I have been keeping three mother plants around for a couple years. Here is what I have found works well for me. I put them in small pots. I want them to run out of space and stop getting bigger. I top them often, more branches are better to clone with and it keeps the mothers short. I find it is best to make some clones and start a new mother plant than keep one around and chop it off like that. You way does work too but you end up with woody branches that a clone poorly. I have also made clones, then sent the old mother off to flower. Woo... only 12 more to 1K!

Looks great, but you need more calories in your diet, getting way too skinny. A touch of weight lifting would not hurt either.
