  • Ultrafilters are a critical tool in most macromolecule purification workflows. They can be used to concentrate, re-buffer and in some cases fractionate protein, nucleic acid, virus or nanoparticle samples, ready for the next purification step, analysis, or storage.
In some laboratories or for field work, access to centrifuges is limited or impractical. In other cases, the high forces of centrifugal ultrafiltration can result in damage to shear-sensitive target molecules, such as enveloped viruses or large protein complexes.
Therefore, we designed Vivaspin®️ 100 ultrafilters to enable ultrafiltration under positive gas pressure. Using a regulator such as the Air Pressure Controller (order number VCA002), in combination with a pressure source, ultrafiltration can be performed quickly and conveniently, without a centrifuge.
This tutorial demonstrates the simplicity of pressurized ultrafiltration with Vivaspin®️ 100 units.
