Ok this is simple I wanna learn more about the Electric part or the cars and the programming. I've been working in a shop from scratch not knowing anything about cars and now I understand a lot about cars this is my 4th month and I think I'm doing ok. The funny part about cars is the fact the more you learn to more you realize you don't know. I've rebuild a couple of engines and run dozens of diagnostics here and there I understood how to change most parts of a car.
I keep rewinding while having my cofee thinking I missed something, it was rebuilt because it was "using oil and made a strange noise". If this is the remedy for every car using oil and making strange noises this must be the most expensive shop on the planet to go to. Did I miss what the diagnosis was??
Isn't oil burning usually due to worn valve stem sesls, valve guides or worn rings/bores? If a low milage bottom end looks like that someone needs a talking to.
Wurden die Zylinder nicht vermessen, gebohrt, gehohnt? Stossspiel der neuen Kolbenringe eingestellt? Hauptlagergasse gemessen? Pleuel vermessen? Ventilschaftdichtungen erneuert? Hier fehlt so einiges für eine gute Motorüberholung…
Mechanics in the comments already know, but this video exemplifies why when you receive a “rebuilt” engine you have to completely tear it back down yourself to measure every single bearing clearance and check every single part to confirm it is actually ready to be run.
Ummmm. Did you watch it? This so called crack team of race mechanics didn't show or say anything about using a reman engine, nor did they measure anything, NOR did they use gaskets where gaskets are needed. I'm no Ferrari tech, but that engine is gonna leak oil.
Who has time for that? Or who is going to pay for it? If I have to tear it down and build it back, I would just rebuild it myself. I buy rebuilt engines from Mercedes, BMW, Honda, and just as they come out of the box they go into the car.
It would be a 30 hours video if they show everything. Those engines require a full measurement and clearance of everything. The owner will not take that car to a corner shop n ghetto street. If you are a real mechanics, not a you tube fake ass mechanics installing brakes in your garage, you know the complexity of European engineering. So don't be a hatter
@@felixsantiago5606 Actually, I am a factory certified Ducati technician and know just a little about how to build an engine. If the proper work was done on this engine, they would have been proud enough to show quick jump cuts of them measuring tolerances and and other important details. It could all fit within a 10min video.
Apart from the wires, hoses and all that shit in the top of the engine, it's a beautyfully simple thing. Ferrari engines are way more simple then I expected them to be.
Could it be possible to do a full video because i may receive this engine for a swap in like 1 month (already ordered and i’m in engineering) and it would be nice to see how you rebuild it !
I learned the reason the engine burns oil is a combination of a few things. The piston rings could be burnt up, the valves could be bent, the valve seals in the cylinder heads probably need to be replaced.
They receive rebuilds because tolerances are so tight in these cars that over time, the stresses cause them to wear out. It's not like pushrod v8s that can have larger thresholds. These are designed to be at limit from manufacturer to foot.
When the valley cover is off, what are those openings on each cylinder? Coolant passages? Oil drainage? At first it looked like a 2 stroke, was like wtf? Too bad they didn't start it, so we could hear a fresh Ferrari motor build.
I was surprised seeing the 'head gaskets' oiled before installing. I have never seen that done before. Could the M Mechanic channel respond to why this was done? I have always been taught that head gaskets are always to be installed dry; as many have a wax coating on them. Overall, I enjoyed the video.
@@elgoog7830 I might also agree with your speculation as to the "why" they did it this way? However, since this is a "Professional racing team" doing the rebuild; I was hoping to hear from them directly; as to why they did it this way. Unfortunately, there is no response from the "Pros.?"
@@johnedwards785 I'm very educated in mechanics and engines in general. I am not saying I am correct, but it's an educated assumption. That being said, it may just be that particular engine builders method of assembly, because putting oil on a head gasket, I wouldn't say is typical, nor ethical. But also wouldn't say a thin layer of oil would hurt anything either.
What is the approximate cost breakout on parts and labor? Parts alone must be near 25k. New con rods for the shiny pistons? I also assume by refurbishing the wiring harness, you mean replace? On second thought, more than 25k for parts.
Engine looked wonderful after cleaned repainted but what the hell was the diagnosis? was time taken to measure bearing clearances, crankshaft thrust and a thousand other things? What all needed replaced?

That engine is surprisingly rough looking for a 2009. What's the mileage and where does it call home? Ferrari's are not usually daily drivers. I have engines over 100K that look better.

you can get that complete engine for about 60-70K with reasonable mileage, so I'd assume a rebuild is a fraction of that. 20-30k sounds, including labour sounds right to me
It always amazes me that mechanics know where everything goes when reassembling a motor
Pure luck
U get use to it i open a s63 amg mercedes engine 3times until i fix and that engine was like a book to me i can open that engine now for like 8 hours
One thing we never see in these total engine rebuilds: they never turn the engine on at the end 😂

I presume the gaskets used were ""rubber"" otherwise why cover them in oil?.
valve guide freely smooth.not stuck.
What caused the wear though, judging by the heads and cams it wasn't very high mileage, needs more investigation for me
Probably just revving like a madman (st*pid) with a cold engine (st*pid combo x2) repeatedly which is commonly done to these beautiful engines

Looks like poor maintenance
Well scored bottom end shells were a clue.Probably low on oil.

I'd guess it's to ease any binding, when the head is being torqued down. Essentially help ensure the gasket sits completely flat(?).

Don’t think they measured anything. Looks like a “good’nuff” slap-it-back-together kind of job. Not how you or I would have done it.
