During the Late Cretaceous, a giant Tyrannosaur lumbers about looking for its next victim. It has one of the most powerful bites ever seen and outsizes nearly every predator be it on land or in the water, sounds a lot like the T. rex right? Wrong! This is Tarbosaurus!

Tyrannosaurus having a much broader skull than Tarbosaurus is actually a myth (probably based on subadult or poorly preserved Tarbosaurus specimens). In reality, Tarbosaurus had a snout about as broad as Tyrannosaurus relatively speaking but a narrower back of the skull.

Tarbosaurus is underated, essentially a smaller, sleeker version of Tyrannosaurus. The leopard to T-Rex's lion if you will.
More like Tarbosaurus being the lion to T. rex being the tiger.
@@Saberrex1difference between lions and tigers is vastly overrated
@@7reasons617 You mean highly underrated? As the General public still think that the average male African Lion is bigger than a Siberian tiger.
@@theboiwho8pasta No, overrated. Lions and tigers have a lot of parity and ironically, the Siberian hasn’t been the biggest cat in years. Most recent weight measurements put the bengal and the African male lion above it. Tigers are viewed how spino and giga was compared to Rex in the early/mid 2000s.
@@7reasons617 Ah...your a lion fanboy.

I haven’t even seen the video, but I clicked on it because the title the T-Rex’s older Asian brother is probably the best title on any RUclips video ever
I discovered the Tarbosaurus for the first time when i watched the documentary of Nigel Marven, unfortunately i didn't care much about in that time but after rewatching i seen him again in prehistoric planet make me very happy after finally see him shiny with his own distinct appearance.
Now i will just wait for the Yutyrannus
I think the good documentary’s are long gone, like Stephen fry’s one is trash and there’s like 1 every 3 years
@@SternaRegnixTube that one is horrible, like, seriously a pure nightmare. It could have been a "viable documentary" in the late 90s where beauty was the last thing in the models, but we know that's impossible 😂
you mean the movie?
@@jiyuhong5853 if it is about Tarbosaurus is the one about the therezinosaur claws, but if is the Stephen fry one then it isn't the mention, just don't watch, it's trash.
Can’t believe you discovered the tarbosaurus. Thats a huge find. It’s like what this whole video is about. And to think no one checked in that documentary smh
Edit- to be clear that was not me being douchey, I read the first 5 words of your comment and thought of a dumb joke:)
I wanna thank the camera man for having balls of steel to record these beasts up close
I remember seeing the Tarbosaurus in Zdenek Burian's book "Life before man".
It looked monumental. I later realised that the artist managed to make it look so huge by simply putting the horizon very low, but it's still epic, especially with that pose. Poor T-rex got the opposite treatment. He put the horizon line behind it's shoulders, so it appeared as it's not much taller than 2-2,5 meters (in that classic kangaroo pose). Perspectice is such an interesting artistic tool.
tarbosaurus isnt as small as many publications make it out to be,sure its average size is 8-10m...but the largest specimens could reach 40ft..or close to that...
Underrated RUclipsr, the type of channel that you’d turn adblocker off for

Absolutely loved this in-depth look at Tarbosaurus! It's a theropod that I've increasingly grown more fond of after the release of Prehistoric Planet, and this video definitely helped increase that love with some very interesting facts!
If I could recommend some other species for you to do videos about, my biggest recommendations would be the Carnotaurus, Nanuqsaurus or Steguoros!
The gobiraptor is absolutely adorable! I know I would die if I hugged it, but I still really want to! 😅
That transition to your sponsor was so damn smooth. Your are getting good at it. Good job

For a second I’d thought this would be Zhuchengtyrannus but it’s rather more different from Tyrannosaurus than Tarbosaurus would be.
I know a lot about dinosaurs, i already knew what a Tarbosaurus was but i love to learn even more about dinos, i love this channel im glad i found it

My fave Tyrannosaur by far. Love this guy
Extinct zoo already made a tarbosaurus video. Nice update to the older video
Unpopular opinion the Tarbosaurus design is even better than the Tyrannosaurus design in Prehistoric Planet. I love the dusty red coloration and the orange spots, it looks realistic resembling a leopard or a Gila monster, but is still colorful compared to the brown and tans of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
I agree, pretty sure the php rex has too large eyes and it's head is to large for it's body.

T-Rex when his Asian cousin A-Rex steps in:
One thing that may explain the eyesight between Asian and American tyrannosaurs is that places like Mongolia where more arid so seeing prey in dense vegetation wouldnt be a sought after trait since more prey wouldn't be there anyways, but in the North American floodplains it would be beneficial to have great eyesight to see in the dark and forested swamps. (Along side rex having to face ceratopsians and even bigger Hadrosaurus so eyesight woulda helped avoid horns and hooves)
When u said AZN n eyesight I thought u were going somewhere else with it!
Lol
Great video! Tarbosaurus are tailor made for a Jurassic Park sequel! An entity trying to weaponize a sleeker Rex?
I remember that in the original Carnosaur novel, the main threat was not a T.rex, but an adolescent Tarbosaurus. While the T.rex only showed up in the final segment of the book in the form of 2 hatchlings that ate Lady Penward alive.
Tarbosaurus Bataar is such an cool scientific name

Tarbosaurus from Mongolia
5:33 Biggest Tarbosaurus specimen isn't 12 meters long or neither it's comparable to T. Mcraeensies & Tyrannosaurus rex.
Biggest Tarbosaurus specimen is only 11 meters or 36 feet long & weights 5.4 tonnes.
Mcraeensies is way bigger at 12 meters or 40 feet long & weights humongous 8.8 tonnes & Tyrannosaurus rex is 12.8-13.1 meters or 42-43 feet long & weights 11.7-12.5 tonnes.
Tarbosaurus is tiny compared to them. Tarbosaurus is even smaller than Zhuchengtyrannus. Zhuchengtyrannus is the real king of Asia.
10,000 pound bite, Wow! 🦖
Just imagine if the two bred they'd likely produce the ultimate rex
