afaik Paul said that this song isn't about the band retiring he was quoted by rollingstine magazin „Rammstein hat niemals über das Aufhören nachgedacht. The songs on the new album are dealing with experiences and losses all band members made throughout their lifes. It [Adieu] is no song which indicates the end of Rammstein. All band members still have a lot of fun with Rammstein."
The video is from the same director as the Deutschland video. There is even an intro sequence that transitions from the last scene of the Deutschland video to this video. You can watch this short clip on my channel.
as far as i understand it, its a "goodbye" to their youngerselfs... cutting all ties to their old creative life. it would be a perfect farewell song, but afaik no retirenment is intendet. just Rammstei-alike... as usual ;-)
Adieu is french but is used in Germany a lot, which is logical as parts of Germany where occupied by the French and others by the British. "Bye" as well as "Adieu" are frequently used as if they where german words, However Adieu is more used in a sense of a long time you will not see or even a Good Bye forever (similar to the german "Lebe wohl" -"farewell/have a good life") while "bye" is used to end a call or if you see again tomorrow (similar to the germ "machs gut" - "do well" or "Wir sehen uns [morgen]" - "See you [tomorrow]".
This music video is very confusing. I think the problem is that the original song had a certain idea, but the director of the video (more like the movie) changes the original clear meaning. But this has also happened in other Rammstein music videos. There are many allusions here to previous songs as well as movies - e.g. The Matrix - the scene when Rammstein break into the building (it's the Paris Opera) - of course it's related to the song "Du Hast"- the song that was heard in this movie. Interpretations can be different (which is probably the creator's intention). Anyway, the themes of fighting, death, captivity and liberation are repeated in the video (as in the lyrics ). So if I interpret this video from the position of the lyrics of the song, then it is a dark meditation on a life that is heading towards death. A person can try to fight death ("crusade" - the cross is on Till's neck, it also appears on the windshield of the van, the minigun shooter's mask has the shape of a cross). But the very symbol of the cross is ambiguous - it symbolizes death (cemeteries) on the one hand, but faith on the other hand (existence does not end with death). But Rammstein declared themselves atheists. So the fight is futile. The scene of hell and ascension may mean reflection on the dual possibility of existence after death. But (regarding atheism - in the song they sing "no miracle happens") the hell scene can also mean suffering during life - we are attacked by our own demons, doubts and fear of death (as well as the pain of the death of loved ones). The "ascension" scene is taken from the movie "The immortals" - the fight between the Titans and the Gods. We know the Titans have been defeated. Man cannot win over death. So he has to accept it. But nothingness also means the end of all suffering. The only thing a man can do and what gives him greatness is to accompany his fellows to the brink of death and not forget them. Rammstein destroys their bodies in cryochambers - there is no point in trying to prolong life artificially (e.g. vegetative "life", when the body is connected to equipment - ICU in a hospital). The "overthrow of the deities" scene - takes place under a dome that looks exactly like the Pantheon in Rome. Pantheon means "temple of all gods". I understand it in the sense of "God is dead and we have killed him" (Nietzsche). It may mean that they proudly reject the illusory hope offered by religion. At the end, Rammstein lie dead - they lost the fight, but that doesn't mean it was pointless. Death cannot lose - we always lose in a match with it. But the real defeat would be passive surrender - life's fatalism, that's why even a lost battle in advance has a meaning.
Nice reaction^^ but the lyrics are essential to most rammstein songs. @educatedmarine has many with english subtitles on his channel if you are interested.
The clones are copies of themselves. They want to destroy them because they represent the old Rammstein. They want to get rid of that (ascend to heaven), also from the fans who always want the old stuff (the damned ones pulling the chains). But in the end we see that they failed in their mission, they all died before the vault door.
hi from germany wonder if rection video people will learn hot to use transtlation and if there are already translations there gosh but was a nice video where you had no cliue what was about as always
Common theme in anime too. Despite what so many think of the Catholic priesthood, most of them stand against the spiritual and embodied evils. Sometimes it takes guns, Sometimes, it takes mercenaries with guns as a logical backup
Just curious, but after listening to an entire recording from you a red line appears at the bottom of my selection I just listened. Later on I return to the selection and notice that the red line is no longer under the recording I have already listened before. What's going on with this red line? Are you being ripped-off on the number of views?
If you want to hear Till singing in french: ZAZ - Le jardin des larmes feat. Till Lindemann (Clip officiel) If you want to hear Till singing in russian: Till Lindemann Любимый город "LUBIMIY GOROD” (Beloved Town) Many reduce Rammstein only to their videos or live concerts. But Till knows more about singing and poetry than most people ever understand. Of course you have to be able to speak German for most of the songs, but even Germans often have problems understanding the depth of the lyrics at all. The German language itself is so diverse that it is the perfect language for poetry.
This song was the last in the concert of stadium tour and was amazing so emotional I love it more now
