I love this message, I think it is the best one I've seen. And the book is so insightful, I am reading it slowly so I can learn from it and sit with my mess. The world gives us the wrong messages about our mess. Getting turned right side up is what it is all about. Not easy at all, but very hopeful. Good advice. Sound sober. But you need something to turn the rubbish the pain the humiliation the cross into a power and a grace. You need to know how to redeem it all. That’s the key for me. It works. In the little book of stories about St Francis (the legends I think it’s called) he was asked what is joy. His answer is not of this world. John Piper a theologian and famous Calvinist pastor was struck by what he read. It binds us to the supernatural in our own lives. We become strong because the troubles the torment the sadness etc gets distilled into another sign of contradiction. Life becomes redemptive not a disappointment which it becomes for so many. Learn about redemptive suffering. It is the art of the inner life. Thank you Matthew.

#2. Everyone is going to hurt you and #6. Ignore your critics. Those were the ones that stuck out to me. Thank you for stating those things, Matthew. I thought I was being too hard on myself when I think of #2, but as you said, you have to pick the ones that are worth suffering around and also, we can hurt people (even if it's not intentional). #6 made me think that I was being close-minded, but it's good to know that it is healthy to not pay attention to those who criticize you.
