Most Prius batteries last well over 200k miles, and some have gone much longer. A family member bought a used Prius several years ago and the car had over 130k on it when she bought it. Five years later (and another 150k miles) the battery was still going strong when she sold it…

Interestingly my Toyota hybrid battery just failed .. 6 year.. as I always get it serviced with Toyota they told me it is warranted for 15 years. It was replaced yesterday, completely free of charge.

@@Sunnysky321 from Toyota U.K. Website… I’m talking about the battery warranty on my hybrid car.
15 Year Toyota Hybrid Battery Cover
In addition to the manufacturer warranty, your Toyota Hybrid battery can benefit from up to 15 years of warranty in total. With every service at a Toyota dealer, the warranty is extended for a further 12 months, up to the 15th year of registration.

Hi. I have a 10year old Sonata hybrid. It doesn't need to be plugged in to charge, just driving will do. I'll be away for 1.5 weeks & it's parked outside with mid40s at night & high 50s, mid60s during day. I used to hear that one should unplug the car battery so you don't come home to a car that won't start. Is there anything I can do for my hybrid so this won't happen ? thx.

I’m wondering how talking about hybrid batteries only Prius, toyota vehicles are discussed and reviewed. What about the best domestic hybrid, NiMeH batteries on 2009-2012 Ford Escape Hybrid (Ltd) which at its time outperformed Toyota’s and allowed up to 40mph coasting only on this battery. Also this domestic full hybrid engine leader as NYPD, and SF/NY taxi reached 300,000 mileage reliability?

I bought a 2017 Chevy Volt in 2020. When I got it, it had a max range of 50ish to 60 miles depending on temperature. Lower in the winter. Now in the summer of 2022, my max is 50. For a 5 year old car, that's not bad. I expect it will keep going for a few more years at an acceptable rate, but I'm putting aside money now for the replacement.

I heard that some hybrid only have one battery. The same battery is used to start the car and to drive the car when in electric mode. The problem is that if that battery dies, you can not start the car and drive it using your gas mode.
The other issue I have is how much will someone be willing to pay you for your 8 or so old car, knowing they will soon have to pay around $8000 for a new battery plus $$$ for labor?
Buying a hybrid will not save you gas on the long run and will be worthless after a shorter period than a gas only car.

I put 423,000 miles on my 2017 Niro FE in 4-1/2 years before the hybrid battery died. The dealership wants $10,000 to replace it AND they keep the core fee! Complete BS on their part as it's a $2300 battery. They just want to sell you a new car. Screw that, I bought another 2017 FE with 171K for less than $10G. Now I have a spare car for work and I'll grab a used battery for about $1500.

I am paranoid about my high voltage battery failing on my 2020 Camry hybrid, since it did happen on my 2006 Prius hybrid. I have brought up this concern with my Toyota dealer, and hope that they are doing what is necessary for its trouble free maintenance. I’ve only been averaging about 7000 miles per year. My question is: how often should this battery be assembly be cleaned/ maintained given my mileage?
Thanks for any information you can provide to me.

That battery vent filter is super easy to clean. Just use a screw driver with 3 minutes. You will be done. Your 2006 Prius probably does not have vent, so it last much shorter than modern hybrids.

Refurbished Prius batteries are around $1,500 with exchange while a new one from the dealer is around $4,000. Aftermarket lithium ion batteries are lighter and about $2k. I plan to go this route if I need one. My Prius is 10 years old now. Battery doesn’t function on super hot days but that’s only a few days a year. Still, it’s days are numbered.

Again, when talking about batteries, the host did not address cold weather. I find that funny. You focused only on hot weather and not the fact that your car will not start if the weather freezes. When Texas froze last year all the Teslas in our neighborhood were dead in the water. Nobody's Tesla worked.
