Brilliant video Henry Giroux, well articulated. This is a hard concept for some to grasp, most likely because the individualistic thinking is embedded in every major institution from school, to work. It takes a lot to see the forest for the trees.

I can see clearly, thank you. This was the most clear explanation on neo liberalism, this continues to develop a caste system, too many people are hurting, while these ‘law makers’ and their mouth pieces accumulate exorbitant wealth.
neoliberalism is a euphemism or a deflective term, and its intention is to avoid using terms like "radical capitalism", "corruption" or similar terms, or even just capitalism. questioning and criticising capitalism is made difficult through complex and ambiguous terms like "neoliberalism". the term allows us to avoid heavily connotated terms and therefore obscures the political discourse.
The very word neoliberalism is the exact opposite of what it literally means in political practice at this time.

Lots of people go to Africa free of charge to help the poor and hungry. In fact lots of people have to save up their own money, or fund raise so that they can have the privilege of helping others for free. The notion that all productivity and and humanitarianism must be incentivized is a delusion, that is repeatedly being disproved time and time again, in many more examples than the "Go to Africa", example. There are certainly those who do hold the "What's in it for me" mentality, and it makes sense for those people to assume everyone else is the same. But they are not. To say that you need money or you will starve, is true only under the current social structure. Henry is proposing that it doesn't have to be that way, and your suggestion that it's either Self Preservation or Death, is a false dichotomy. One can acquire the means for sufficient self preservation, and ALSO help others who are unable to do the same... free of charge.
When the financial sector is borrowing more money than anyone else, . . . (Wasn't the financial sector supposed to invest in labor and production, companies, etc. remember making "investments" ? That is how ridiculous things are, just a joke.

Fascinating. I'm new to Dr Giroux. My observation, well what is he offering as an alternative? The rich and the poor are not going away. Human beings are not solved by the state or economics, we are not solved from with out, we are solved from within. His points regarding education ought to have included parents. The family, in it's broadest sense, is the cornerstone of 'any' civilisation. We have allowed the state to redefine 'family' and it's failing, miserably. Fathers have a central role to play here and masculinity needs room to breathe in an era where the media perceives it as toxic and at the same time is fascinated by homo-eroticism. Ne Timeas.

Are you discomforted by opposing ideas and perspectives? Do you only surround yourself with people whose ideas you agree with? If this was a school assignment, you should understand that school, in particular upper level college and university are places that will challenge your viewpoints and present you with alternatives. You don't have to agree with it all, but you should rejoice at the opportunity to learn and understand the world beyond the one you've constructed for yourself. But if you are unwilling to even try and appreciate the perspectives and opinions of others... Do you really deserve to have an opinion of your own?

Firstly, the idea that everyone who has a position like this is somehow a 'marxist' is ridiculous and secondly, i would recommend reading some Karl Marx, a lot of what he wrote is just common sense (despite being taken to the extreme by some communist states). If you can see past all the western propaganda, he was right on a lot of stuff like - workers need to unite to prevent their own enslavement (economic), increasing inequality is an inevitable consequence of capitalist system and there are some things the state should have a monopoly on like - the issuance of money. All of these things are coming to fruition right now and Henry Giroux is putting his head above the parapet to bring those issues to us. There is a difference between people who see that Marx made some very good points and those who are 'Marxists'.
