That's why it's good for the albums to exist, to allow the creation of these artists to be put out there regardless of if a particular piece was used or not. I myself don't really understand the whole "shame this didn't get used" mentality when it's put onto an album for you to be able to experience. Would it be preferable the particular piece of music not exist at all? I certainly don't think so. Of course I also only got into homestuck after it was completely finished and didn't get to experience the wait for another panel (especially a flash panel) to come out with which I could speculate on the choice of music to be used. Maybe that's a shame on me, but to quote myself from this very comment: Would it be preferable new people not experience the same story even though they experience it in a different way? .... wow I'm totally arguing with an imaginary person I created based on a singular comment. My apologies. I find I have a tendency to ramble when I reply to comments on homestuck stuff these days.
I like how the very same intruments signify grim hopeless desperation but change to a victorious pompous tone in the end. Same bells, same violins. It's like Rose had an epic battle with the darkest side of her own mind and her hope prevailed.
i feel like the grimoirkind specibus is sort of an unfired chekovs gun. What if to go grimdark, instead of ambiguously being possessed or whatever she equipped the grimoire as her primary weapon, directly channelling the power through herself instead of through the needles
I feel like this song would be used for an alternate timeline where derses moon is crashing somewhere in the furthest ring as a replacement for the flash in descend.
PURE LOVE. :D Rose's progression into grimdarkness always struck me as a kind of disease. It was taking over the way she spoke, dressed... she seemed more and more closed off until even her Pesterchum speech bubble was black. Seeing her as a god tier was like she had been healed and could breathe again. She looked less like a snarky, dangerous witch and more like a happy little girl. That's not to say, of course, that Grimdark Rose's tentacle sequence wasn't completely badass.
To me this feels like it was meant for a Rose ascending to god tier page, if she didnt ascend on her slab thing in that one flash that I can't remember the name of.
+Interpause Actually Rose acted much like a Mage of Void during the first parts of the session. She was so interested in darkness and the Horrorterrors, that she let them affect her to the point of Grimdarkness. So you could say it was made for her.
not even joking this is the song that got me into homestuck, my curiosity on how such a innocent girl with such a nice headband could go so grim, and of course tentacles.
“An Earthsea Borealis? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the Medium? Localized entirely with in your land?” “Urd/“ “…” “May I see it?” “Zp/”
At first it sounded like a Troubled Lullaby, it sounds like an Eternal Disaster, with a horrifying Touch, Then it sounded like a little Traveler who seeks Adventures and Treasures, Full of great stories ahead, it really sounds exciting! And it ended. This maybe the best song in the Album! Truly my Favorite!
a small interesting thing: the bells starting at 1:59 sound similar to the ones in a track from the pokemon anime, "1997-1998M31B" by Shinji Miyazaki. earthsea borealis's bells have a higher-pitched melody that loops back into itself, but the note progression feels really close of course it's impossible to know if it was purposeful or just a coincidence without asking toby fox, but hey, i think it's neat
TheBurrowingHippo In response to your message "Man, this actually fits pretty well to the newest updates." on the Earthsea Borealis video, yes. Yes it does. Would love to hear this video in a future update. Would go amazingly in the final flash I imagine. ^_^ (Typed like this because of legacy comments not being compatible with the current format for RUclips.)
I think this fits as Prospit's battle theme. it's desperate and they are losing through the whole thing, but at the last minute, the heroes come through and save the day, defying fate and overcoming entropy, creating a new universe against all odds.
I heard that this song was supposed to represent a fight between Rose and her Denizen, Cetus. They did something similar with "Gaia Queen" from Vol. 6 (Jade and Echidna). No matter what, it's pretty great.
this sounds like music a highschool band would play like no offense to the song itself I love earthsea borealis but Jesus Christ this feels like it was made to be played by one of them

TeamCreeperBomb Fair enough i just like people who say things like "Oh this is exactly like this one thing from some obscure game no ones ever heard of that came out way before this" because i feel saying things like that undermine the creativity put into making the original song but i do see your point

Just discovered that the drums from 0:27 onward souunds like the 'Mellow orch kit' instrument from the Squidfont Orchestral soundfont! Fun fact, this seems to be the second Rose song that has instruments that were also used in the Smash Ultimate version of MEGALOVANIA. (Though this one isn't much of a coincidence, since this song is also made by Toby Fox.) The first song in question being Derse Dreamers, which uses the Solo Violin from the EWQLSO Library. In SSBU It's used for the secret melody during the brass section and the drop string, right before the solo. Now is this information relevant or useful? Well, No,
I remember a video in gmod of Tf2 that had this song, but I also remember later that I was looking for it and it no longer existed in Yt, I even forgot the name of that video, I remember that the mercenaries were shouting a lot...
@OchaKai Cetus was also Rose's Denezin, for the record (I don't think she mentioned it, but it was her browser). Apparently a Hero's aspect defines which Denezin they get in their Land? I think Kanaya and Jade had Echidna, and they were both "Of Space".
I don't know much about Homestuck so I'm not sure if this was intentional or anything but I noticed more similarities the music to Kingdom Hearts other than how it sounds. In Japanese, earth is 'riku' and sea is 'kairi'. Earthsea. Also this is quite a stretch, but sky is 'sora' and the Aurora Borealis is a display of lights in the sky. It's probably just a coincidence, though
For all you people, The words, in their most common forms, in japanese are, Earth = Tsuchi, Sea = Kaiyou and Sky = Kuchyu, so despite the resemblance to kingdom hearts music it is not it a reference.
well to be fair, homestuck's music takes a lot of inspiration from other games, so it's not unlikely that whoever made this was inspired a bit by kingdom hearts, and considering how many other coincidences and references there are in homestuck that's not a bad idea, it's interesting if nothing else
Homestuck and Kingdom Hearts are fairly similar narratives, albeit the Homestuck style is a little weird. If you're interested, I suggest going through the other MS Paint Adventures first to get familiar with the style, or "watching" Homestuck on the CoLabHQ youtube page.

this should be the perfect ascension song for a Mage of Void

Cetus' theme tho
Not gonna lie, I wouldve loved to see how their planet quests would’ve all panned out without troll intervention
Poorly, because their session was never gonna succeed
isnt this basically rose's equivalent to savior of the waking world? an orchestra bullshit remix of her planet theme?
also its a fucking awesome song
Cookie Fonster I heard that this was Radiation's work and gog damn they were right on this piece.
It's said by the composer to be Cetus' boss theme.
i wonder what the equivalent to savior of the waking world is to the other kids
im sure there are some themes that qualify

This does actually kinda sound like Descend's opposite

Xenath Cytrin ....idk what you're asking but nobody said anything about Cascade soo
Charmi the Eevee Derse's moon crashing in the furthest ring is exactly what happened in [S] Cascade.
Xenath Cytrin oh, thats right that did happen. i forgot that it crashed. xD
More like Earth C Borealis amirite
AAA omg
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Upon seeing "Earthsea" my first thought turned towards the Wizard of Earthsea, which would fit well with Rose and her fixation on dark magic.
Glad to hear I was not the only one
i immediately googled "Earthsea" 's wikipedia page and my god, slapped into my eyes are 3 different characters name Rose

This should be great for a Grimdarked Mage of Void ascension, after which the Mage causes incredible chaos and looks all dark and evil.

i feel like this would be music for a battle against a majestic yet terrifying boss (especially the first 45 seconds)
Denizen?
Fitting since, according to the composer, this is the theme of Cetus, Rose’s denizen.
Am I the only one who thinks this would be a perfect movement for a marching band show?

Earthsea in the title reminds me of the fantasy series of the same name.

I just and simply love it.
Songs like these made me see how far we can go with music separating long and wide from what everyone else is doing.
I feel pokemon vibes from this and I don't know why. It sounds like battle theme, orchestrated.
The syncopated percussion/bass line and the fast note runs, perhaps?
