I live in Morehead, KY, and she isn't the only missing woman. I know of three. One was an Elementary school teacher who had worked for the public school system. The other lived in Fleming County (and was another widowed farmer's wife with very little education). My thoughts on this is they met someone who talked them into trusting them and away from their family, friends, and everyone who loved them. It may have been the same person.

nobody can understand what it feels like to become a widow. All you ever knew is gone. Your anchor has disappeared and most of all you do not know who you are. You and your husband were one person. Your identity was in the both of you. All of the sudden you are ripped away from yourself with a huge vacuum left inside of you. Your question is 'Who am I' now and how do I fill such emptiness? You honestly do not know who you are. Nobody on planet earth can understand that except one who has had this same experience. If you do not from the start walk through that darkness with the right light you will loose yourself. I know widows who loose themselves in their kids, their friends. Traveling, working, money, shopping, I could go on and on. I am a Christian, but I know widows who get lost in there church. Not Jesus... the church. Working nonstop in the church. Thank my blessed Savior he brought me through and still is bringing me through. I will never stop loving or missing my precious husband it is a daily journey to stay balanced and let the Lord introduce me to me. Hearing this only saddens me because I may not know where she is but I certainly know how she got there.

Possibly a Lesbian attachment...? Or a gigolo turned psycho...? She "appeared" to be acting radically out of character, but what if she was simply fed up? She was comfortably off and her kids were grown. I've known quite a few women of that generation, some well-educated, some not, all of whom had one thing in common: they wanted more out of life than they were getting in their roles of wife, widow, mom and grandma. Her disappearance sounds organized and planned. What I find odd about the story is that she didn't seem to have many close friends, women or men, and apparently existed at the beck and call of her children and grandchildren. Also, it doesn't sound as if her disappearance was thoroughly investigated. (Not surprisingly.) Who or what is the missing link?
Thank you for presenting this sad, fascinating story. Well done and highly professional. My heart feels heavy after hearing her story. I hope her family will at least get closure someday.

It is now 34 years later. 71+34 is approximately 105 depending on when she was born. Not likely she is still alive anyway. Since she no longer collected her social security check, renewed her drivers license and never opened another bank account, I believe the person who she left with probably did away with her as he/she got what he/she wanted and Gladys was just unnecessary baggage and could threaten his/her future schemes of preying on future widows. It has happened multiple times throughout history and continues today. My mother was a victim of several online romance schemes and eventually her house was foreclosed on. Had she not succumbed to Covid, she would have died homeless and penniless. They took every bit of money she had. She was a very lonely widow who discovered a world online that gave her the attention and emotional support she felt she needed. She was so lonely and desperate for love that she didn’t see what was happening. Those predators seek out women in the same desperate emotional state that she was in. Those evil predators have no souls. And that’s the nicest thing I can say about them. I hope Glady’s family can find peace and comfort.

There's so many questions? At 71 was she thinking critically or had she declined some? To me it sounds like a romance scam. Occam's Razor ~ the simplest answer is usually the right answer..
However for such a devoted family woman, A good Christian, I can't think she would actually go through with selling the farm behind her kids backs
Did he seduce her then black mail her into selling the farm, or was it some secret from the past, she didn't want to get out? Was one of her kids in trouble, did someone convince her that one of her children or grandchildren was in trouble?
I just don't really see a woman like this doing something selfish and dishonest, so I think some kind of threats were made or some story given that she fell for. Con Man, and murderer. Justice is coming Gladys, see you in heaven rest in peace.

I wonder if they talked to people who may have seen her leave the bank. Someone could have overheard her removing all that money. But.. why did she need all that money. Any those mysterious phone calls. Hmmmm

@@TheAppalachianStoryteller No I have a stalker that removes my comments. Pretty sure it's google because I reported their Google Pay service for stealing $225 out of my checking account. Bank gave the money back. Never had a google pay account but I found my debit card number without having to sign in or enter a password into Google pay service! Just went to Google Pay, click on recent activity and BOOM their was my debit card number!

I suspect foul play alright. Either that or she had a blood clot that affected her brain or something. But given the $ involved, I'd say foul play.

It's been years so has the property been sold again? Who moved into her house? Or is it all abandoned? Say it was the new owners who got her, why would they just steal their own money back? No, something else was afoot.

I think she was conned, kidnapped, forced to write the letters, then murdered. Her family meant everything to her, and she would not have left them.
