I would agree with you to an extent. I've recently rediscovered a book called "How To Improvise" by Hal Crook. It's pretty old. When I originally encountered it, I was dismissive because it didn't have a lot of secret tricks about jazz. What it has is what I realize now that I really need - how to play. In this "how" dimension, for example one of the topics is Pacing/phrasing/rhythmic density. That is so critical and often blown off. So I think these are absolutely skills - they just aren't as sexy as some.
Can you make another video titled "PLAYING Jazz is about HOW, not WHAT"? It wasn't until recently that I learned that how I play my notes is more important than what I play. Scales. licks, patterns--all don't mean a thing if the how is ignored (groove, placement, dynamics, articulation, punctuation--how notes begin and end... all these little details add up to a lot more than the notes themselves). I dunno, could be a cool next video that ties into topics that you shared before on older RUclips videos that you've posted :)
@@jazzguitar Take one phrase and play it 10 different ways, focusing on the HOW of the notes since the what is already pre-established. I dunno, that's what comes to mind right now: )You know, show how the "how" of the notes brings the "what" alive, makes the notes sound professional--you know what I mean? I'm sure you can come up with something better, really digging your videos!

Yes! That would be a good follow up. Is there anything specifically you'd like me to address?
