I got seeds from Stephen (thanks!), and am about to plant out now. I already see some differences in the (big) seedlings. This video was very useful, I want to join your efforts and breed kales in my garden. What a cool plant to grow!
@@myrrhispermakulturhaven1835 How can I get seeds from you? I've recently started a perennial kale/tree collard project and wanting to get lots of genetic diversity.
Sea kale, crambe maritima, is exactly that. It lives about 15years and isn't so affected by cabbage worms and slugs. Are you in Europe? I could send you a root cutting
Deitrich's Wild Broccoli Raab. I planted some last year. It survived a pretty cold winter here in Ohio. Has sent up flower stocks in multitudes this spring(April). I expect to be eating this for years.
@@gregzeigler3850 Thank you for the recommendation. My cime de rapa, aka turnip tops are also doing really well. Not familiar with Deitrichs, but any turnip sown too late in autumn to make a good root, is used here for turnip greens in spring. If autumn is long, we get tender roots, if not, wonderful spring greens. Have never grown the actual broccoli raab or cime de rapa, just its very close cousin, the turnip for this dual purpose.
I would love to know a bit about your climate to know if the perennial kale can over winter here in the harz mountains in Germany. Can the plant tolerate lots of rain? Minus 20 degrees? My nights in summer reach about ten degrees. Does the kale grow with that nighttime temperature? I'm at a us zone 6 if that helps. I'd love anyone in a similar climate to suggest a perennial kale that is hardy.
@@Jowdee I had both outside last winter and cuttings in the greenhouse for insurance. Taunton Deane was in two places in the garden and died in both, but variegated survived well outside. In the greenhouse they were fine. We are in a frost hollow, they are not fully hardy.
Thank you for sharing this, it's hugely helpful. 🙏

Loving the feline interruption 😂
Hei! Have you found any frost tolerant genes? Would like to try some near Molde in Norway.
Not so easy to find perennial kale... any tip where to buy in Denmark? I saw there is German online shop but they have been out of stock forever.
Do you sell seeds?

They’ve survived in my garden in North East Scotland. A couple of years ago we reached -15C and the plants came through that ok.
@@Jowdee I think that could survive in my greenhouse thanks! What variety did you grow?
@@tinnerste2507 I have Taunton Deane and Daubentons. Kale are extremely hardy, you should def give them a go and see how they do
