It shows that when you take care of your gear, it will take care of you. Thank you for emphasizing ensuring the bolts don't get cross-threaded! Always, always thread by hand first. If you can. Caffeinator out.
Yeah that top bolt on the 7.3's us a real pia for sure! You coulda put a newer 6.0 starter which cranks them over way quicker but this oem style one works fine, I put one in mine several years ago before I knew about the 6.0 working in there
Dude the starter on my v6 ranger was a NIGHTMARE lol. I got under looked at it and thought oh wow that’s pretty accessible. Nah those bolts were awful 🤣
Occasionally, it was making a grinding noise when it would start, and it had locked up once before pulling over 100 A and only making a loud clicking noise
It had been starting to make some funny noises when starting, and when it finally would not start, I checked the power draw with an amp clamp and it was pulling over 100 A
That little starter was some serious "im tired boss, real tired" vibes 😂
Yeah, it was definitely on its last legs
20 years 🤔
Not bad 😎👍🏻
Note to self:
Sometimes, two extra inches is enough.
Sometimes that’s all the extra you need

Great point!
what was that jack?
Because that thing looks REALLY handy
I mean, 2 inches isnt much but it certainly does help when needed. Lol
Sometimes a little extra is all you need to get the job done

I just had to do the starter in my 6.0 f-250. On my back at night, on a below freezing un paved surface.
That doesn't sound fun, I hope it went smoothly. Luckily enough, I was able to tow mine back to the shop where it was 55 instead of freezing.
Good job🎉
Can you explain how you diagnosed the problem to be the starter motor? For example some specific sounds.
Occasionally, it was making a grinding noise when it would start, and it had locked up once before pulling over 100 A and only making a loud clicking noise
I could do that one! Good job!
The diagnosis of the problem is usually tougher than the fix, how did you know it was the starter and not a fuse or a relay or wiring or something?
It had been starting to make some funny noises when starting, and when it finally would not start, I checked the power draw with an amp clamp and it was pulling over 100 A
Two inches is fine!
How long was that starter making noise? Holy cow
An extra two inches makes all the difference
That new starter is not gonna last 20yrs. Stuff was just made better back then.
Be careful driving around with something as heavy as a starter on the dash, you really dont want that thing flying through the air in a crash
Woah that little electric jack-thingy looked neat. What exactly is it? Newbie here, thanks!
