Toyota needs to add the Full-Time 4WD to more models. That's a great feature to have. I had a 1994 Cherokee that had it plus Part-Time and Low. I loved that thing in the winter! It was so nice to throw it in Full-Time when encountering good/bad roads.

@@John-ny6yy Yeah gotta love those internal bump stops.. what a joke. Overheating trans with that gimmick built in trans intercooler instead of mounting a proper external one up with the radiator. 8 speed already has TSB's for throwing codes. And if you have that the remedy is to replace the entire transmission. Yet Yota won't say why? You have to be nuts to lay down big bucks for this TNGA crap. The power train may be ok for a highlander but for a heavy body on frame its under built.

Just go Land Cruiser if you’re going to spend 4Runner money. Or wait until Honda releases the 2026 Passport this spring. Passport will cost less, have a naturally aspirated V-6, and has just enough trail capability. If you’re really into rock crawling like many claim to be, get a used Jeep or used Bronco. Plenty out there now.

IMO, the LC model 250 offers less then this which does not say much. 4 runner has higher grade materials in interior and more room. The model 250 is cheaply made. Not even laminate glass. More hard plastics. You got wind noise and more noise from the motor. If ya gotta go LC pay a bit more for the GX. Personally I'd run after a used GX with the V8. Jeep is starting to have massive discounts so that might be the best option. Its the only one with good aftermarket components.

@mkyhou1160 Exactly! This is why I sold my 4Runner. I love in the mountains where the winding roads rapidly shift back and forth from bare, the snowy, to bare, to icy, to bare etc. It was a PITA to be switching in and out of 4WD and my wife kept screwing this up. I also had a neighbor that forgot to switch into 4WD on a windy road in winter and totaled their 4Runner.

@@edwindaleccio That’s great to hear they have success with that specific turbo engine. I also heard many turbo diesel engines last a long time as well. In general I would choose a naturally aspirated engine over a turbo if I had a choice. I guess proper maintenance is the key to longevity for any engine, notwithstanding any known issues or flaws in an engine design.

Nice looking suv. The old 5sp was insufficient for sure. In hills constant downshifting with revs was annoying. Probably a big change to run the old v6 with the new 8sp transmission.

5,455 lb curb weight for the trd pro models. Wild. As an ice fishermen these weights of the new Land Cruiser and this 4Runner kept me away. Otherwise looks pretty nice. I ended up choosing a Pilot Trailsport to fit my needs.

To me the main difference is the Landcruiser has full time 4WD while the 4R runs in RWD until you shift into 4WD unless you get the Limited trim.

Toyota is going to nuke their sales on suvs with these turbos and trashy interiors. Reliability is gone and their interiors just aren't competitive. Plus the hybrid battery protruding just sucks. Genuinely have 0 interest in Toyota products moving forward, and this is coming from a current lexus owner. I hate to say it, but I think Toyotas legacy dies with turbos. Their fwd based ecvt hybrids are still phenomenal, but even then they're doing max versions with a 6 speed and sandwich motor and they suck, they're clunky af. The two ecvt powertrains are the only good ones Toyota has left. Good thing they put that in the, checks notes, MAZDA CX-50. So now you can buy a cuv with a good interior and Toyotas legendary efficency power train
