When she begins talking about using her hands, my heart leapt. As an actor, it is always one of our major hangups, what do we do with our hands, our arms, etc. etc. We feel the worry that we have either been still for too long, or are moving too much. Those of us who were trained onstage and made the transition to film are constantly learning to tone things down, and then when we go back to stage we have to go the opposite. Some of us, not myself and not all, but some, want the director to tell us every move so that we can take the blame off of ourselves if it doesn't look right later. Like she says, some of us are HANDSY, lol.

so nice to see shepitko’s work being discussed. she was born in a town that has the most cruel fighting going on right now on the frontlines
I love the fact that I own not only almost all of the films from Criterion they mention, but both Bergman and Fellini sets they fight over.
It's always inspiring to see an actor who is also cine-literate.
Tár is a masterpiece. Hope to see in the collection soon
If I was left alone in this room with a fellow cinephile, I'd be these two. It would be "have you seen this? It's soooo good" for like 12 hours.
Omg a video with cate blanchette keep it going
Cate: "Possessed Nuns and a sadistic Sabbath", "That sounds right up my alley" - lol
With the awards she has already collected for TAR she became the most awarded actress ever in the entire film history... ( i so wish some, very few, who can't see it could transcend their narcissism...) and these awards come mainly from critic associations around the world, not HW... and on top she made it, with stage breaks, i mean lots of theatre..., and in an era where way more films are produced, where film distribution has been globalised and were very few if none of classic HW stars would have survived. its hard to imagine how serious and passionate she is for her industry while she is such a dork... if you love cinema you love actors like her. CONGRATS CATE THE GREAT! ps HAPPY NEW YEAR to ALL Film Fans/workers and actors and to all people and creatures on this planet
Wow, great closet duo. I cannot wait to see TÁR.
Always enjoyed the "Criterion Closet" videos, and now, additionally, am thankful for the list of films chosen by the guests during the end credits. Cheers!
My 11yo has started (stage) acting and I loved reading this!
"Possessed nuns.... that's right up my alley" - Cate Blanchett 2022
In the place of a standard DVD release YOU WOULD HAVE A CRITERION!!!! NOT LOW REZ BUT HIGH DEF AND RESTORED AS A NEW RELESE! EXTRA SPECIAL FEATURES THAN EVER SEEN! MORE AUDIO COMMENTARIES EVER HEARD! ALL SHALL LOVE IT AND DESPAIR!!!!
I love Cate Blanchet’s voice and accent/pronunciation, she would be perfect for making ASMR videos😀
I LOVE THIS!!!!! This is me and my friends at the movie store. Talking movie facts and nerding out! I love their passion for Cinema - my people - its beautiful!
I love this so much! I feel immediately I could watch them be fascinated with all the films and hear them talk for an hour and watch all the films they recommended. Love to see more of these!
Are you wanting to make me fall MORE in love with Cate Blanchett?
Yes yes yes 💕😂😂
Nick Nightingale!! Like his mentor, he doesn't make enough films. Can't wait to see Tár.
"Don't snatch!" LOL! I love her so much.
Now THIS is nice to see. Not acknowledging the viewer, just in the closet raving about movies with your fellow film buff. And with them talking about Cranes Are Flying and The Ascent.....I WANT to own Letters Never Sent. Grrrrrrr!!
god i love her passion and enthusiasm. its like shes 21. she has great knowledge.
Very happy to see Cate get excited for Guy Maddin. Nobody does it like him, love it.
Oh, to be in the room with Cate when she watches Haxan!
These sneak peaks into the closet always deliver! Now I know what people see when I go out with my friend Abby. She's beautiful and a bit manic while I'm the calm inside the storm. Cheers!
In Cold Blood used to run during summer weekends on network TV after the 10pm news ended. That's when I saw it as a 70s suburban kid during summer break & it was the scariest movie to me.
I got the book later as a young adult [RIP HalfPrice Books] I hope Cate got around to watching the film b/c it is a work of art. Quincy Jones score over the title sequence is A++++
Dheepan
In Cold Blood
Devil in a Blue Dress
Wooden Crosses
The Ascent
My Winnipeg
Cranes are flying
Letters never sent
Summer with Monika
Haxan
A Man Escaped
I hope Tar makes its way to the Criterion collection. A modern masterpiece.
Love how happy Todd is, and maybe how jealous Cate is, when they give him the Fellini box.
So Criterion... there's been the most wonderful recent development... it's called a tilt... and when your characters are below the frame... you just do it!!!!
"Don Cheadle's coming out as an actor (movie)." LOL! Oh boy, can't wait to watch that one... 😆
That's my dream, actually. To be handed great film box sets and/or special editions with such ease!
I could be in that room for days....
Cate and Todd speaking about films .... classic
How they share the movie’s passion is so fantastic 💐
Love her enthusiasm for Guy Maddin's MY WINNIPEG
They aren’t even paying attention to the camera. They’re just enjoying themselves 😂 I love that
Their very life is centered around pretending to not pay attention to the camera. Which, of course, is all that they are conscious of....all the time.
Absolutely agree with every Cate’s word about The Ascent. I’ve seen quite a lot of movies but don’t remember another one that works on a physical level - while watching some scenes I literally couldn’t breathe.
