This was a GREAT tutorial! I'm surprised how you let each layer of paint dry before pulling the print; it's been years since I did gel printing, but I remember it always feeling like a race to lay down paints and pull prints BEFORE the paint dried. Your method is just so much more relaxed, with more time to think about colors, potential effects and what the next layer could be. Thank you, I'll be back to see your future videos!

I'm glad you found it helpful! And you're so right - I hadn't thought about it from that angle!

Best beginner tutorial out there! Great job! Love your straightforward and calm demeanor. And - a really excellentsimple explanation of the “ reverse” thought process, through “a piece of glass”. Bravo!

I made several gelli plates about 5 years ago, and they’re just fine. Don’t know where this idea that they don’t last comes from. Mine aren’t kept in a fridge, just in a stack, separated with sheets of thin acrylic so that I can move them easily. There’s no mould, or anything. They’re so cheap to make, and easy, while the bought ones are very expensive indeed, and limited in size. I’m limited only by the largest size and shape I can find to use as a mould.

Good to know! We made one over five years ago and maybe just didn't care for it properly. I'll update my info. Do you have a certain recipe you use? I'd love to make myself a larger plate.

How long do you let it dry? Is there a reason you use a hair dryer rather than a heat gun?

Depends on how thick paint is...but usually 5 minutes for a thin layer without the dryer. And I just don't own a heat gun 🤣 It's been on my list though.

I would be concerned that a heat gun wouldn't be good for the polymers in either the plate or the paint, and may melt or otherwise damage the surfaces. A heat gun's temperature is much higher and more intensely focussed than a hair dryer.

I purchased a gel plate and when I spread the paint over the surface it beads up, so I'm not sure if I am supposed to clean it before using it the first time or not. Anyone have any ideas? It was dry, so not the problem you mentioned in the video.

You may have a thin layer of oil on the new plate - dry scrubbing it with some dawn dish soap and drying thoroughly! Should remove that layer!

The only thing is missing at the beginning for beginners is where to get the gel plate 😊 otherwise great video

Yes, you are right! 🤣 My gel plates are from Gelli Arts and I have bought some from Amazon and some directly from the supplier. There are other brands that I've heard good things about, but have never used.
