Zombiiee Buddha in a lot of interviews they said that the whole nightmare record was dedicated to the rev, every song is dedicated to him, specially this song, gates wrote it in honor to their friend. Plus the lyrics are very clear about the subject. And welcome to the family is not about literally welcoming someome to the family, it's about an adult talking to a kid (the "hey kid" line, that is almost in every line in the song) and telling him that when you're young you feel invincible, and then something happens in your life that changes it (to them, it was the rev's death) and you realize you're not as strong as you thought you were. That's when you're welcome to the family, when you mature and realize that
