If "Gabe" is what IMDB calls the "Chief Henchman" then he's Kenne Duncan, usually a cowboy or gunslinger and "star" of a number of Ed Wood films, including Night of the Ghouls (where he wears another turban).

I watched the series about 12 years ago, while finding superhero movies that were kid-friendly. I didn't expect Captain Marvel to shoot people in the back! But it wasn't traumatising, because silly. And for 1941 -- we had low expectations -- it was pretty good. Unfortunately, Republic shamelessly recycled scripts for serials we watched later. You had to ignore -- with great patience -- the recycled scenarios until the unique hero bits came up. It was ridiculous how many times the villain was a hooded middle-aged guy lounging around in a posh office with an adjacent science lab.

Yeah, there was that period where violence was kind of explicit, with batman just straight up shooting people. Then movies and comics both had codes that prohibited showing people getting shot directly, which didn't change until the sixties. I think it was because everyone saw enough violence in WWII.

Aw, they missed a good one, early on: Billy says "What's that, Mr. Howell?" (hearing a rhythmic gong), and someone should have said "Shut up, Gilligan".

Still say Captain Marvel is one of the better serials. It was a lot of fun. Did you know that this is the only media project allowed to use "Captain Marvel" as the title? Since the birth of Marvel Comics, all adaptations must use SHAZAM! Of course, DC effectively gave up the rights to use Captain Marvel, even though they STILL have no idea what to call their character.
This was also the first time they figured out how to make a man fly. Republic couldn't figure out how to do it when they had the rights to Superman without risking injury to their actor, so they gave up the rights. Later, of course, Columbia got the rights to Superman, and resorted to animation. Which is exactly what we do today, except ours are CGI -- and the serial's effects were more believable!!

hell say what you will about this but at leas captain marvel isn't even a quarter as shclubby as batman was in those other serial and actually seems somewhat competent in his fighting well i guess anything's better over a pudgy guy in bat pajamas fighting like an drunk XD
