I agree with 98% of your theory. The only thing I would tweak is that, in purgatory, the other spirits are not there. They only appear to be there because it’s William’s purgatory. He sees the images of these characters continuously haunting and killing him. I think Golden Freddy’s spirit is released at the lake, but I think William is still trapped in Golden Freddy. That is why we see Golden Freddy twitching like Spring Trap did. Afton is left in the Golden Freddy suit, trapped in his own purgatory, while the last of the victim’s souls is released (Golden Freddy).

Though I saw another comment suggesting that there are two endings, one that shows mercy to Afton (with Golden Freddy letting himself rest) and one that shows revenge (with Golden Freddy simply letting Afton know he's the one pulling the strings before revealing the character select screen once more, showing that the nightmare hasn't ended, even when Afton defeats the biggest challenge he can). I like both your idea and that which the other comment stated. Not sure which i like more. Edit: I'd also like to add on that the piano stings in that final cutscene give off a feeling of extreme hopelessness, as if the music is saying "No... I did it... I beat the hardest thing I could... and the nightmare isn't over?". Go ahead, look up and watch that cutscene again, and pay attention to what emotions the music is probably trying to communicate.

Yet we showed William how to escape. We are responsible for golden freddy failing to make him suffer forever.
I had a similar thought. The image of a struggling golden Freddy makes me think of a spirit that's trapped. What if the spirit that's trapped is William Afton? What if Golden Freddy was great. But left William trapped in Golden Freddy, who can't move because he's in 'suit mode'. Wlliam does not have the same level of control the original sprit did and so he is trapped forever.

I am remade, but not by you. By the one you should not have killed. This sounds like William Afton murdered MULTIPLE kids, which could be possible, due to the Funtimes being lure devices and also the multiple purple guys in those death minigames in FNAF 2. My other theory is that, when the pizzaria burned, that is what that noise is. William is screaming at henry and michael, which is sort of the same thing. But thats just a theory.
Springtrap and scraptrap being in the game means nothing to who we play as because whoever was scraptrap was burned in fnaf 6 and whether william was spring then then scrap or not the person who is burned in that fire is in this game. Micheal and William both died in the fire too.

My theory on "The one you should not have killed" is that: Based on Nightmare Fredbear's lines, it's clear that he is talking about Crying child. (FNaF 4) Some other characters line’s prove that they could have been part of his memory and that they are actually trying to protect him. So the “one you should not have killed” could be Crying Child, which could be Golden Freddy.

No, that spirit is the vengeful spirit you can find it from the voice actors of FNaF, the spirit possesses golden Freddy, a girl who you see in a mini game, if you read the silver eyes book? Or fourth closet there is a name it’s Cassidy, the one William shouldn’t have killed and is keeping him in a personal hell but golden Freddy is seen twitching if you beat ultimate custom night because she won’t let go of her spirit and everything you play your making it her hell.
Great theory Dawko, I really enjoyed it, but there is one alternative answer to the part with Old Man Consequences. That scene could take place before UCN. Old Man Consequences could be telling Golden Freddy to rest his own soul and Golden Freddy might not want to. Then he proceeds do what he always does, glitches (through the pond) and causes the game to crash. Then the final cut scene with Golden Freddy could be him, after he is satisfied with the punishment, being put to rest.

How are all the non-possessed characters from FFPS attacking you? There were never any children in Nedd Bear or Rockstar Bonnie or Nightmarrionne . I think the fact Golden Freddy's spirit could create a whole small pocket dimension to torment Afton allows for creation of animatronics and 'NPCs' in that dimension. Also, why do Withered Chica and Bonnie have voices but the original versions don't? Because the withereds are the spirits, but the originals are creations of Golden Freddy, composed of figments of Aton's memories, and Golden Freddy's vengance. They can only inhabit one character. The Springtraps are the same.

To me, Afton's quote sounds so distorted but I can make out a phrase sentence: *I HATE HENRY* *MIKE* *HELP* *MIKE* *AHHHHH* *MIKE HELP ME* This basically depicts how much Afton hates Henry for leaving him trapped in the corridors, and then burning him down, bringing him to this hellhole created by Golden Freddy. He relies on Michael Afton (who is nicknamed Mike) to save him, and calls out for help so that he at least undoes his actions and takes him out. Pretty dark if you ask me.

When I first saw him twitching like that, I felt like it was with Springtrap - that maybe Golden Freddy was still not free. But since he fades away, it makes sense that he is now at peace. Can’t you see this is a spring failure at the end of the game.When you win the game at 50/20 mode golden Freddy shows him what he did. The killer of Freddy didn’t even know he killed golden Freddy, but he was killed by his creation.
Going into a more biblical standpoint I believe your William in Hell and the animatronics attacking you are meant to be his past sins, demons conjuring up forms of what William has plagued the world with and torturing him with their very appearance and existence. William going to purgatory doesn't make since, with all the children he has killed he is too rotten of a person to go to purgatory for hell should be much worse and much more of a better punishment. EDIT: Also Jack-o-chica kind of represents hellfire. smaller detail but still.
You have to remember that the theory includes the fact that Golden Freddy can control where William Afton goes. Golden Freddy can force William Afton into a purgatory that might not be the "actual" purgatory and is more a way that Golden Freddy trapped William's spirit. While William's spirit is being held by Golden Freddy, Golden Freddy can then choose what he can put William's spirit through.
Then how do you explain the Afton animatronic? It is a representation/force created by Golden Freddy to show him how his bad deeds have tortured others. “I always come back” is him saying that his bad deeds will always haunt him. They will come back and punish him.

Not anymore“ > The one that the puppets spirit would recognize AND be afraid of is obviously Willam. But as we know Mike looks just like Willam. Means the Puppet could have mistaken him. I think that it doesnt really matters rather the player has seen the nightmares since this whole thing seems to be created by someone else for William/Mike. And I agree the Puppet could know when its Mike instead of William. Oh and Springtrap and Afton are two Characters in the game for the same reason that baby and scrab baby are two characters. This is more like a dream/afterlife/hell for the player. Means that the fact that he is experiencing this is canon but of course this whole thing means just as much to the real game world as a dream.

It likely looks like the "suit" is exploding/inploding, setting the child free. Also, the fade in the dark means that the suit has been left, the child has gone to heaven, Freddy Fazbear's tragedies has ended...
If Golden Freddy finally frees his soul why would he look to be suffering that much in that cutscene ? You get that cutscene by playing this game for an eternity to get 9800 points, like if you were never going to stop, whereas when you enter the lake the game simply crashes and stop. I believe Scott would have liked 50/20 to be impossible so that people would keep playing the game forever and never be freed from Golden Freddy's nightmare

My theory on "The one you should not have killed" is that:
Based on Nightmare Fredbear's lines, it's clear that he is talking about Crying child. (FNaF 4)
Some other characters line’s prove that they could have been part of his memory and that they are actually trying to protect him.
So the “one you should not have killed” could be Crying Child, which could be Golden Freddy.

No, that spirit is the vengeful spirit you can find it from the voice actors of FNaF, the spirit possesses golden Freddy, a girl who you see in a mini game, if you read the silver eyes book? Or fourth closet there is a name it’s Cassidy, the one William shouldn’t have killed and is keeping him in a personal hell but golden Freddy is seen twitching if you beat ultimate custom night because she won’t let go of her spirit and everything you play your making it her hell.
Great theory Dawko, I really enjoyed it, but there is one alternative answer to the part with Old Man Consequences. That scene could take place before UCN. Old Man Consequences could be telling Golden Freddy to rest his own soul and Golden Freddy might not want to. Then he proceeds do what he always does, glitches (through the pond) and causes the game to crash. Then the final cut scene with Golden Freddy could be him, after he is satisfied with the punishment, being put to rest.

My theory that we're playing as Michael Afton not William like other people assume, first of all springtrap and scarptrap are present in UCN so why tf scarptrap and springtrap are trying to kill themselves, it doesn't make any sense unless we're playing as Michael who his father tried to kill him twice in fanf 3 and fanf 6, Secondly one of Baby voice line says ''want to see the scooping room'' Which of course means that Michael is the one who went to the scooping room and got scooped by baby or ennard in Fnaf SL, lastly Michael is stuck in the prison with the others because he killed the one he shouldn't have kill and might be related to the sixth grave in Fnaf 6 and the grave doesn't belong to the puppet because we know that her body is still in lefty which means that no one found the the body of Henry's daughter and come on people get real in all fnaf games we're playing as Michael Afton so it wouldn't be surprise if we're playing as him, it's Michael story just like matpad said seven games one story. How are all the non-possessed characters from FFPS attacking you? There were never any children in Nedd Bear or Rockstar Bonnie or Nightmarrionne . I think the fact Golden Freddy's spirit could create a whole small pocket dimension to torment Afton allows for creation of animatronics and 'NPCs' in that dimension. Also, why do Withered Chica and Bonnie have voices but the original versions don't? Because the withereds are the spirits, but the originals are creations of Golden Freddy, composed of figments of Aton's memories, and Golden Freddy's vengance. They can only inhabit one character. The Springtraps are the same.

Going into a more biblical standpoint I believe your William in Hell and the animatronics attacking you are meant to be his past sins, demons conjuring up forms of what William has plagued the world with and torturing him with their very appearance and existence. William going to purgatory doesn't make since, with all the children he has killed he is too rotten of a person to go to purgatory for hell should be much worse and much more of a better punishment.

You have to remember that the theory includes the fact that Golden Freddy can control where William Afton goes. Golden Freddy can force William Afton into a purgatory that might not be the "actual" purgatory and is more a way that Golden Freddy trapped William's spirit. While William's spirit is being held by Golden Freddy, Golden Freddy can then choose what he can put William's spirit through.

I agree that its either Mike or William. I think the voicelines of the Puppet really pins is down to these two options:

I think that it doesnt really matters rather the player has seen the nightmares since this whole thing seems to be created by someone else for William/Mike. And I agree the Puppet could know when its Mike instead of William.
Oh and Springtrap and Afton are two Characters in the game for the same reason that baby and scrab baby are two characters. This is more like a dream/afterlife/hell for the player. Means that the fact that he is experiencing this is canon but of course this whole thing means just as much to the real game world as a dream.

This is a good theory but I don't know if the final cutscene is Golden Freddy at rest... He looks more restless like he's trapped.
I agree completely, I think him being all alone in the dark shows that he is all alone in his pursuit of revenge and every spirit has left this revenge comanded by him and in the end he's the only one left, still restless for revenge.
It likely looks like the "suit" is exploding/inploding, setting the child free.
Also, the fade in the dark means that the suit has been left, the child has gone to heaven, Freddy Fazbear's tragedies has ended...
