As well as my brush with a charity scam as a nine year old, I had a problem with Children in Need. Every child in my class of 10/11 year olds was going on school journey for a week except one. He and his mum were genuine asylum seekers, living in one tiny room in a run down hostel and, in those days such people got coupons for food and school clothes. They got no cash. I approached Children in Need on his behalf and he was turned down flat with no appeal. You’re right Neil ! He stole the credit from Midge Ure for the Band Aid song Feed The World. Midge is too humble to make a big fuss. Sir Bob is hardly a saint even though he thinks he is. Excellent Work Neil ! xx
He even screwed Midge when it came to Band Aid, putting him on stage at the point which he knew would be overshadowed by other parts of the proceedings.
@@luckybag6814 I heard that too ! He’s jealous of Midge’s musicality. Midge even said as a side comment that when they were working on Do They Know it’s Christmas that Bob wasn’t too clever with writing a good melody. Midge is too nice and he’s still visiting Ethiopia.
As kids we collected milk tops and tin foil for charities in Africa to dig wells for clean water! ...Sixty years later they want " just £3 a month" for the same thing. How f%$#=×g long does it take to dig a hole?.
My brother was in the merchant navy in the 70s and 80s and he told me that around the time of Band Aid/Live Aid his ship was calling into ports in Ethiopia and there were crates in the dockside with the Live Aid logo on them. It was common knowledge that the grain was being sold by corrupt officials who were pocketing the money, or taken by local warlords or being left to rot and be eaten by rats and mice. Geldof, sitting in his ivory tower, has always refused to accept these accounts, but his vanity project was ultimately for nothing - it didn't help the people it was meant for, and simply lined the pockets of the corrupt officials. Glad to say I never donated a penny to Band Aid/Live Aid.
I only give to small local charities and definitely not any that are televised! I always gave to lifeboat’s but not anymore as they are just a taxi service for illegals here in the South. I give to the Air Ambulance as they saved my husbands life and the Hospice both local.
Never been a fan of Geldof. I remember him on a Thames Boat telling us all how stupid we were to vote for Brexit. With his millions it was never going to affect him. The arrogance of wealthy celebrities who think they can tell us, the great unwashed public, how to vote never ceases to amaze me. Do they really think we care what they think? Unbelievable stupidity.
Yet OUR Government still give overseas aid to Pakistan - who have a SPACE PROGRAMME!!! What a waste of money - they should use that money to FEED their own poor people rather than blast rockets into the atmosphere for no reason whatsoever!! The amount of money that has been wasted on stupid space programmes is astounding - so what if man HAS landed on the moon [debatable] - what good has that done anyone?
I think we have all become a lot more cynical in giving to charities these days. It doesn’t go down well when all the CEOs are multi millionaires and a tiny percentage (if that) goes to the actual people your giving to in good faith. I’d rather support local small charities now where I can see where my money goes. I’m not in the market to turn millionaires into billionaires
Agree with you. We’ve found a local school in a deprived area with a Headteacher we trust and that’s where we donate. She knows the children, what their family life is like and what they need.
I agree. I want to SEE where the money I donate is being spent. All these 'big charities have CEOs on the high end of 6 figure salaries for doing nothing. Their collecting and fundraising is done by volunteers who get nothing for the work they do.
I met Midge Ure a few years before Live Aid, he was very pleasant and polite, he didn’t really get any credit for the event Geldolf was given all the glory.
Geldof blagged me out of a fiver in '85. I've regretted it ever since. Complete charlatan. Nothing has changed in Africa except there's a lot more of them here.
I used to donate to a certain charity by monthly direct debit until ot was publised how much the CEO's salary was a ridiculous amount i cancelled immediately
Can't help feeling BA has been Geldof's cash-cow for decades. The fact he's still in the public eye 40 years after a very short-lived, mediocre career, speaks volumes. As does the fact that his personal wealth is, allegedly, well in excess of £100m.
I stopped Years Ago , I felt a pang of guilt for a while but soon realised I was doing the right thing when I saw the big boss of a well known charity pull up in a brand new Mercedes Benz, they are not charities they are companies being paid large annual salaries, I’ll buy a homeless person a hot drink and something warm to eat in a heartbeat, at least I know where my money has gone. Love and peace everyone.

I refuse to give any money to the big charities, because they use it for their staff wages and pensions also money for the CEO with salary and big pension fund.
Please can you explain why? I have always donated heaps of stuff to my local charity shop so would find it helpful if you could please explain your comment.
I don’t give to any Charities until I have investigated them fully and found out exactly where the money is going and what the CEO and others salaries are.
It's been a while since I put money in the tin but I LOVE retail therapy in thrift shops. I buy books, clothes, collectables, glass and china and cooking utensils at knockdown prices at the same time as donating hundreds of pounds a year to charity. Everyone's a winner.
It has always been my understanding that the original Band Aid was put together by Midge Ure, and that Geldof was only the frontman, dealing with the media, although that didn't stop him from basking in all the credit!
I think we should all give what we would have given.......to the RSPCA.......the thought of what’s happening there is heartbreaking........I was a young wife and Mother at the time of Band Aid, and sent what I could afford, and a lot of what I couldn’t to the charity with love and compassion.......over the years, and especially in the last couple, I’ve discovered exactly what Britain means to the people we were helping.......so any thing I have now, I will be probably giving direct to the places it needs to be......and that’s with the animals who suffer silently in what’s left of our country, and stuff you Mr Geldoff.

So after all the money that has been given to all these Geldof charities, has it stopped anything in africa at all? The answer is no, people are still dying of hunger and thirst there is still as much war going on, there has been billions in charty sent to africa and from what I can see it has done very little.
We fed them 40 years ago, we're still feeding them now. Where has the money gone? Until they stop having endless civil wars between themselves whilst their people go hungry, I'm not giving the a penny.

At junior school in the sixties we were asked to sell pictures from little booklets called "Sunny Smiles." This was supposedly to help African children - we were in dire poverty ourselves. All these decades later they're still at it!

The only charities I donate to these days are those that are within the immediate area I live in, and who are completely open and honest about where the money is going 🇳🇿

I only give to local charities now, one in particular because without them children who are very poorly would have nowhere to go. Also adults in their last days.
Charity🤔 apart from our Veterans. Charity starts at your front door, like paying your heating bill etc. You get sick of these charity’s banging on for your money, then you have the UK government giving away Billions of pounds of tax payers money to foreign aid. Think I’ll keep hold of the little money I have thanks.
I only donate to the people and projects in my own community. This past summer, a small business owner got cancer, then she had her daughter run over and killed by a car. Weeks later, she passed also. The community lifted up the family and it was beautiful.
Sir Bob is all about giving, as long as it involves digging into your pockets rather than his own. Anyone remember his sneering attitude towards the fishermen who supported Brexit? A real champion of the people is Bob.
The 'money' raised then and any 'money' raised now doesn't make a difference. I think what it highlights is people in Britain have so much money they send it to Africa. So, people from Africa come here (first class dinghy obviously) and don't even have to queue for their African hand outs, we're seemingly falling over ourselves to donate, donate, donate! Notice who the people in the queue for food banks are? Our sick and elderly!! 😠😠😠😠😠
It was of it’s time. Now, it’s time for Africa to help us. Are they going to create a single “ the elderly are cold at Christmas” and donate the proceeds to the uk.
Good Morning Neil and all others 👋👋👋. Those famous and super talented musicians gave their names, time and talent to help real people....sadly Geldorf stood between them and the needy. The majority of that money ended up in the pocket of a thief....it was syphoned into his accounts. Old Bob looks like a cobbled together 'guy fawkes' because of his debauched lifestyle! I wouldn't give a penny to any cause he's 'headlining'!
The poor people of Africa didn't need millions thrown at them (I'm sure most of the money made it's way into corrupt officials pockets) but they need a change of government due to the scale of corruption.
I stop donating to any charity for over a decade for the reasons that the money doesn’t go to the cause instead to the pockets of the greedy who run the charity.
This charity record is rather irrelevant as half of Africa is now in the UK!

I looked up Albert Steptoe and I definitely agree. 😂
WE GIVE FAR TOO MUCH MONEY AWAY TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES AND SPEND FAR TOO MUCH ON FOREIGNERS IN OUR COUNTRY. ILL BE DAMNED IF I GIVE ANOTHER PENNY TO THEM, ITS GOING ON MY PEOPLE AND I PERSONALLY HAND IT TO THEM.
Amen !
Me too, these charities are just scams what play on people's heartstrings!😱
You’re right Neil ! He stole the credit from Midge Ure for the Band Aid song Feed The World. Midge is too humble to make a big fuss. Sir Bob is hardly a saint even though he thinks he is. Excellent Work Neil ! xx
Alice..I've not seen Joan's messages for a few days...have you 🤔 OR am I just missing her 🤔 Kath....Yorkshire England
@ I haven’t either !
Bob Geldof appears to have done very well for himself out of other people’s misery.
Feed the World & We are still doing it 40 years later 🤔
As kids we collected milk tops and tin foil for charities in Africa to dig wells for clean water! ...Sixty years later they want " just £3 a month" for the same thing. How f%$#=×g long does it take to dig a hole?.
😂😂😂😂😂
If, by some miracle the donations were actually spent on a well, the locals swiftly steal the pipes and pumps to sell on. It's a never ending con.
I stopped donating to charities years ago.
His own pocket wasn't hungry either, you can't tell me he wasn't benefiting on one crap song all those years ago..
Feed the pensioners and buy them a blanket instead charity starts at home.
I only give to small local charities and definitely not any that are televised! I always gave to lifeboat’s but not anymore as they are just a taxi service for illegals here in the South.
I give to the Air Ambulance as they saved my husbands life and the Hospice both local.
Yes, im doing the same
Never been a fan of Geldof.
If he he wants to live in the EU, he is free to piss off back to the bogs.
I'm not keen on Geldof either. But 8 years on it turns out he was right about Brexit.
Charity Begins At Home … My Home …. Stopped giving to charities years ago … especially the charities collecting for overseas appeals.
👍
Agree with you. We’ve found a local school in a deprived area with a Headteacher we trust and that’s where we donate. She knows the children, what their family life is like and what they need.
Same with R.B.L. They keep 84 million in the bank to feed the top dogs of the interest. :(
@@susannewton3757😊
I agree. I want to SEE where the money I donate is being spent. All these 'big charities have CEOs on the high end of 6 figure salaries for doing nothing. Their collecting and fundraising is done by volunteers who get nothing for the work they do.
Can you investigate more on where the money went?
I stopped giving to these so called "charities" years ago, especially Children in Need, Oxfam, RNLI, British Legion and the Red Cross.
Finally.. I've been banging this drum about greedy Geldof for decades....
Me to 😊
I used to donate to a certain charity by monthly direct debit until ot was publised how much the CEO's salary was a ridiculous amount i cancelled immediately
same here
Bob the knob, hes been that for decades
If there was a donation for contraception, I'd donate.
Can't help feeling BA has been Geldof's cash-cow for decades. The fact he's still in the public eye 40 years after a very short-lived, mediocre career, speaks volumes. As does the fact that his personal wealth is, allegedly, well in excess of £100m.
The brit vets and homeless should come first, start a genuine charity for them first instead of sending money overseas!🙄🏴🇬🇧
ALL THAT MONEY RAISED !!! WOTS CHANGED ! NOTHING 🤣🤣🤣
They all spent the money on dinghies and came to the UK
@@chriscoburn6614 there is 150 million starving now rather than 40 million as they got fed and were able to reproduce..
We can no longer trust they are homeless due to scammers being found out. What a world.
@@Marth281 I had a mate who used to do a lot of driving and delivering packages one day he said to me he had to take something up to the guide dogs for the blind.
he said up pulled into it HQ he said I saw all these flash moters on there forecourt but he didn't see a single dog being trained..
when I was there I joked where you blind he said no I didn't even hear a dog bark .
and yet he said all there's charity are saying give give give .
he said if somethings laid on my heart to give something to someone then I do it .
I also know another person who only gave to the life boats but I have no idea if he still dose that anymore due to what's going on now .
its sad that some people are exploiting some good people who genuinely care out there. If we stopped all the wars just may be we would have to feed the world and thay could live happily in there own country's but we all know that it's all about money and greed more now then ever
What difference did Live Aid make we still see advertising on television for the poor starving, sick children and people needing wells dug. Where did the money go ?? If it's so bad why do they keep having babies.
Oxfam boast about being in Africa for 50 years.
I'd say that was a failure and not something to be proud about.
and that poor Child is still walking to fetch dirty Water from a well x amount of miles away, 30+ years this Charity has been going and they still asking for Donations.
Oxfam has been around since 1942 and Save the children has been around for over 100 years and the problem has still not been solved. Why?Because they don't want it to. Too many people getting fat on your money while poor saps work for nothing in the shops.@@davidbarlow350
I've raised this question many times. anyway there's always someone to pay for their countless kids.
When the wells are dug the men dig it up and sell the pipe work for booze its a well known scam in Africa.
I refuse to give any money to the big charities, because they use it for their staff wages and pensions also money for the CEO with salary and big pension fund.
You have it right. Kneecap gave their awarded money away to two small local charities.
Crisis are asking me to donate ONLY £29.80. What a joke.
Rather bitterly disappointing. I hope people don’t buy it. Thanks for revealing the truth, Neil. I wish all journalists were like you!

I worked as manager in charity shop my eyes opened quickly,
Can you explain why pls
Please can you explain why? I have always donated heaps of stuff to my local charity shop so would find it helpful if you could please explain your comment.
Never believed it first time around and im proved to be right. I never give to charities
Never gave them a penny
Donate food to a charity. Done in Aus, and much needed by vulnerable people.
Yes, I agree. Donate food, not money.
I don’t give to any Charities until I have investigated them fully and found out exactly where the money is going and what the CEO and others salaries are.
Charities aka rackets
I will donate to these charities once we stop giving foreign aid to so called third world nations.
Good Morning Neil I am the same I do not give to most charities anymore, I found small concerns in my local area and support them instead.
I wont donate a penny to overseas while our own country have cold and hungry OAPs !!
👋👋 Thank you Neil for your powerful pragmatic words, your thoughts and opinions are spot on and mean so much. The disingenuous Sir Bob is full of his own importance and ought to practice what he preaches, he is a scruffy disgraceful mess, the charities deserve so much better. I give to smaller local charities who need it the most. Take care Neil, I am wishing you well. Hxx👋👋🙏🌟🏴❤️🌺
I only give to local hospice and put food in foodbank.
So after all the money that has been given to all these Geldof charities, has it stopped anything in africa at all? The answer is no, people are still dying of hunger and thirst there is still as much war going on, there has been billions in charty sent to africa and from what I can see it has done very little.
Africa isn't actually poor anymore...
We fed them 40 years ago, we're still feeding them now. Where has the money gone? Until they stop having endless civil wars between themselves whilst their people go hungry, I'm not giving the a penny.
Your tax pays for foreign aid.
@@Guitar6ty Don't we know it!
Always show starving babies and the parents look well fed to me. How's that?
I would never buy or give anything that Geldof has too do with ever.
I only donate locally, have done so for decades. Local food bank, hospice at home, local animal shelters etc.
And never mind feed the world, what about Britain? Look at all the food banks!

I dont give to charities now i wont fund their ceos lavish lifestyles
At junior school in the sixties we were asked to sell pictures from little booklets called "Sunny Smiles." This was supposedly to help African children - we were in dire poverty ourselves. All these decades later they're still at it!
I only give directly to people I know are in need or very small charities where you can see what they’re doing. I haven’t given to big charities for years.
Geldoph is a public schoolboy from a very rich family who rebelled against it

What a shame for the people who gave their time and skills free and with good intentions, like Mr Stock, that their genuine efforts to help have spoiled by bad elements. Thank you for calling this out Neil.
I received a Master of Arts degree in History at University of Limerick a few years ago (at an advanced age).. He rec a doctorate for nothing then at his advanced age I saw him in lobby being interested in the 'youngsters' who besieged him, after recieving his so called degree. and making his way through our graduation. Sooooo, NOT, Impressed.
In 1978 I was at Knebworth and the Boomtown Rats were one of the groups performing, I'd never heard of them. The performance wasn't up to much and no-one was impressed. BG started berating the audience, he'd obviously taken something to calm his nerves. He was bawling and shouting that we didn't understand Rock and Roll, somebody stated that the BT's output was hardly Rock and Roll?
You’re preaching to the choir Neil , for yrs I’ve given what I can to “ Charity “ but when different things came out about so many of these so called “ charities “ I’ve become very wary & not as inclined to donate anymore it’s sad that Greed always rots everything.. ☘️
Why not bring out a record to help fund the WFP for the pensioners of Britain BOB.
"charity starts at home" remember that before you give to anything!
Excellent report Neil.
The only charities I donate to these days are those that are within the immediate area I live in, and who are completely open and honest about where the money is going 🇳🇿
Only give to Air Ambulance, Salvation Army and Local Hospice for palliative care.
I used to like the sally army. My father inlaw told of how they were out saving lives as the bombs were falling during ww2. Checked out the salary of their ceo recently.... will never give to them again
NO to Salvation Army.
Hi Neil 👋👋👋🇦🇺🇦🇺 I gave up giving to charities yrs ago.
I see appeals to bring water to Indian villages so I tell them to cut back their space program and use that money.
the thing that riles me is that these days they tell you how much to give them!
I have always despised Geldof especially what he did to Michael Hutchence
Think Michael Hutchence was his own worst enemy.
Michael hutchence screwed BOB over actually
I never understood why Bob Geldof got custody of a child that wasn't his rather than Hutchense' parents or sister.
I only donate to the people and projects in my own community. This past summer, a small business owner got cancer, then she had her daughter run over and killed by a car. Weeks later, she passed also. The community lifted up the family and it was beautiful.
Charity begins at home! I’ll help people direct!
Sir Bob is all about giving, as long as it involves digging into your pockets rather than his own. Anyone remember his sneering attitude towards the fishermen who supported Brexit? A real champion of the people is Bob.
I've never been stupid enough to give anything to any charity and never will
I wish we could trust all charities sadly we can only trust a few😢
The first band aid a high percentage of the money collected went to ethiopia to buy arms etc!
"Do they know it's Eid?"
Only give to small local charity s where you can see the money actually being used
Geldof doesn't give a sugar for the poor.
Educated in the best here in Ireland.
Never a good word for Ireland.
@@africanborn2443 Very true 👋👋👋
Another slap in the face for those of us who really do care and want to make a difference.
Geldof is an absolute hypocrite of the highest order!
Creating charities is just a way for rich people to get richer.
