I absolutely do not see how the FOV is increased. In fact it appears MUCH smaller, and I have the prior "Note 5" edition to compare it too. If you look carefully at the front end of both devices (this one and the Note 5 white version) this version almost has an extra "layer" of plastic jutting out from the two eye pieces, where the layer of plastic on the Note 5 version is much thinner. Its a little difficult to explain what I mean here without actually looking at an image of the two side by side. What you get in the end, is that when you adjust the scroller up top to adjust image clarity, that extra thicker layer of plastic comes forward and is MUCH more pronounced and it causes the FOV on the left and right sides to be severely reduced. The immersion is totally lost because of this. The white/Note 5 version was much much more immersive because of its its design compared to this. Its true that the lenses on this version are larger which is why there is a theoretical FOV improvement, but in practice because the actual goggles come out so much more (again look at the two head on, side by side) you lose so much FOV when you adjust the scroller to fit your vision. You see too much of the "sides" of the plastic layer through the lenses because its just too big and protruding forward too much. The older version didnt do this... very very diappointed by this. The other design flow is that on the Note 5 version, you could put the plate cover back over the phone after the phone was mounted. You cannot do that with this version. Basically you are left with this extra "piece" of the Gear VR that you basically have to hold on to (tedious if flying, riding passenger in a car on a road trip) and you have nowhere to put this thing. It was nice to reattach it to the old Gear VR as a "storage location" and also for some piece of mind knowing your expensive phone isnt all out in the open (remember you have to remove any protective case to put it on, so its helpful to be able to use this. On this new version, you cannot mount the front cover with the phone also mounted which renders it pretty useless.. Was really excited about this product and will probably return this product unless ANYONE can prove me wrong in that the FOV is actually improved given this design flaw. I am surprised I have not seen anyone else mention these two critical points.. Im curious to see what others have to say.
on the previous model the track pad only seems to use up/down and left/right, is that true? on this model it looks like you can use the track pad in any direction like on a laptop, is that the case? or does the interface only utilize left/right and up/down navigation? but this model just doesn't have the channels?

And technically if you deactivate the Gear VR / Ocullus Service, you could use it with every fitting Phone. What you wont be able to use is the built-in hardware.

s6 and s7, yes. BUT! And a big but, its not confirmed the note 5 will. And by extension, how many cutting mods will be required to use the note 4 like the last one. Why? Well, with that adapter, its possible the note 5 may just not fit. Its a thick little adapter.
Some amazon sellers sell it with the type c connector some don't, It's really a gamble. I'd suggest contacting the seller but if you can't I can send you a link to purchase the type connector.

My biggest disappointment with the Note 7 is they did not increase the screen resolution. The screen door effect really kills the immersion for me on these VR headsets and it's not the headset's fault as that's merely a lense. It's the size and number of pixels on these screens. I had really hoped for a nice 4k screen so watching movies in VR would finally be worth the trouble.

Please check your facts before reporting them. 110 degrees is wrong, you said it many times in the report, but it's only 101 degrees as reported by at least 4 reputable websites that were hands on with the device and Samsung's own people. I assure you, if it was 110 degrees, that would be quite a large increase and would indeed make the device worthy to purchase even if you already had CE1. So even that point you made is wrong based on the wrong information you were going with. 110 is a HUGE increase for GearVR, if it had been 110 and not 101. 101 is not very much, only 5 degrees.... it's not going to even be noticeable unless you play the same game on both devices and then swap headsets rapidly to see the differences. But 110 would be noticeable for sure.
So they made a new version? I'll just keep the Note 5 version till theirs a 4k screen on the Note 8. Trust me the resolution is fucking. awful with 2k.

As Samy said, it is not only because of the USB connector. Besides the FOV and the improved new design (touchpad, buttons, etc..) it is still a part of developing VR. Since they are working with Oculus, you will see lots of new 99 Dollar Gear VR instead of new 700 Dollar Oculus Headsets. But I guess it is okay for the development of VR. We all will see some final results in a few years - when it became mainstream.

Another gear VR will launch next year and with an s7 or note 7 being a 2k screen it'll be mostly the same experience. If they launch the S8 & S8 Edge with 4K resolution screen you'll notice a difference.

Good video John, and the new VR is a good improvement over the last one. My only issue is fogging. I hope they have more ventilation in the new one.
