I will not consider one until you take it down that powerline trail in the mud and ice. We're all waiting!
It doesn’t feel expensive, it’s very expensive.
Very well done! I like it, but I'm glad I saved 20k and picked up a 22 Pro with low miles for my wife. Maybe in a decade we'll buy one of these.
Your 22 will outlast the new ones. Overcomplicated turbo motors won't last.
@@cmiles97x38 You beat me to it. Literally the 22 will see a decade more use after the 24 is in the land fill. Facts.
Toyota needs to add the Full-Time 4WD to more models. That's a great feature to have. I had a 1994 Cherokee that had it plus Part-Time and Low. I loved that thing in the winter! It was so nice to throw it in Full-Time when encountering good/bad roads.
It’s available in the Limited.
Turbo, the death of the 4runner. I'm glad I have 4Liter. It will last a lot longer. Hope it doesn't have Tacoma transmission, I've heard they have problems.
Good looking rig just wish they would have offered a V6-no thanks on a 4-cylinder turbo pulling that big beast around
I like it … if they slapped a v6 in it I’d love it 😅
Yeah. Everyone loves anemic torque levels
V6…It’s gone for good. You’ll have to pay Lexus cash for a GX then
Doesn’t change the already problematic transmission or their now weak suspension..
@@John-ny6yy Yeah gotta love those internal bump stops.. what a joke. Overheating trans with that gimmick built in trans intercooler instead of mounting a proper external one up with the radiator. 8 speed already has TSB's for throwing codes. And if you have that the remedy is to replace the entire transmission. Yet Yota won't say why? You have to be nuts to lay down big bucks for this TNGA crap. The power train may be ok for a highlander but for a heavy body on frame its under built.
People can keep defending that poor turbo, but when you test drive this new model, it sounds like a Nissan rogue rental. Laughed my way back into my V6 runner. They sure mutilated the new runner as expected. No way a 50k vehicle should sound. What turbo nonsense of a joke.
Lol the haters kill me. They will still sell more of these than they sold at the old one last year. I guarantee it. Whether that's right or wrong, they will absolutely sell more. Just like they sold more tacomas than they did the year before and more tundras than they did the year before.
More Sequoias too last year than the year before and more than twice as much as the previous generation with the supposedly so much loved V8.
Yeah, don’t forget the recall list that has been growing as well 🤫
Damn shame they got rid of the NA V6. If they kept it, I think this update would've been worth the asking price.
Yeah they are way out of line. No thanks
Kept the v6 and changed the transmission and they would’ve had a winner. If u can afford the gas (which will soar in price in the next 4 years)
Funny days, 4Runner comes with a 3rd row seat and the supposedly real family hauler the Land Cruiser doesn’t have that option. What a weird time we live in!
My 1970 FJ55 LC doesn't have a third row either and it's the wagon SUV. 😮
Its because of the hybrid. And only the sr5 and limited trims with the i-force have a 3rd row
Toyota for sure doesn’t know what it’s doing and the kind of demographic they are trying to sell to. All the proof is right here that you described.🙈
Toyota and their price ranges are a joke lately, making the American brands look modest with their pricing
Best review from all the recent 6gen Free Toyota commercial RUclips'rs. You are more real and RELATABLE 😊
2025 and we are paying $70 grand for a V4. What a disgrace.
43K for my 2020 5th gen TRD PRO.. I feel lucky
What is a V4? Never heard of that?
@@Offshore1977 lol for real.
Open the USA to BYD with no tariffs and let’s buy good quality cars for half the price
@@Wavelover33 let’s do it
That body roll is fun on the 5th gen. I have TRD sport now and it handles great due to hydraulic suspension.
Stephen, It may not be the first thing to come to mind in a southern California test drive but up here we are in the middle of ski season. The new, more expensive 4Runner has lost the very useful 40/20/40 second row and its ability to easily carry long items like skis, fishing rods, 2X4s etc. Second row headroom has also been reduced which makes no sense whatsoever.
How dare you say my 2023 4Runner feels a bit old! Just because it hasn't been updated since 2009 it was way ahead of its time! Nah, can't say this with a straight face! 🤪🤣 Man that thing is old, but I love it though! Although I have to say I drove my Limited around the Blue Ridge Mountain roads and it was confident around the twisty road.
Excellent episode as always!!! 😁
Just go Land Cruiser if you’re going to spend 4Runner money. Or wait until Honda releases the 2026 Passport this spring. Passport will cost less, have a naturally aspirated V-6, and has just enough trail capability. If you’re really into rock crawling like many claim to be, get a used Jeep or used Bronco. Plenty out there now.
IMO, the LC model 250 offers less then this which does not say much. 4 runner has higher grade materials in interior and more room. The model 250 is cheaply made. Not even laminate glass. More hard plastics. You got wind noise and more noise from the motor. If ya gotta go LC pay a bit more for the GX. Personally I'd run after a used GX with the V8. Jeep is starting to have massive discounts so that might be the best option. Its the only one with good aftermarket components.
2026 Passport looks great.
I have a 2024 4R but may want to test drive the Honda
Wow all the youtubers are hyping the new 4runner. I guess they want to keep the corporate invites coming in.
Me: 4 cylinder turbo will kill the long term reliability that the 4runner was known for. Look at the mess under the hood compared to the well engineered and manufactured extremely reliable v6 with the plastic cover removed. Plus the price is crazy. Don't worry those that want to pose like an offroader and be the 1st will pay sticker bump to be the 1st around to have one.
Let me guess you own a 5th gen.
@@cmiles97x38 it's easy to hype a brand new car. They can't tell you the future, whether that engine or turbos or transmission will last. They are going by how it's performing right now. Remember the Tacoma they tested a few months ago...the clutch broke on a test drive. You can't call them fanboys
@@Sween77 I own a 5th gen and test drove the new one. This new gen thing sounds like a Nissan rogue rental with a drone sound that is so annoying. no way this thing should be at the price tag they are asking for. The bigger joke of all is the base model interior of this thing.😂
But luckily the 5th gen has no issues. It has great mpg and driving manners. No nose dive or body roll. It’s fast too!
Really like the looks of the 4Runner. Proportions look spot on.
Big money for a moderately equipped vehicle. Limited trim should have a heads-up display. That supersonic red looks awesome.
Looks a lot like the 4th Gen 4Runner. Once you see the "double mustache" meme it can not be un-seen. I wish they put the Tacoma front bumper on it.
Stunning 4Runner! Great video.
From the front it definitely resembles the Dodge Durango. Looks pretty good. Crazy price though!
Would love to see what the rear leg room is like, if it’s anything like the Tacoma, then it would be a no go for me. Hopefully they have a couple at the trade show we’re going to next week.
It was the oldest that's why it was such great value. Now you have to pay inflated prices for less.
I find the 5th gen 4Runner a fun around town and slower roads with motions and trucky feel. I'm sure the 6th gen is more refine.
The 4runner TRD Pro is now a competitor to the Ford Bronco Raptor.
The cargo space looks cramped. And why does the 2 row version have those side consoles eating up the space?
2024 Limited are sell for 60-62k so the 25’s are 12k more and it’s a four banger! NOPE!!!
This white 4runner is the ugliest 4runner I've ever seen.
My 5th gen looks much better.
I would like to have full time 4WD just like in Land Cruiser. Great review. Greetings
I understand you have to go Limited or Platinum for that which sucks. If you live in snowy city, switching 4 low to high all the time just to get in your garage without crabbing is a pain.
@mkyhou1160 Exactly! This is why I sold my 4Runner. I love in the mountains where the winding roads rapidly shift back and forth from bare, the snowy, to bare, to icy, to bare etc. It was a PITA to be switching in and out of 4WD and my wife kept screwing this up. I also had a neighbor that forgot to switch into 4WD on a windy road in winter and totaled their 4Runner.
AWD or fulltime 4WD is the way to go if you live anywhere with legit winters and winding roads.
You can! You just need to get a high trim
Looks like crap with that handlebar mustache
not thrilled about the boosted 4 banger. no more KDSS. lots of cheap plastic feel.stupid distracting big screen tv sticking up above the dash.
Really wanted one. But NOPE not now. I don’t buy vehicles with turbos. Bet it has problems like the one in the tundra. On to the next one for me. Thanks Toyota!
The Tundras do not have turbo issues. also, they took many percautions to prolong the turbo life like extra oil coolers and intercoolers
not even a six, forget it. The pricing is ridiculous.
Great to see this vehicle Stephen, towing requires payload. Which models have a usable payload for towing?
That 4 banger turbo, will destroy the legend.. Just like the Tacoma.. Simple, solid and reliable is gone. Toyota officially lost many of its lifelong loyal truck customers.. I’m one of them.
I own a 2001 Tacoma standard cab it's got a 150 horsepower 4-cylinder engine. I bought it brand new! It now has just over 440,000 miles on it.Heres is why I'm telling you this. Just let this sink in ! This new Tacoma and 4 runner has a more powerful engine than the out going V6 sure it has same horsepower in some packages but it's got way more torque and the hybrid has way more horsepower and torque overall. But the main issue I got with your ver immature, comment is you NOT even willing to give it a chance! If any manufacturer can make a vehicle last for a long time it's Toyota ! Or they would have not invested in this! So come on whoever you act like you got some comen sense!!!!!!!!!
@@Woodduck1234word! Good take and response.
Go buy the new one and find out. What you have and what the Tacoma is now are two different worlds. @@Woodduck1234
It’s hilarious to compare the rock solid naturally aspirated 140 hp 2.5liter of 24 yrs ago to this only engine choice 310hp over pressurized junk.
@John-ny6yy I forgot something that's even more hilarious than what you just told me. I'm also an owner of the 3rd gen 2017 off road naturally aspirated V6. And I have test driven the 2024 Tacoma and it definitely out performs my naturally aspirated V6 3rd gen Tacoma in every way! Especially that junky gear hunting problem that the 3rd gen has, along with the most uncomfortable ride setting in the cockpit.
So my 2014 FJ with the 4 liter 6 is nearly the same hp as this, and gas mileage hasn’t really improved much( I avg. 18 mpg). More tech more room for failure. I’m not impressed but willing to wait and see.
I will say I love the looks.
The high moment in automotive review history was when you turned the last gen into an icebreaker while out on the trail.
Agreed, that was awesome
That is the day he became Truck King. 👑
It’s funny because you know Toyota allowed them to use the 4Runner so they have to give positive feedback or they don’t get invited for exclusive first person use .. so this is a paid advertisement by Toyota subliminal thank you for the slander but still love your content can’t blame the player blame the game
How does this engine stack up for highway passing speeds? Will there be any power left when loaded with people and needing to pass at 100km/h
Yes, trust me. They scoot if needed!
Deff best looking. 👍🏼
In Canada you miss alot of options that were standard are gone. In sr5 cloth seat instead of soft tex no sun roof, no power seats ground clearance in reduced. Same in the sport. Trd off road 8000 more. Seems like alot more money for less features. 🤔
I really like everything about this EXCEPT... I did notice how raked and small the windshield is, and how high the dashboard sits in a new Tacoma when I sat in one at an Auto show. I left feeling disappointed with what seems like a cramped cabin. At least the Land Cruiser has a more upright windshield and a seemingly lower window line. Do you find this to be the case? How does it compare to a Land Cruiser? I like the styling better on the 4Runner (and the price!!).
Less reliable, less interior space, much more expensive.
There is actually much more interior space than the previous gen
I'd buy a Grand Cherokee L before I'd buy this 4Runner.
I think if these was 10K less on all trims everyone would be happier. I do think it’s a good bang for buck but yeah they are def taxing a little. I work with a shit ton of Toyotas. They’re great. But taxed.
1:16 regular or premium gasoline?
To me, I see that they stuck with those protruding headlights and tail lights, which I think is a flaw and I believe the Honda passport is more affordable, better riding, and toes better
It "toes" better? Nothing an alignment can't fix. Lol
I owned a passport and hated it. Other than the V6,the 4 runner looks better inside and out
Good review!
So far, none of the reviews I have seen on these have mentioned payload for any trim level.
Hi Stephan, I'm curious if the new 4runner drives and handles the same as the Tacoma? Which would you say is more on road comfortable?
I wonder how that turbo will hold up in 100 degrees off roading situation..🤔🤔🤔
me with a 5th gen kdsss equiped 4runner i dont feel any of that body roll . any idea how much itll cost to get the hybrid batteries replaced?
Like the looks, still having a hard time accepting the turbo 4 engine, HATE the 3rd row seats hope it's more of an option than standard equipment. I think it's the first time ever I have been more attracted to the base model of a vehicle than the premium models
I don’t think the third row is available with the larger hybrid engine.
Does the Hybrid lessen the turbo lag compared to the Turbo only?
Own a 24 trd off road, I am sure I would like the new power train better. But with all the problems with new toyota trucks I think I would wait a few years to purchase. Would love to see SR5 review.
Yep I have 2022 Tacoma TRD sport 4x4. Last time at my Toyota dealer for service oil change, my regular advisor said the new Tacos are having lots of recalls and issues. Definitely one should wait for refresh.
The only issues were with the v6 turbos. The trans issue everyone talks about in the tacomas are due to a software issue that has been fixed.
much improved, looks great. i would have to sit in it to make sure front seat is not too low. lots of trims is good. i think i would still prefer the v6 passport even though honda botched the full size spare, not placing outside underneath like the pilot. a turbov6 explorer tremor would be interesting, timberline name dropped i guess. grand c needs a refresh interior, better quality, and non 4xe trailhawk. if u want 4low and a locker i think this is a better family vehicle or daily driver than the bronco or wrangler. 40k trims should do well here in the states.
The Sport looks really sharp. Let's see if they have worked out the isues with the powertrain
if youre reffering to the trans issues. It has been resolved via a software update. There was no mechanical issues, just tuning.
Not sure what you’re talking about regarding the 5th gen 4Runner’s transmission. I own a 2020 TRD Pro and the 5spd shifts are super smooth with no jerking motion. I think you are way off base with your comment/opinion. This new generation 4 cylinder turbo engine will not last as long as the 4L 6 cylinder.
The longevity of the turbo 4 is still quite an unknown. I have faith that if anyone knows how to do a turbo 4 right, it's Toyota.
@ Toyota’s recent track record with the new turbo offerings doesn’t give me much confidence. Hopefully, they can turn it around and learn from their missteps.
The NX has a turbo 4 known to last well into the 200ks
@@edwindaleccio That’s great to hear they have success with that specific turbo engine. I also heard many turbo diesel engines last a long time as well. In general I would choose a naturally aspirated engine over a turbo if I had a choice. I guess proper maintenance is the key to longevity for any engine, notwithstanding any known issues or flaws in an engine design.
Will this need engine and transmission replacement after 10 k miles?
Nice looking suv. The old 5sp was insufficient for sure. In hills constant downshifting with revs was annoying. Probably a big change to run the old v6 with the new 8sp transmission.
Guy! You turned into a different dude driving the TRD Pro, LOL!
You need a follow up video taking the 4Runner thru the iced aqua channel…..”Let’s go 4Runner”
5,455 lb curb weight for the trd pro models. Wild. As an ice fishermen these weights of the new Land Cruiser and this 4Runner kept me away. Otherwise looks pretty nice. I ended up choosing a Pilot Trailsport to fit my needs.
In the beginning of the video you said you're going to get into *all the numbers* . Where is the 0 to 60 number? Why isn't anyone test driving these reporting the 0 to 60 times?
Pay more get less, toyota
The white one has the Star Wars StormTrooper look, like it or not
To me the main difference is the Landcruiser has full time 4WD while the 4R runs in RWD until you shift into 4WD unless you get the Limited trim.
I feel the headroom has decreased since they lowered the roof height.
@4:06 compact spare on a 4Runner- terrible. Off Road trims have full-size, but they all should.
I am done with Toyota and their 4cy unrefined motor, talk about talking money out of the product.
Toyota is going to nuke their sales on suvs with these turbos and trashy interiors. Reliability is gone and their interiors just aren't competitive. Plus the hybrid battery protruding just sucks. Genuinely have 0 interest in Toyota products moving forward, and this is coming from a current lexus owner. I hate to say it, but I think Toyotas legacy dies with turbos. Their fwd based ecvt hybrids are still phenomenal, but even then they're doing max versions with a 6 speed and sandwich motor and they suck, they're clunky af. The two ecvt powertrains are the only good ones Toyota has left. Good thing they put that in the, checks notes, MAZDA CX-50. So now you can buy a cuv with a good interior and Toyotas legendary efficency power train
I imagine there’s no third row with the hybrid.
These videos are standing i just don't know why there are not more subscribers. I like everything about the 4Runner except the engine choices, there needs to be a V8.
I really wish this came in a 2 door.
So out of all of the SUVs in the $60,000 range what would be your choice?
None of them.
funny how every "influencer" is pushing this thing. I'm good with the 5th gen v6. Thanks
Looks like a sport to me
What is wrong with Toyota and the double mustache on the grille. Looks worse than the Tundra. Everything else is great but won't waste the money on the hybrid.
Did they improve theft protection of 4runners ? For me, that's the main dealbreaker.
Everything is expensive, and sitting on lots forever because of it
No they are not. The new taco, LC and tundra is raking higher margins than previous years
Turbo has no boost from starting, not for climbing hills and pulling boats out of the water. Toyota is very questionable brand overall.
Toyota needs to overhaul their “performance hybrid” trucks. They add complexity and an additional 700lbs with no real world performance.
They don't look bad with the exception of the ones with the plow on the front. Personally, I don't have any use for a vehicle like this.
Land Cruiser gets AWD auto while 4Runner is 4WD Manual
This is the only new Toyota I like the looks of. Still will never part with my 5.7 Tundra, but this looks great.
I thought we were paying for Cafe credits and Toyota keeping around a reliable design
Now wtf are we paying 50k for.
I don’t want a turbo I want to get home when the truck has some miles on it
Is the turning radius better than the Tacoma? Tacoma turns like a bus.
Lol, better call Matt's towing. If that breaks down on a trail. There is no way to work on that. Funny how the simplistic engineering of the past had reliable engines and drive systems.
Still putting crap tires in these
Wish you could have done this during the rain.
More V4 JUNK.
Lost interest after hearing about the engine options...
that engine looks like an accident happened. whos gonna be able to fix that shit?
This guy must have a 5% discount code with Toyota .
97' was tge last of the real lsnd cruiser and it was around $40k. Now a 4Runner which has always been inferior to land cruiser, is costing $50k plus. I will pass.
Is it just me or is there a script for all these major channel videos? Literally every video touches on the "curved rear windows" that I've never heard a single person mention outside of the release videos.
not a fan of 4 cylinder for this big vehicle. especially for the price. my local dealership said about $5000 more than the previous generation
Once you step in the car you see why. Big leap.
