  • This week Plant Lovers a look at a beautiful naturally occurring hybrid between two native Australian terrestrial orchids: Diuris pardina X Diuris behrii. Incredibly easy for me to grow; literally stick it in a pot, put it outside and BINGO! The fabulous flower and ease of growing and potential for clumping and forming great specimens quite quickly means I MIGHT have to investigate getting more of these terrestrial orchids! And where ever you are there will be native species that will do well in pot culture, find a local specialist who propagates them or through a local orchid group. (Very important to not be supporting wild collecting of plants in any way!) And there are versions of these deciduous terrestrial species all over the world so there will surely be some that will work in your climate. I find in addition to native Australian species, African & Mediterranean species do really well for me in my climate.
The seller I brought this bulb from is on Ebay in Australia and he propagates from seed: www.ebay.com.a... He will only have plants for sale while they're dormant so mostly in winter. There is nothing listed at the moment.
I made a video about the terrestrial orchid Stenoglottis longifolia from South Africa which has similar habits here: • How to grow the fabulo...
And this is the video where I mention using clay (!) as part of the potting mix: • What do I pot my orchi...
