Aquatis speedrun in 58.48s (DJ saves 12 seconds)

  • A strat to beat Aquatis about 12 seconds faster using a single double jump. The cutscene is skipped initially to get the first dynamite throw quickly, then claw triggers the cutscene (to act as a checkpoint for later), but gets hit by his own dynamite to interrupt it. A double jump off of Aquatis or the above stalactites gains access to the cave behind him. This allows dynamites to be dropped on the target area at the earliest possible time (drop it after aquatis is halfway between his sixth and seventh punch). This means you don't have to wait for tentacles to die and for the dynamite throw to charge up.
    Once Aquatis is dead and the gem appears, you can end life during the gem animation, and then touch the gem without having to do another DJ to get back across. Alternatively, I think the help page can be opened for a few seconds once the gem first appears, and then when you close help the gem will stop moving at a place where you can still reach it from the cave on the right.
    This DJ is not likely to be much use in full game runs because it is very risky, is very late in the run, and does not save much time. It would only be as a last resort when you are truly desperate for time, with a perfect endgame leaving you still a few seconds behind your target pace.
    There are faster methods that include more double jumps to save a few extra seconds. The TAS will be very low on health upon arrival at aquatis, and will be underwater from superswim, but since the tentacles deal almost no damage, and the stalactites above aquatis also do almost no damage, the TAS can still do multiple DJs to save a few seconds.
