Field Days are definitely a big deal when it comes to the farming and rural communities. They're sort of a Disneyland for country folk! As for that Creamota factory, featuring Sergeant Dan the Creamoata Man, as a child growing up, I often had Creamota porridge for breakfast, then Thistle Rolled Oats when I got older. Fond memories of both!

Love you video. Went to high school and did my nursing in Gore. Lived in Riversdale but also used to go to Field days which are great. Apart from the town people all the farmers from miles around go to these field days. Gore is a central town for farmers.
Had not realised that the Creamoata industry had closed. Just one little thing and it’s probably just me but find when you turn the camera real quick it plays havoc with my eyes-lol.
    Keep up the good work.

Hi Glen and Mado. My son was down at the field days. His company make farm harrows at West Melton just a short distance from Christchurch. They had a display going on there. I was scanning the background in your video just in case I saw him. Looked like a good day out. I ;like that you visit all these small towns as well as the cities to get a good overall impression of NZ

Followed you for a couple of months now. Your Kepler Track video was awesome. Te Anau is my happy place, we go there once a year for a week to chill out.

Southland - and Otago - were the richest parts of NZ in the second half of the 19thc., thanks to gold, the development of railways opening up vast areas for farming, and eventually the frozen meat trade to the UK. Gore is in about the middle of Southland, and there are still lots of successful farms all round - not that any farmer would ever acknowledge they do alright!

The military "lady" is Sgt Dan. The brand mascot Sergeant Dan the Creamoata Man made his appearance in the 1920s. Creamoata was discontinued as a product in New Zealand around 2009 when stocks ran down. The Flemings brand is now owned by a large food conglomerate.
