    • @jimbanda
      @jimbanda Год назад +14

      Pretty accurate, he has always been the same, would pop up on the chatty Sat & Sun radio shows, loving the fawning attention of Marion (RIP) or John Ryan or other partisan luviee hacks , mouthing off about every gov department except his own . He would squirm if they accidentally questioned his area.
      But now we have the Three Stooges and the likes of (one example) Michael Ring style TD's , bellowing down in Mayo to the plebs about the turf cutting ban , but rushing back to Dublin to vote for it and enjoy the kind of highlights that TD's can experience in Dublin while away from the peasants.
      I do agree with you on the "GET OUT OF HERE " advice, but recently I am encountering those age brackets saying precisely that, and yet they don't blame gov or woke agendas or neo liberal gobshites , they seem to think it's some hidden hand of doom that is shunting them out of the country.
      If Ireland Inc were on the Titanic , they would be the lads in the lounge smoking the biggest cigars , laughing at plebs running for their lives and Michael Martin chuckling "just wait it will bounce back up shortly" , Leo on the wireless getting his say in first, and the sneaky Eamonn Ryan would have pushed some oul wan off a lifeboat and jumped in with a big fox fur hiding his face.
      Shin Fein would not have travelled on it at all, they would be on the SS California .
      I'm leaving soon myself in my mid fifties , sick of it all.

      I agree that the government wants us turning on one another but at the same time how can we keep taking in refugees if we have no where to put them. It's wrong to tell anybody seeking refugee that they'll be looked after in ireland if they won't be. I believe our government cares more about housing refugees as it'll reflect badly on them globally if they can't. Thats why Irish people get overlooked. He speaks softly and pleasantly but he is the one who privatised the provision of rented accommodation. He is the one who stopped building council housing. His party was part of selling off the thousands upon thousands of surplus houses that we had after the crash, to vulture funds at ten thousand euro each. Houses that are now being rented out at a minimum of eighteen thousand euro for a single year. Meaning that the vulture funds and private investors are making profits of fifty percent. These funds have received profits that have payed for these properties eight to ten times over and most of the rent money paid to these funds is paid by the government as rent subsidies.

    The government in power 11 years show no empathy or imagination how to help families in homeless shelters or hotels or on long council list. Many families are waiting 10 or more years . A government who continously deny, 60.000 plus, on council waiting lists around tge country. These waiting list can identify peoples, who are renting homes that in many case Dail TD's, are themselves are t6he landlords. These along with other landlords are charging rent on par with a mortgage repayment. Yet many renters are denied a mortgage by the central bank. We do not want the 2008 bubble, that this very government denied was happening, until the banks fsiled by incompetent currupt bankers, poor government governance and FRAUD on a scale, it nearly BANKRUPT our country. We the low or middle income earners, are still paying FOR that INCOMPETENCE in a 3 party government. It was on their watch, their lack of oversight, we will continue pay for the theft of 64billion. We are now pay for the panademic that companies are price gouging, yet what is government doing Give our pensioners €12 per week, to the already over priced
    The government needs to stop these priced gouging companies. Give a couple of extra € extra for fuel allowance that has been eaten up by the first couple of price increases on electricity & gas as well as home heating oil, with more to come,that keep them happy. Goverment pays a small fortune in rent supports nearly €30 million plus last year, yet refuse to build affordable homes or council owned homes. This government continue to deny homelessness children their basic human rights of a secure home. They do not want to know the damage to their sense of self worth children living with homelessness has. Or. how damaging psychology, it is on children without a home. They deny middle-class or even the elderly a home. Yet they promote building homes that are priced out of the ordinary workers income limits. Try buyng a home on €35-40.000, the realistic average wage, Yet monthly rents in many cases cost the same as a mortgage. We are bring in RIGHTLY SO, our share of emigrated families from Ukraine,. Being realistic here, where are the homes for these families and many others in asylum reception centres aroundthe country,. Where do they go? We need council owned homes on the scale to those built after the 2 world war, to free up the lack of homes for those that can afford to purchase one.

    The solution is not simply supply. The Government had have continually driven an investor/speculator & developer led housing strategy and policies that are designed to benefit the investor, developers and banks without addressing "affordability" of housing to "purchase" and "own" or to rent. Prices are now above123% above a trough reached in 2013 when Ireland was emerging from an international bailout, Between 2004 and 2019, the number of 25 to 34 year olds who own their own home has halved. They are now trapped in a rental economy where rents are over €2,000 a month. It's very similar to when the market crashed.' The State could have implemented a housing strategy and policies post 2008 to become a mortgage-providing force, to help those otherwise unable to get onto the ladder as part of the bail-out and restructuring. Rather than changing our housing system to provide affordable homes, all you did was reboot the economy for the banks, developers, landlords and investors. You have collectively failed and sacrificed a generation's hope for a home. What we need is competent leadership with joined up thinking who serve the people rather than self-interested career politicians. The record and performance of this Government speaks for itself and not for ordinary people working middle class people being driven into poverty.
