I don’t really mind sharing this publicly. But I’m gonna put a content warning for SA and CSA.
This song speaks so deeply to me. Especially as she sings about how it scares her how much this person loves her. How she can’t take their touch even when she wants to.
My biological father raped me as a toddler. When I found out I couldn’t stand anyone touching me. Then, two more people came along and did the same thing to me.
I met a wonderful man who took me in as his son. And I can’t let myself be held by him. Even when I want too. I’m so stuck in fear that I’ll get hurt again. Even when I love him so much because he took me in and was the greatest parent figure I’ve ever had. He loves me so much and proves it to me everyday.
It truly feels like I “fell in love with a war”. I’m living as if all the bad things are reoccurring or are still happening. And when it’s not? I sit and keep it in my back-pocket to look at whenever things are too calm. I live off of that fear everyday. That “pearl”.
