- Welcome to the South Downs Way! This is Part 6 of this popular long distance route that runs 100 miles from Winchester city in Hampshire to Eastbourne on the East Sussex coast, covering 3 counties and the South Downs National Park.
In Part 6 I am joined by my other half Dawn and a subscriber named Ian (who also has a channel named Rudge Outdoors). We walked 16 miles from the top of Beeding Hill (after spending a night in a bell tent at Truleigh Hill Youth Hostel), then wild camped overnight near the summit of Ditchling Beacon (the highest point in East Sussex), before continuing along the trail to Housedean Farm Campsite and the A27 crossing where the section ends.
We are now into East Sussex (the final county of the South Downs Way) and only have 3 sections left ( Housedean Farm A27 to Alfriston, Alfriston to Eastbourne via Jevington and Alfriston to Eastbourne via Beachy Head)! We used our OEX Phoxx 2 tent. Ian used his Alpkit Soloist XL tent.

Great camping, great cameraderie, views and cafés....what more could you want! Thanks Tom Dawn and Ian for taking us on your walk.😊
Thanks for watching
Hi Tom and Dawn, your journey is certainly bringing back lots of good memories for me. It's amazing how much I now realize I missed when I walked the SDW last June, - all those water taps for one thing!!😆Like Ian I took along the Alpkit Soloist, lightweight and very comfortable. I also spent the night at Housedean's campsite, and I can confirm the facilities were first class. It has a small farm shop where you can resupply, showers/toilets, kitchen area and plenty of sockets to recharge your phone etc. Great film as always Tom, looking forward to the next installment.
👍👍
What a great video, and wow that camping spot you got there 19:30 ! It looks just perfect, with a great view and cozy sheltered by the bushes surrounding!😍
Thank you very much! It was like it was designed for wild camping that spot, one of the best spots I've ever found.
Thanks for another great video as always... Really enjoyed watching this long distance walk
Thanks 👍
Just what I needed on a rainy day up t'north 👍

'Pinch a Loaf' hahhahhahahha I haven't heard that saying in years!! 🤣😂😂🤣

The content and filming is first class, you feel that you have been brought along.
Thank you very much, that's really kind of you to say so! I'm doing my best🤣👍

Love the guinea fowl at 9:36 and 9:43 - I've got 2 of them! Those toasties sure looked good. Great camp spot as well - well found. Some lovely scenery again. ATB 👍🙏🏕
Thanks 👍 yeah proud of that spot mate. The toasties were good but I prefer a simpler toasty, it was a bit posh🤣👍
Thanks guys...I really enjoyed this one 👍. This looks like a great walk... and I love the idea of local cafes along the way 👌.
I'll take a look at Rudge Outdoors...that Alpkit looked like a handy tent 👍
Glad Dawn's got an Osprey...it looked comfy. I hope it's still looking after her 🤞.

Hi Tom, another great video this buddy thanks for sharing. You guys were in my neck of the woods for this one could see my home village of Hassocks on the video👍! You even pitched up at one of my wild camping spots i use up there which I thought was pretty cool! I have to say that spot is an absolute gem, completely out of the wind and nice and flat and also proper stealthy, can't be seen at all from the path so well done for finding that one mate👌! Ian seems like a sound fella too will check out his channel too. As I mentioned on your amberley video be great to hook up with you guys for a wild camp/hike this year. Keep them coming mate and all the best to you and dawn mate. Cheers, Neil.
Small world ain't it?! We've both camped in the EXACT same spot! Wow! Yeah it was brilliant definitely up for a camp there again maybe in summer. Email me or DM me on Instagram and we'll sort something out for spring 👍
