After jump school I was assigned to a pathfinder company where my "cherry jump", first jump out of jump school, was a water jump from a Blackhawk. First water jump and first chopper jump at the same time! My comrades made me do a ton push ups before and after and someone had made a shark fin from cardboard and taped it to the top of my helmet (sky shark, a newbie who doesn't yet know how to steer a chute). That was around 30 years ago and I still look back on those days and smile. Cco 509th Pathfinders, Ft. Rucker, AL, USA.

The song "Impi", by Johnny Clegg Johnny Clegg's song "Impi" is about the Battle of Isandlwana in 1879. It was a battle in the Anglo-Zulu War in which King Cetshwayo's Zulu army wiped out a British force of 1,400 men on 22 January 1879, and lost 2,000 of his own soldiers. This battle was one of the worst defeats suffered by the British army during the Victorian era. www.southafricaholiday.org.uk/history/hist/_isandlwana_htm Lord Chelmsford was commander of the British forces during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. pipl.com/directory/people/Lord/Chelmsford Lyrics of the song “Impi” by Johnny Clegg: Chorus: Impi! Wo, nans' impi iyeza Obani bengathinta amabhubesi? All along the river Chelmsford's army lay asleep Come to crush the children of Mageba Come to exact the Realm's price for peace And in the morning as they saddled up to ride Their eyes shone with the fire and the steel The general told them of the task that lay ahead To bring the People of the Sky to heel Chorus Mud and sweat on polished leather Warm rain seeping to the bone They rode through the season's wet weather Straining for a glimpse of the foe Hopeless battalion destined to die Broken by the benders of kings Vainglorious general and Victorian pride Would cost him and eight hundred men their lives Chorus They came to the side of the mountain Scouts rode out to spy the land Even as the Realm's soldiers lay resting Mageba's forces were soon at hand And by the evening the vultures were wheeling Above the ruins where the fallen lay An ancient song as old as the ashes Echoed as Mageba's warriors marched away Chorus A translation of the lines in isiZulu: Zulu army! I was under the misunderstanding that the only parachute regiment was "Een Valskerm Battalion" in the SADF. This one says 44 Parachute Regiment. So is there two parachute operations in Bloemfontein?
Hi, the Battalion falls under the hierarchy of the Regiment. Under the regiment is also the reserve force units as well as the air supply etc. It is the same hierarchy as a section under a platoon, as a company, as a battalion, etc

Lyrics of the song “Impi” by Johnny Clegg:
Chorus:
Impi! Wo, nans' impi iyeza
Obani bengathinta amabhubesi?
All along the river Chelmsford's army lay asleep
Come to crush the children of Mageba
Come to exact the Realm's price for peace
And in the morning as they saddled up to ride
Their eyes shone with the fire and the steel
The general told them of the task that lay ahead
To bring the People of the Sky to heel
Chorus
Mud and sweat on polished leather
Warm rain seeping to the bone
They rode through the season's wet weather
Straining for a glimpse of the foe
Hopeless battalion destined to die
Broken by the benders of kings
Vainglorious general and Victorian pride
Would cost him and eight hundred men their lives
Chorus
They came to the side of the mountain
Scouts rode out to spy the land
Even as the Realm's soldiers lay resting
Mageba's forces were soon at hand
And by the evening the vultures were wheeling
Above the ruins where the fallen lay
An ancient song as old as the ashes
Echoed as Mageba's warriors marched away
Chorus
