This is very informative for someone like me who has a chameleon for the first time, not only that but has never really handled a reptile before. So this is really making me realize all the stuff I'm doing wrong, and what I need to do right to help my chameleon know I am a safe zone. Thank you !
i can't stress enough how stunning the chameleon that appears in this video is, reptiles are some of the most beautiful and interesting animals on planet earth
OMG he's so cute! I have always wanted a chameleon, but I've always heard they're not a good pet for someone that like to handle a lot, and their husbandry doesn't allow for mistakes. Maybe someday when I'm more experienced, I'll get one! Loved the video! ❤️
I do agree they don't like to be held a lot, but it depends how much time you spend training with them when their a baby and some just hate people and others love it
@Red Fox This is true. I had my Pluto (RIP buddy) from a baby and he literally looked forward to coming out and sitting on his tree, or climbing on my head. He'd run at me to get some tree time. I'm getting another tomorrow, he's 12 weeks, so a bit older than Ploots was when I got him. I'm praying that he's even half as friendly as my last one. Can't wait to get him, had a hole in my life since Pluto passed.
Oh my goodness, he is beautiful !! I loved both the Panthers and Veiled Chameleons. Mine would hang on the door saying let me out. I would take them outside so they could get that natural sun. They always have what I call "a fresh smell" after being outside. If you are in tune to them you can make them happy. ✌🏻❤
Phenomenal video❣️ Same technique's I've use when I first started handling my pet chameleon Hendrix. I didn't handle him so much in the beginning because I knew it would stress him out. I would open his enclosure so when he felt safe he would come out in his own terms. Great job explaining this Trisha. Bamba has a great mommy ❤️
I've always had a hard time getting my chameleon out of his enclosure but whenever he is out he is calm and never gets angry. The only way I've found to be able to get him out of his enclosure was to put these big plants next to the door and then have him come on my hand
I’ve had my baby Karma for just over two weeks now. He is finally relaxed when i come in his cage and when he see’s my cat walk past. I make sure my cat is not around whenever I open his cage. I have offered my hand to him a few times but when he hisses I get so scared and scream/cower. I know thats the worst thing to do but i’m so scared of him biting me. I’m going to spend the weekend working with him. He is so cute I just love him so much 🥲
Ahhh, I ended up here because RUclips suggested a random chameleon video to me... I had never seen them handled much before, and wow! Very cool creatures. I like your approach, seeing things from their point of view. Banba is awesome looking! And thanks for your message at the end - I wish all people with pets would think that way.
My veiled doesn't like my hands too. She was hand-tamed but when I got her I think she lost that trust. She is cage aggressive but when she's out she is completely calm. Also, I handle her every week and hand feed her. I'm just hoping that I'll have a strong bond with her at some point!
Just seeing this video now and I wanted to thank you for the tips in getting them used to you/handling. I will try the hand feeding tomorrow(unfortunately we do not know how old she is and I personally think that she was not given enough time to adjust to her environment and we are also in the process of giving her a bioactive setup!! I am hoping that she will be a little happier with her new environment(the enclosure is also front opening so I am praying that that will help with her stress. I will keep watching her stress levels and habits when certain things are done. Thankyou again!
You are absolutely stunning! I love your tattoos and you’re so knowledgeable about all your reptiles. And you have such a pleasant sweet lil voice! Keep making content please you are wonderful 🙌🏻 I want a chameleon but you have honestly somewhat scared me away from that idea. I feel like I could do it but I’ve never had a reptile of any kind. It seems difficult
Ryan Hudson Thank you so much!! And if you have the passion and are willing to take on the challenge it’s worth it! It’s not for everyone though and it’s best to be responsible about the decision of taking one in. I appreciate that you are researching and not spontaneously bringing one home! Good luck with your research! 💕
I’m going to be getting one in June, ur videos have helped me do a bunch of research and write down good info. I’m 12 and have owned other reptiles, I know it’s not a good pet for kids but I tend to get bored of things easily so I don’t like pets I have to hold and play with when I don’t want to
I just added a veiled chameleon to my reptile collection. I noticed Carson would puff up and run away. This video is just what I needed. Carson is about 7-8 months old. I’m exited to work with him. I’ll be patient. Thank you so much!
You have incredible videos. Wow! I don't own a Chameleon yet, but soon. Why do other Chameleon owners claim it's not good to handle a lizard? You demonstrate a great thought process and technique for making your Chameleon feel comfortable being handled.
Omg hes gorgeous. My boy JJ is a newbie . Right now hes still adjusting to new surroundings so im just talking to him and letting him adjust. My green iguana was a long time since shes trusted me . Its ok im patient 😂😂
Normally with me or most people, I would suggest putting them back when their belly is cold to the touch. After that they should be put back in the cage to allow them to heat up again
Congrats on getting your chameleon. Always do plenty of research when it come to their diet, supplements ( calcium & vitamins) & UVB light's. I definitely suggest visiting chameleon forum. Great way to socialize with people who own Chameleons and give you good insights if you ever have any doubt about something.
In my praying mantis does the same thing, he acts like he doesn't want to come out, and then as soon as I move my arm he panics because he wants to come out, it cracks me up every time
I just adopted my chameleon from an owner who couldn’t take care of him. He escaped his enclosure and was living in a shed for a day or two. When I got him, I fixed him up his new enclosure and he was very, very docile. As soon as I put him in his new enclosure he very much liked it. He was refusing to eat, but eventually ate 2 worms. I think it was him telling me that he’s fine, he ate, but leave him alone. And I did the rest of the night. The next day I got him out because my mom wanted to see him. So he was fighting being out of the cage, but I coaxed him on my hand. Everything was fine until I took him to the other room and he was instantly stressed out. Turned a dark blue/black with bright yellow spots. He would gape his mouth so I figured I’d just put him down and let him roam. He was better instantly. He was still gaping his mouth when I would come by him, so I let him crawl into a box and let him back in his enclosure. Later that day, he escaped! But he wasn’t stressed when I picked him up and put him back in his home. This was maybe like 30 mins of him crawling around my room. Anyway. He’s sleeping right now, and his color is a turquoise/brown/yellow, which is very good. I tried feeding him again, but to not avail. I will try again in a day or two. He’s probably just stressed from a new environment.
I've always struggled even hand feeding, just giving mine a worm or cricket on tweasers and slowly offering it to her made her freak out and immediately run away. I'm thinking it's a personality thing.
Banba is beautiful I have a one year old veiled chameleon he lets me hold him on a stick but yeah when I try hand it ain’t happening. I didn’t think trying the forearm but I’ll give it a try. My baby Jackson that’s probably like five months thou is very friendly loves being on my hand or shoulder
Dominic Rodriguez Mine is the same way. Try offering your forearm instead. It may be less intimidating. And put a bug out of reach on it to give him some motivation to go for it!
I have a 3 month old male veiled chameleon, and we've got along just fine, but 2 weeks ago when i finished the cleaning of his terrarium, he just didnt want to come down from a plant so i picked him up. He really panicked and since then he is afraid of me.. How can i fix my relationship with him?
So I know I found this video later but I just got, what I think to be a female, veiled chameleon:) she is the sweetest thing ever and has never opened her mouth at me once. She has however puffed up a few times when she is nervous about someone or something new. I have heard that she is one of the nicest baby chameleons ever haha. However she does get nervous and stressed sometimes too, so I will for sure be yawing there hand feeding tactic and staying lower than her. Also is it ok to “handle her” within the first week of getting her if she comes into my hands freely? Or do I still need to wait until she is even more comfortable after the hand feeding? Thank you for the info!!
My chameleon is fine when I have the tongs and will actually come out when he hears them. However when some of my friends came over one of them decided to just snatch him out of the cage. Now he is scared of hands and arms. Do you have any tips to help him get used to hands and basically people (mainly me) in general
I know I’m late and all but I am no expert at all on this topic but I do have a baby female chameleon and when she is stressed or hiding from me or anyone really, I just leave her be for about another hour or so and come back when she is more relaxed, then I just will giver her the option to get on a stick instead of my hand so she feels safer as I pull her out. Then she will eventually make her way to my hands if they remain still. Once she gets there I can slowly start to move around and let her explore my arms and hands so she knows I will not hurt her. I hope this helps! :)
Watched a few of your videos and you have put in a lot work! Awesome videos !! I got bit today for the first time !! Drew blood!! But I knew once I opened his cage he was not in a good mood but I kept trying to get him out. Lol. Do you have a drip system for water?
My new baby chameleon absolutely hates his cage being misted. He gets the blue dots going, at which time I try to spray lower to help relieve his stress, but recently he started making grunting noises at me when I do it. I try to keep it from getting on him, but he is just not having it, lol. What to do?
We just got our little chameleon yesterday and I don’t think it’s normal, but he was extremely excited to come out and interact with us. He took a live mealworm from hand enjoyed climbing all over us. Is this ok/normal? He looked very active in his tank at the pet store but I wasn’t expecting him to be this social.
I was wondering, how would you transport your chameleon if you have to move a very long ways away (like a 3 hour plane trip) would that be possible or would that stress them out too much?
My chameleon is all chilled out, he’s still young and I keep trying to pick him up but no matter how low I get my self to the ground or try feeding him. He absolutely hates it. I have no idea what do now.
Really love your videos. I am soon to be a chameleon owner. As a Chef, I work long hours. What advice do you have for someone like me, for taking care of my chameleon? Do you have your basking light on a timer? If so, how long between sessions do put the timer on? The feeding wont be a problem. As I will be able to feed him regularly. This video was helpful, for when I have to tame him.
I've only had my dude for a week but so far he's snapped and hissed at so much that I lost count. I've had to wear thick gloves bc he has tried to bite me. The only time we get along is when we vibe out to music.
I got that one from a reptile store in Chicago called curious creatures. You can get reptibreeze enclosures online too. Or you can get a 2x2x4 from zen habitats
I have a female veiled (very sassy but absolutely amazing and I love her!) she is about 6 months old now and I’ve had her for about 3 months now! She loves exploring and loves to climb onto my hanging plants and curtains... however I’ve still have not been successful in handling her and she’s not food motivated when I try to hand feed... do you have any other ideas or tips I could use?
i know this is a lot older video, so i’m realllly hoping i get a reply lol, but i had a question. i just got a chameleon, a friend needed to rehome him after an unfortunate situation. he’s my first chameleon, though i have experience handling them because i work at a pet store and we had one guy that ALWAYS wanted out and i was very comfortable with handling him. my new chameleon, his name is Booger, is i wanna say 3-4 years old. my friend that i got him from said he was handled as a baby and adult and was very tame to it. i have noticed after me hand feeding him for a while, he does seem like he wants to come out a little bit and walk on my arm. would i go about it the same way in this video for a chameleon that isn’t a baby, and has been handled before? he seems to really like me, when you showed yours at the end and he was very actively looking at you, that’s what mine does when im near him. he seems comfortable being around me because he doesn’t back away or anything like that, ive just been nervous😅 thank you in advance!
That's not tamed then unfortunately. If you have to say he views you as a tree he isn't exactly acknowledging your presence in a positive way. If he still ever hisses at you for anything, you haven't tamed him.
I have had my girl for 1 year already and she also has been trained to hand feed. Although whenever I invite her to come out and play on her tree she tries too eat my hand. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Use a small short stick as an extension to your hand. Close your hand around the stick in a comfortable steady grip. If they don't come, slowly pull away & it may motivate them. If you must take them out for medical exams, use you opposite hand to gently coax forward from behind. Always move slowly, keep space quiet, speak softly & approach from a lower position. Be patient, you're aiming to establish trust, be consistent with the routine so they get familiar & don't expect to handle frequently. Learn to expand your knowledge & understand subtle behavior cues. Pay attention to feed back & gradually you'll strike a harmonious balance. Before approaching, avoid scented cosmetics or toiletries, it can turn them away & wash after to avoid microscopic issues like bacteria. Blessings!
Hi Trish! I loved this video but I need help! It worked too well and my Veiled, Crowley wants to come out of his house everytime I go near the cage. He comes down to the door and paws at the latch until I let him out or he gets bored and climbs back up to his canopy. He doesn't do much sitting, just uses me as an escalator more than a tree. He doesn't seem to stress when out either, he stays light colored. Any tips?
I have a grown up Chamaeleon that I got recently how do I like let it know I’m not a threat because every time I go to feed it or add things to it’s sanctuary it puffs up and hisses at me what do I do
Some of them might do a tongue dip every once in awhile but I have a little dish with some meal worms in it for my chameleon. Coat your crickets and he should be good!
Nope! Chameleons come in a certain variety of colors based on species and locale. The hues and colors can change a bit due to stress, temp, humidity, or communicating with other chameleons. They cannot change color to match their environment like everyone was told about them.
Just pinch one of the crickets back legs and hold between your fingers but like on the surface of your other back hand, if that makes sense? That’s what I do
Omg i freaked out when mine started doing that shifty movement on my hand. Thought he was trying to mate😂 so hes just trying to get balanced and comfortable? He also goes bright colours when i open his enclosure and starts scratching at the door to get to me does this mean hes comfortable with me?
he feels safe on your arm because he sees you havent eaten the turtle on your arm. so if the turtle's safe your chameleon also feels safe haha
#1 tip for sure is patience. Took me 5 months of working with Neptune before he came out on his own.
I've learned a lot watching your video as well. Merry Xmas to you and Neptune
Queen Gene Aww thank you! Right back at ya :)
Omg haiiii
Blueberry Studios Hiiiii :)
Hi!!! I’m hoping I can get a chameleon one day!
Oh my god, that's the sweetest chameleon I've seen ever. You changed my whole idea about them.
This is very informative for someone like me who has a chameleon for the first time, not only that but has never really handled a reptile before. So this is really making me realize all the stuff I'm doing wrong, and what I need to do right to help my chameleon know I am a safe zone. Thank you !

Mine looks exactly like that one and I’m so proud to have a beautiful lizard😍
I just got my baby veiled on Sunday! It is so hard waiting the first two weeks cause I want to watch him crawl around all day!
me too
Thx,this gave me more insight:)
How are they doing? ^^
Yea, how are you doing with it? ^
Yea how they doin ^^^
OMG he's so cute! I have always wanted a chameleon, but I've always heard they're not a good pet for someone that like to handle a lot, and their husbandry doesn't allow for mistakes. Maybe someday when I'm more experienced, I'll get one! Loved the video! ❤️

If a chameleon wants to come out that means they are uncomfy with their enclosure

I would open his enclosure so when he felt safe he would come out in his own terms. Great job explaining this Trisha. Bamba has a great mommy ❤️
Queen Gene Aww, thank you so much! And that’s also a great method! 💕
Just got a baby yesterday. She sits on my finger like a parrot. It’s kind of funny.
Maybe yours likes your arm because of all the flower tattoos! Lol
Aw they way he chased her arm, thats adorable-
I've always had a hard time getting my chameleon out of his enclosure but whenever he is out he is calm and never gets angry. The only way I've found to be able to get him out of his enclosure was to put these big plants next to the door and then have him come on my hand
why does it seem easier to manhandle my pitbulls than it does to deal with chameleons? LOL
I’ve had my baby Karma for just over two weeks now. He is finally relaxed when i come in his cage and when he see’s my cat walk past. I make sure my cat is not around whenever I open his cage. What an amazing chameleon! Great video!
My female really likes going on my head 😂 because it’s the highest place and I find it so funny
Ahhh, I ended up here because RUclips suggested a random chameleon video to me... I had never seen them handled much before, and wow! Very cool creatures. Thanks Trisha!! Bamba is so awesome!! Someday when I slow down I'm going to be a Chameleon tree!!

Good luck with your research! 💕
This was prob the best video advice I’ve seen. Especially the hand down because I think my long nails make my cham nervous. Thanks!
I’m going to be getting one in June, ur videos have helped me do a bunch of research and write down good info. I’m 12 and have owned other reptiles, I know it’s not a good pet for kids but I tend to get bored of things easily so I don’t like pets I have to hold and play with when I don’t want to

I’m 13 and I’m taking my teachers chameleon, I don’t want to stress him out and honestly I’m scared I won’t be a good enough owner.
i wanted to see something like this because im getting a chameleon soon so thanks for the info
Very helpful love the channel
how long can you leave your chameleon out to bond with them or just hang out with them?
Normally with me or most people, I would suggest putting them back when their belly is cold to the touch. After that they should be put back in the cage to allow them to heat up again
omg thank you this video made me and my chameleon mango buddies.=)
This really helped with my veild chameleon Valentina. Thank you!
My chameleon will literally hiss at me but as soon as I close his tank he wants to come out then he’s all over me
Getting a chameleon for christmas, thx for the vid you earned a sub
Congrats on getting your chameleon. Always do plenty of research when it come to their diet, supplements ( calcium & vitamins) & UVB light's. I definitely suggest visiting chameleon forum. Jon Gilmore Good luck with the new chameleon! I’m glad this was helpful! And thank you for your support! 💕💕💕
Jon Gilmore How exciting 🥳 They’re such cool creatures.
My veiled Randal has an attitude he doesnt like hands either but once he comes out he is pretty calm
RIP banba beautiful creature, he definitely really liked you, in fact he was trying to dominate/mate with you when you took him out!
In my praying mantis does the same thing, he acts like he doesn't want to come out, and then as soon as I move my arm he panics because he wants to come out, it cracks me up every time
Thank you so much for this vid he was so annoyed bc I went high

Dominic Rodriguez Mine is the same way. Try offering your forearm instead. It may be less intimidating. And put a bug out of reach on it to give him some motivation to go for it!
Thank you 👍🏼😁
I have NEVER seen a woman as beautiful as her
Hi can you show us your set up and how to set it up
I have a 3 month old male veiled chameleon, and we've got along just fine, but 2 weeks ago when i finished the cleaning of his terrarium, he just didnt want to come down from a plant so i picked him up. He really panicked and since then he is afraid of me.. How can i fix my relationship with him?

good advice!
how often can you hold your chameleon and how long
Since when do domestic dogs eat rabbits?😕
I was wondering, how would you transport your chameleon if you have to move a very long ways away (like a 3 hour plane trip) would that be possible or would that stress them out too much?
I definitely wouldn't do that
Yes you can transport them!! Be very careful and try to keep there transport as dark and humid as possible he will just sleep!!
Yeah mine hates my hand too
I tried to get my chameleon but she would hiss at me :c
wait can you train a chameleon do this when its not a baby?
Aladdin vibes intro 👁👄👁
My chameleon is all chilled out, he’s still young and I keep trying to pick him up but no matter how low I get my self to the ground or try feeding him. He absolutely hates it. I have no idea what do now.

I want a chameleon but they are so high maintenance and I just don't want to stress them out. This was helpful. Where did you get the tank?
I got that one from a reptile store in Chicago called curious creatures. You can get reptibreeze enclosures online too. Or you can get a 2x2x4 from zen habitats
@@reptiliangarden cool thanks
Banba has the cutest chubbiest feet 😍
There’s no harm in trying. Chameleons are so smart and learn their owners. Try offering him food and luring him out and see what happens!
Did he try to bite you??
I’m geting mine in a couple of days
Great information great video kiddo thanks
That's not tamed then unfortunately. If you have to say he views you as a tree he isn't exactly acknowledging your presence in a positive way. If he still ever hisses at you for anything, you haven't tamed him.
I really miss banba... 😔
Blessings!
How do you stop the cricket from trying to jump around in your hand? I never know how to grab them!!
Any tips?
I have a grown up Chamaeleon that I got recently how do I like let it know I’m not a threat because every time I go to feed it or add things to it’s sanctuary it puffs up and hisses at me what do I do
Put the food in your arm so it has to associate with you and eventually it will warm up to you. ( Font feed them by hand when they are new born)

Why you so freaking Cute😍🤩 #Bless for you and your camaleon.
thanks i will see how it goes
Hello I was wondering if it would be ok and leave a bowl of just Calcium powder in a bowl for my Chameleon. thank you for your time
Some of them might do a tongue dip every once in awhile but I have a little dish with some meal worms in it for my chameleon. Coat your crickets and he should be good!
@@freyachase3080 thank you i just have some calcium powder and put mealworms and I coat my crickets now and he is growing well
Hi benba u r so cute buddy.. the video is very helpful.tq ..
3:05 the opposite yoshikage kira
why it will not change color into your skin color?
Nope! Chameleons come in a certain variety of colors based on species and locale. The hues and colors can change a bit due to stress, temp, humidity, or communicating with other chameleons. They cannot change color to match their environment like everyone was told about them.
So I hand feed in different ways like on my backhand, front, and arm but you got any tips on how to not have the cricket jump off 😂
Just pinch one of the crickets back legs and hold between your fingers but like on the surface of your other back hand, if that makes sense? That’s what I do
Omg that chameleon is so perfect what breed is it omg 😭😍💖
It's a veiled chameleon
Omg i freaked out when mine started doing that shifty movement on my hand. Thought he was trying to mate😂 so hes just trying to get balanced and comfortable? He also goes bright colours when i open his enclosure and starts scratching at the door to get to me does this mean hes comfortable with me?
