There is zero excuse to get offsides wrong, this isn't arbitrary handball or red card issues. You have the lines and the tech, this is not acceptable. Literally in shock listening to that statement.
I noticed VAR missed a penalty for Manchester United today also when a Crystal Palace player casually knocked the ball out of play using his hands 🤦♂😂
Exactly, offsides are well-defined unlike certain types of fouls which can be subjected to some kind of interpretation that will result in different judgement being passed. As you have mentioned; they have the lines, the tech and (I shall add on) the luxury of time to do the check but somehow all these came to naught.
It’s one thing making bad, subjective decisions, but when it gets to the point that even with VAR these refs are just blatantly wrong, something has to be done
Im an Everton fan but this is utterly unacceptable. Games have such high stakes these days and they are constantly being determined by the boys club. It's either clear corruption or utter incompetence. A week suspension doesn't cut it. Whoever was in charge of VAR there should be sacked. There's incidents like this nearly every week because these clowns can't do a job that 90% of the public could do better.
Respect from a Red to a Blue, your comments are very much appreciated. In a city where the family rivalry has somewhat changed to one where there is anger and distaste, it is nice to know there are some fans out there that can see through the corruption and offer a fair and unbiased point of view. We saw a horrendous decision last year in the City v EFC game. Their lies and corruption are affecting the majority of teams in the PL (it seems one team gets away with everything though). Brown envelopes are being pushed about, slid under doors and people are being bought all over the place. I hate to say it but these FPP charges against City and Everton, I reckon City will walk with a minor fine but Everton, they'll throw the book at because there's a very strange agenda and it has to be manipulated to benefit the objective. It's wrong and unjust. Something has to change because this whole league is a disaster snowballing out of control.
@noobxp1683 Red cards are subjective. Some people will sit on either side of the fence when it comes to those decisions. My opinion is irrelevant. Liverpool fans have no right to complain about red cards/fouls/penalties as they've been on the benefiting end of many of those decisions, in my opinion they shouldn't have been awarded a penalty in the first minute of the champions league final. But again, that's subjective. The disallowed goal, however, is not. That goal should have stood. And the fact that it didn't because play had started and its against protocol to go back and fix things is absurd. As a fan of the game it just doesn't sit right.
@@aizenangelFinally some non emotional football fans, very very bad mistake from the VAR team and the ref for not stopping the play or even waiting for the ball to go out. but its all should've, could've, would've. onto the next game for us Liverpool fans.
As an LFC fan I never thought I'd say this. Nice one Gary for calling the corruption, no sorry wrong word, incompetence out on air. PGMOL should be investigated immediately.
As a Spurs fan, I really don't think it's corruption, just terrible decision making and lack of competance from VAR. The thing is, if every club's fanbase is calling it out, it can't be corruption, it comes around to negatively effect everyone, even we have had terrible decisions this season. Serious change needs to be done, as it's just terrible for football going forward, means no one is happy and even Spurs fans like me can't properly celebrate a win tonight.
This is actually highly unacceptable. Bad decisions like these are gonna cost teams like Liverpool later on in the season. This sort of incompetence needs to change.
Why they said no to the semi automated offside system they use around Europe I will never know because that's how smooth, quick and accurate offside checks should look
VAR needs its own independent body to review what’s supposed to be an independent body. Absolute joke in this day and age. The PGMOL statement isn’t enough. This match fixture should be replayed and come with heavy, independent fines for the officials. This is coming from a fan of neither clubs. Embarrassing.
I agree. VAR that can run rampant without any fear of punishment is too open for corruption or foul play. The worst of it is that any club can get on the bad side of VAR and all they get is an acknowledgement of error from PGMOL. They need to adhere to their own rules and pay fines for their errors. It's easy handing out fines to coaches and players for speaking out of emotions during a game. But somehow they're free of judgement when our English league is infamous for the worst officials and refereeing body. So comical.
@@EliasRoyyou must be 13. an adult understands the importance of pointing out errors. no matter what club it effects. next saturday its your team. and youll be crying.
The only plausible explanation is that VAR must have thought that the offsides call from the linesman was made before the goal was scored. If that were the case, then yes, VAR can't intervene because the play is dead at the point of the call, which would have been before the goal was scored. But, that's not what happened here. The linesman waited to call offsides AFTER the goal, which is what linesmen are told to do so that the entire play is reviewable by VAR.
I watched this game from Australia and never in my entire life have I witnessed such blatant corruption in a football match. A match decided not by the two teams but by both onfield officials and disgraceful VAR. Liverpool were never going to win this game if they had anything to do about it, and so it turned out. I for one wont be watching the PL until bank accounts are checked as part of a full investigation.
As a West Ham fan I feel for Liverpool here, what a total disgrace. It’s ruining the game we all cherish and love. Some serious investigation is needed! Never thought I’d enjoy a Neville interview either 😂.
It's not ruining the game, the refs without VAR get these offside calls wrong all the time. But the fact they still sometimes getting it wrong with VAR is genuinely embarrassing.
I am grateful to see fans of other clubs speaking up for Liverpool. Mad respect for you guys. If these errors can happen to Liverpool, it can happen to you guys too. I would hate to watch a rigged match. I rather watch a match lost badly than a match lost due to atrocious errors.
It's been every club at some point, and it will continue to cost us all games. Could you imagine your club getting relegated over a VAR decision like Liverpool yesterday?

As a Utd fan I never believed Liverpool fans when they said the league was rigged for City’s favour. But after city losing today I wondered whether something would happen to favour them and it was so painfully obvious with that Diaz disallowed goal. Everyone could see he was on by about a foot and the skipping over it so quickly without even drawing lines screams of corruption at the highest level
This happens alot with city, whoever threatens them gets bad decision it happened to arsenal last season, Liverpool the years before that. The only consistent thing about the refs is how the 'poor decisions' favour oil run clubs
I'm not even a Liverpool fan, I'm a City fan and that was absolutely unacceptable from these officials. Who's to hold them accountable for stuff like this cause if there isn't any action done, then how is it fair on the teams that are disadvantaged?

Screw all of that. If they are admitting they could not officiate the match correctly the whole match should be void. Simple. As an arsenal fan it's just unbelievable at this stage, you can see even without the lines that he's onside, there is no excuse. And don't even get me started on that referee today.
I'm a red and have said this for a few seasons now...I don't care if it's a decision against my own team, as long as it's correct. I'm starting to believe that there are big bets going on, on these games somewhere in the world!. Look at yourselves against Brentford last season.
I'm not a Liverpool fan. At all. But this is a disgrace. How the hell can we as fans ever forget this moment? VAR is a liability and a complete joke! I feel so bad for Liverpool and their fans. I would be fuming if it eas my club. That's completely unforgettable and unforgiveable. Fire that ref right now!
@@781David Two game suspension is not good enough. Darrent England needs to be sacked. Without refs being held accountable for their actions, nothing will change.
I’m not a Liverpool fan. But I don’t like this happening because it can and will happen to your team eventually as well. Typically the linesman is told to NOT flag offsides and allow VAR to reviews it after the goal. So the fact that it was called offsides to begin with was strange. Then without ANY lines you can see it was clearly onsides. This is more then a human error.
I'll have to watch the game again, but I don't think the linesman called offsides before the goal was scored. This allows VAR to review it. Had the linesman called offsides before the goal, VAR cannot review it because the play is dead when the offsides is called, which would be before the goal. Therefore, it's not reviewable.
...or not doing - human "error". They also knew what they were doing when they presented the Jones tackle still the way they did, and for the length of time that they did, and then only show slow mo footage from just one angle@@terrypage358
The reason why this is so shocking is because VAR is meant to correct mistakes. How can the group of individuals in the VAR booth collectively get something this simple wrong? It's madness. Fire them and get people who actually have common sense reviewing things.
They did everything correct except for the communication part with the main ref. Linesman called it offside at first so original ref’s verdict was to disallow the goal. And the VAR booth only said ‘Check complete’ not paying attention that the verdict by the main ref was offside. They should have just communicated it better
Dont be stupid 4 people in VAR , 3 refs and other staff that are supposed to have control ove the game. This is no mistake , its clear match fixing for the bookies!
But you've also benefited from decisions too. This is the biggest problem, the mistakes are happening league-wide. What worries me is that because it's happened in a Liverpool match, there's demand for a huge inquiry, yet why has it taken until this for PGMOL to acknowledge errors? Many of the smaller clubs have had to put up with shocking decisions for years now, and yet the officials and PGMOL stay silent. They either need to use the rugby TMO approach, or just axe the whole thing, because the money that's being spent for this level of ineptitude is frankly beyond farcical.
@@adewale8759 the point of your comment being that decisions like this might mean you losing out on the title? Yes, I got that. My point in rebuttal of yours was that it's not only Liverpool this has happened to. We've seen years of decisions going against teams that could be the difference between relegation or not, European places, title races etc. We've also seen a lot of bad VAR calls the past couple of years too. I'll be honest pal, I think some people are a bit bugged by how far Liverpool are planning on taking this, how much the media are lapping it up, and what exactly PGMOL are going to do further (they've already sacked or suspended one official). It seems there's way more fury and reaction here than any previous instances of VAR controversy. For the record, I totally understand their anger at the decisions, I've been annoyed myself as a fan, but I just don't see what else they want. They aren't going to void the result and/or rescind the cards, so unless there's an overhaul of VAR, we'll be facing similar situations in the near future! By the way, claims of corruption require some kind of evidence of such activity. Incompetence and ineptitude are different things entirely.
They have one job to do. That's it. So many errors this season. Who will it be next week. Clubs need to come together on this. The integrity of the game is at stake.
The amount of money being thrown around in premier league football and they can't seem to get simple onside/offside decisions correct with in three match officials watching the game in person and room of officials using VAR, it's truly horrendous. Not a Liverpool fan, but this kind of error needs to have serious consequences for those involved.
It's amazing how they find new ways to mess up the use of what should be a very helpful tech every week. This was certainly a low point but not the only one

As a chelsea fan, a disgrace. The referees in this country are abysmal. A game suspended won't do nothing. Its just a day off for the refs, Suspend them for the season or sack them. This refeering can really affect a title race but the PGMOL won't take action. Absolutely insane how they didn't see that was onside with all the tech that we have in VAR. People say VAR is the problem, but no, it's the referees. They're either bias or they aren't good enough. Disgraceful.
The only "human error" was taking the huge bung. That offside was the most corrupt decision I have seen in fifty years of watching football. It makes me wonder if there is any point continuing to watch the game. None of the match officials should ever work again. It absolutely stinks.
@oldbloke135 I have to disagree on one point. Drogba goal for Chelsea at United that won them the title was the most blatant offside ever he was 2 yards offside and for some reason lino never saw it😮

As a Spurs fan I feel for Liverpool here. I was sitting there watching at home and thinking this is surely going to be overturned and the goal awarded, as everyone and their dog and gran could see Romero's leg playing Diaz onside, with the pitch lines helping in addition. A serious reveiw needs to happen. I will even say I thought the red card and 1st Jota yellow were harsh. I have always been a fan of VAR to ensure fairness and the right calls are made that would normally slip through and have massive consequences, but if VAR is then incorrectly overturning decisions, or not intervening correctly, then get rid and go back to trust in just the officials on the pitch. Personally I want to know that my team has won fairly, and not just for draws and loses.
The way Klopp conducted himself was fantastic. And im glad that FOOTBALL fans, regardless of who they support, can see the obvious injustice in this instance.
okay so they have acknowledeged that they made a mistake, but what's the point? are they gonna get their points back? how is it gonna give back what liverpool were robbed off? If you aren't gonna give the points or have the match replayed n stuff like this, why can't you just fix your system. This is honestly so frustrating and tiring man, just kills the love of the game.
The only way to fix VAR it is to allow coaches to challenge a call like they do in the NFL. It forces the ref to look at the monitor and make the decision.

This is inexcusable. How can they admit they got it wrong right after the game? Why not take the extra 30 seconds and actually check it? Amazing this is the third or 4th time they've come out after a Liverpool game and said they made a mistske. Its getting to the point where it has to be on purpose

This event can't be put down to human error. They didn't even check it. Everyone who watched the match saw it was too quick. There is VAR and VAR assistant, and neither bothered to check an event as significant as a goal. What possible explanation can they have? They forgot. Said check complete by accident and didn't bother correcting it? The only thing that makes sense at this point is a blatant attempt to affect the result of a match.
So even if VAR was not there, the goal would still have been disallowed because the onfield call was offside... So it was a mistake not some conspiracy to make Liverpool loose the match.
@@simonsimon325 Bro it was not VAR technological failure but a communication gap between VAR and on field referee. However the 2 yellows Jota got in an interval of under 5 minutes were pretty absurd. First one is a clearly accidental soft contact with the opponents heel (not even his toes, so could hardly argue it's a trip). Something like that is a soft foul, definitely not a yellow. The second yellow was also pretty harsh. Yes he got none of the ball, but it was a pretty soft low tackle. It's fair to give a first yellow for something like that, but to give a second is overkill.
This is ridiculous, these sort of decisions can potentially cost teams League titles. Im not even a Liverpool fan but if they lose out by one or two points then these goals could.make all the difference.
The penalty area line is quite different though, the angle is really confusing as well. If I go by the pitch line, then sure, onside. But pitch lines aren't "official", so to speak. Otherwise? Who the hell knows?
@ondrejturecek2850 the pitch lines aren't official but they are 100% straight. The penalty area line isn't in question here. Its obvious he's onside either way.
@@ondrej1893 you are watching a video explaining they have released their official statement saying it was onside and you’re still trying to argue it could’ve been offside? 😂
Apparently the VAR thought the goal had been given, so when they checked and saw the player was onside and said check complete, they thought they were confirming that it was a legitimate goal whereas they were confirming the actual on-field decision that it was offside. This explains why the check was completed so quickly as it was pretty obvious even without drawing lines that the player was onside. It still beggars belief that the VAR didn't know that the goal had been called offside, there's clearly a communication breakdown or the VAR wasn't paying proper attention to the game or got confused somehow. And why just say check complete, why not clearly state the outcome of the check. If they'd said the player was onside, or the goal stands, then the on-field ref would have reversed the offside decision.
This is a terrible day for the game. The officials/directors/producers and whoever is behind the scenes running the programming just straight up lied to everyone involved with the match. There has to surely be some sort of match fixing going on. As Gary said, there's been a couple of others the past couple of weeks where the lines and angles just haven't looked right either. Var didn't fail to intervene. Even VAR knew it was onside but they relayed the information as "stick to your decision". Unfortunately the on field decision was offisde so the VAR in big screen showed it's offside even though the VAR knew it's onside.
I said this from the start . The VAR team needs to be a separate entity and personnel that has no association with premier league refs at all, on the pitch and off .
The fact that even spurs fans are openly admitting the chaos means soemthing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the opposing team do that. The beautiful game is well and truly finished
Don't want the game ruined thats why. Spurs fans know what its like the be screwed by bad refs, as do most other fans too. Just want a fair game. That could of easily been a match of the season yesterday with two teams that love to attack, instead we got to watch a team struggle to break down a 9 man wall and a stupid offside call.
VAR is definitely involved in some form of match fixing. This brings me back to last year's nightmare with Arsenal against Brentford where the PGMOL said after the match that VAR simply didn't put the lines down for a blatant offside by Brentford. The PGMOL themselves should be investigated by an independent party.
Being a Liverpool fan, what happened last night was so wrong. Leaving aside the red cards and everything else, when you clearly do not get a goal for an onside goal it ruins the game entirely. Please take action against the corruption.
This 'offside' was the worst decision of the match, it was beyond ridiculous. I've just watched old MOTD videos on RUclips which had similarly appalling offside calls, and that was way before VAR was introduced. Jota should not have been on a yellow before the second one (which incidentally WAS a booking). Jones though I felt deserved a red. The challenge was dangerous and going over the ball in a 50/50 like that will often run the risk of a potential leg breaker. That one call out of several bad ones doesn't remotely excuse the officials though.
@@Nightopian1982 That's true. But besides, the offside which was clearly blatant, I can clearly recall many incidents where everything was favoured towards Spurs. Believe me, I hate what City have transformed into, and what's happened to top flight football as a result, but 'case closed'? Please.
How? There is only one explanation that I can come to. Man City lost, so Liverpool had to lose as well. If you spend £1.5 billion building your team, a few million making sure the officials are on your side is chicken feed. The Premier League officiating makes Barcelona look honest.
As a spurs fan When it got ruled out I was genuinely In shock and disbelief. I kept thinking ‘nah that’s clearly on, they’ll bring it back/look again in a couple of minutes when the ball goes out’. VAR has come under so much pressure when it comes to ‘subjective’ calls like handballs, but this. This is its BREAD AND BUTTER. Awful day for football.
Once Spurs take the free kick the game can't be stopped which is why they tell players to wait. We are the only country with VAR that still use it so poorly.
The VAR teams need to be retrained. It's absolutely ridiculous. A few years ago at my place of work, my entire department was replaced because our Quality Assessment results wasn't up to scratch. As a team, we made nowhere near as much mistakes as VAR seem to make. There seems to be at least 1 embarrassing mistake every gameweek. VAR are getting away with mistakes far too often. Gary Neville is right. They need to use the correct camera angles. If that means football clubs are forced into putting in more cameras to cover more angles, then so be it.
How do they do offside technology in champions league and FIFA World cup? Because i swear its like some computer image that perfectly detects it, in the premier league it looks like some guy is drawing lines on a computer himself?
So sad PGMOL is always sinking Liverpool and giving advantages to Liverpool rivals. Last season VAR won City the league by not awarding everton a clear penalty when Rodri handled the ball in the penalty area. Now out of six games this season, liverpool had been clearly cheated in three different occasions, this is absurd
I was fuming last year with some decisions against Arsenal. They did Liverpool dirty here. I saw during the game that this could never have been offside.
Brentford game changed the title race. Has happened to Liverpool when competing with City before too (Kompany knee high tackle on Salah, Jota penalty+Kane red at Spurs, Rodri handball). If you get too close to City, suddenly you get decisions against you and for them.
I feel so bad for Liverpool I was celebrating in such a disrespectful way as if we deserved it and give Liverpool the point we don’t want points that we don’t deserve
Tbh not bothered losing to Spurs. I hope you guys beat Man City and win a trophy soon. However yes very unfair on Liverpool. Good luck spurs for the rest of the season
Villa fan, no sports fan here. As there is such a blatant error on VAR part, we should have what they have in the NFL. Your allowed 3 challenges per team, if you challenge a decision and it’s correct in your favour ( player wasn’t in an offside position etc ) you keep your 3 challenges. If the decision goes against you, you lose it! Have 3 decisions per half. What’s the worst thing that could happen is a delay of play. It is going to be worse if these decisions keep getting made, with no immediate response or comments from match officials and managers, coaches and players get fined for questioning the decision!! These decisions are costing matches. They are going to add up to making the difference between winning or losing on winning or losing lifting a title or relation! I am sure most fans would rather it came down to 90 minutes every weekend rather than repeated unexplained very questionable decisions!! Why not have former players or coaches with the VAR to help in making decisions?
City were robbed at ot its nit a case of city getting the decisions is incompetence but in the other hand how many times have spurs been getting all theses decisions
Pathetic Sterling pen the 2021 2022 season, rodri obvious pen, arsenal vs city debacle the same season, arsenal getting robbed against Brendford for the SAME freaking reason as today,Ws i an convinced city is involved
There is zero excuse to get offsides wrong, this isn't arbitrary handball or red card issues. You have the lines and the tech, this is not acceptable. Literally in shock listening to that statement.
They have ex ManUtd player Howard Webb in charge…. So no shocker
FACTS.. there should be investigated for match fixing.. this coming from an Arsenal fan.. its all BS..

Just wondering, what is your opinion of the red card? I feel that it shouldn't have been one.

Then without ANY lines you can see it was clearly onsides. This is more then a human error.
That's inaccurate. The linesman is told to hold the flag until play has concluded in order not to affect the play, as he did here.

Honestly, every single time this happens, they just apologize thinking its all solved, and then go on to repeat the same things again.

Of course it is on purpose. City have an infinite amount of money and the PGMOL want to share in the wealth. The game is totally corrupt.

Respect to you dude. As a red myself, it's heart warming to know there are really decent football fans out there that just want TRUE decisions being made and the game won through the skill of the game and not the corruption behind the scenes.

Yes sir - logical deduction right there.
match fixing and bet money
So even if VAR was not there, the goal would still have been disallowed because the onfield call was offside... So it was a mistake not some conspiracy to make Liverpool loose the match.
@@someone82453 It's all about a failure of VAR. So the on-field decision and hypothetical scenarios about VAAR not existing are irrelevant.
@@simonsimon325 Bro it was not VAR technological failure but a communication gap between VAR and on field referee. VAR thought the onfield call was goal and he just said "check complete" thinking goal will be given but since the onfield decision was offside, the goal was disallowed and later on when they realised the mistake, nothing could be done as play had moved on.. So it was nothing like they had not checked or they did quickly or in a hurry but a 'human error'
Corruption pure and simple. No excuses for it. Someone is getting paid off for these 'mistakes'.

@@Michael-fc7nonah jota wasn’t in my opinion first yellow was stupid
@@Michael-fc7no Absolutely not. The straight red is only a straight red to people who have never played the game.
@@Michael-fc7noI agree the red Jones got is a straight red and there's no reason for a player to ever make a challenge like that.
Mistakes like this not only anger fans but makes fans ask if the fix is in for teams and an apology just doesnt cut it.
This is ridiculous, these sort of decisions can potentially cost teams League titles. Im not even a Liverpool fan but if they lose out by one or two points then these goals could.make all the difference.
Its not an error its corruption. Literally obvious he was onside by lines on the pitch.
Gary’s “oh noe” is golden, NPC vibes 😂
Something is really going on behind the scenes.
It's maddening that corruption is so rarely mentioned in instances like this. There's no way anyone who's gone through all the training to become a top level referee, is getting decisions like this so incredibly wrong. It reeks.
They'd still just get bribed or their kids' lives quietly threatened by shady operatives with ties to sheikhs acting above international law anyway

I don't remember a single 50 50 decision going our way. Udogie who was suggesting a yellow card for Jota was also on a yellow himself, so he should have been sent off as well.
@@anipal029 I watched the game, but I'm sure there were a couple that went Liverpool's way. I'm sorry, but we've had this for years now in football, with home teams getting favourable decisions. I've watched United games over the past couple of years where we've also been robbed, but I've not been on here demanding apologies or replays. Why? Because it's a bit rich coming from a fan of a big club. I just wish they'd never bothered with VAR. Football was far more free-flowing and exciting before.
