Jennifer Hale is a amazing voice actress. I was really taken back when I listened to voice samples of her work from video games and TV programmes. The range of accents and voice pitches she can put on is incredible.
You're probably right. I played ME with a male Shep, got halfway through ME2 with male shep and decided on a whim to try femshep one day. I never played male shep again, ever. I have never played ME3 with a male shep, ever. Femshep is waaaay more badass, and I'm a guy.
If anything, both the male and female have honest moments that I support fully, mostly because my dad is ex-military. The part where Hackett in ME3 says "I'm going to tell you something Shepard that I've learned the hard way. You can pay a soldier to fire a gun and to take a hill, but you can't pay him to believe.", what resonates to all of us players is to believe that Shepard is fighting for something important, something that we all need to believe. Terra Fira, more commonly known as Earth, the birthplace of the Human Race; Earth IS worth fighting for no matter what gender you are, because as a great man once said "It doesn't matter if you're black or white because we're all still Human.", the Human Race is equal on all parts -- good and bad. The fact that the graphics in the game are as equally fantastic now (ME4) as the graphics in this trailer, the actual ME3 game is still pretty fantastic on graphics. The best believable voice for me was Liara, Thios, Garrius, Mordin, the thief girl in the ME2 DLC, Hackett, Anderson, Female Shepard and the Quarian, who I totally forgot as its been a while since I played on ME2 and ME3. Who created the song at the end of the video, before the logo appears?
Kaidan is totally an awesome trade for Ashley! Simply 'cause whether you're playing as a male or a female, Kaidan will still tap that. Also dem eyebrows. They're alive, I swear.
Jennifer Hale is also Commander Sarah Palmer in Halo 4 :) And the "voice" of Samus Aran in the Metroid Prime Trilogy (although she never actually spoke)
I understand much better now, and see where you're coming from. I'm glad we cleared that up. I guess for me, I've always played as a customized Femshep, and so her voice and appearance is much more known to me than even the "main" Shepard. If I had played as him since the beginning of ME1 I would probably feel the same way you do. Thanks.
My only complaint is that Kaidan gets no airtime. Ashley in both versions of the trailer seems wrong somehow. Also I think Femshep is showing more emotion on her face which I think is grand given the large scale fight we see her in :)
I got one femshep too just to see how the acting and story was. She is a vampire/albino skinned Goth chick renegade with a tough and flirty attitude which has gone so well I kept her. Hale's voice goes so well with female badasses. I tried many times to get a maleshep hero I liked to reflect me as a man, but its accually harder to wrong with the females. I was impressed.
Using the exact same face for each version (save for having freckles or not) isn't exactly a beauty contest...They just wanted to see how fans wanted her to be represented, since the fans wanted to have her on the cover as an option. Yes, the face is different, but it's not really younger. I don't spend time gazing at my Shepard's chest, personally, but the armor hasn't really changed that much. In fact, the one i used in 3 was pretty bulky because it had the best benefits.
Ok, as a woman that you are, I'am glad you got your heroine too. But I considered him the real since first ME, and the one that I costumize was just for my pleasure. The videos was the real deal and he (based on the voice actor) was The sheppard.
@EHAmos because EA only made this trailer with a female version because people thought that they were "sexist" they would need to create a entirely new model for kaiden and that cost money and quite allot (from our perspective) and for a trailer that would show them for a few second probably wasn't worth it :P
yeah same here. I played as a male Shepard but I still think if they do a canon Mass Effect (which sometimes they undoubtedly do.) I think Shepard should be a woman. It adds to the awesomeness of the game.
Take back earth, til you get to the end and then ... well you'll see. To say you won't be happy is like saying getting hit by a bus "may cause bruising".
I'm glad they're focusing on FemShep more. I just wish they didn't slather her face in heavy makeup. Seriously, what person in battle would be worrying about their lipstick and mascara?
See, I'm a Male, and I do like the fact that Bioware publicly announced FemShep I have her as the wallpaper to my phone. Not just because she is hot, but because it is good that the industry is getting women more into video games.
"Some" advantage, like what exactly? What does he have over the female Shepard? Because he's based on an actual person? That's the best reason you can come up with?
why couldn't this trailer be the opening half of the game's ending scene? Where Shepard kill, kicks ass, and fights the battles on her/his terms? destroys every single Reaper and ends the fight with the death of Harbenger.
Its not me being ignorant, its called having my own opinion. Also the reason why I put "I dont understand" is because every video I watch on ME3 the person is a female. I did not know so many people like to play them and wondered why?
It's odd...Ashley Williams is on the MaleShep trailer...It seems normal that Kaidan Alenko should have been in the FemShep version...;) And Jennifer Hale's voice just sends chills down my spine...Shepard was always female for me...I'm a girl...:)
Talking about Femshep I just had an idea..... Why don't they make a ME game that is set 30 years before ME1, and label it "Mass Effect:First Contact", I hear it often in Dialogues of Humans and Turians.....and your character is Shepard's Mom...since they never show her face....T_T
It makes me laugh at how pathetic the fact that FemShep somehow manages to bother putting make-up on when she's trying to save the galaxy. Either way it's still a good trailer. I think it works a little better with Sheploo in the trailer.
I love femshep (voice acting massively better) but I'm not so sure on this canon femshep... I think mine is more realistic and less doll like. Well, that's the beauty of Shepard's customization isn't it?
Why do people hate on femShep? She's a strong young woman who isn't afraid to kick ass... I little bit like a lady I remember from the alien movies... What was her name?? Oh yeah RIPLEY!! seriously!! Girls play as femShep coz we like to get totally immersed in the game. Hearing some boring bloke read the script is just... Blurgh!!
Oh no! They chose a different default face/hair combo! Ahhhh it's the end of the world! /sarcasm. But seriously, I have no clue why you're getting so bent up about this. Especially compared to Ash, who's standing right next to Shep, Shep isn't overly sexualized at all. That's one of the reasons I love her so much as a character, is because she ISN'T. Stop looking to nit pick where there aren't any nits to be picked.
Maybe you are right...But you are talking about men.Take under consideration the fact that many women play and enjoy Mass Effect too!;).But that's the magic of Mass Effect, the uniqueness in the gameplay of each player.I don't judge anyone,I just pinpoint something I noticed...
If this were a movie I'd watch it. And to appease both genders it would be cool if they had twin sheps (female/male). heh heh Go Femshep! get you some Garrus! FemShep rocks!
I, for one intended to play as the default Male shepard. I honestly can't stand most female protagonists; but my partner mentioned romances & so on so I bit the bullet & created my own FemShep. I can't have been more happy with the result. I adore my Shepard & feel she trumps the defaults so heavily. Very unexpected, but a pleasant surprise :)
In my opinion, Shepard should be a women. It would make the whole series even more awesome then it already is (minus the endings). But of course, I honestly don't want Bioware to "canonize" Shepards gender.
to be more precise, they waited until you bought the first two, dedicated a shitload of time and effort to getting the game just so and then they gave you the third game. You follow me? And THEN they wait until you bust your ass on the third game, allowed you to think everything you did in the first two would fit into the ending and THEN they fuck you in the form of an "artistic" ending.
Have you ever considered that some girls play Mass Effect, too? Besides, there is no "real" Shepard, the Caucasian male Shepard is just there to satisfy some close-minded Caucasian males. Mass Effect is all about creating what you want the "real" Shepard to be, and sometimes not just choice-wise.
What the hell does "overly sexualized" even mean? They show she has breast? Her armor is more fitted than male armor? She's not the minority when it comes to the representation of women? Most women are A) attractive B) have breast and C) wear fitted clothing. Therefore I think she's a perfect representation. If you want a fat, toothless, 45 year old, flat-chested, balding, hairy faced, land whale that wears plaid jackets and torn, baggy jeans, I suggest visiting your local feminist seminar.
At least, that's all he was to me, but now I understand he is much more than that to some people. I never accused Bioware of racism. But I do think that they had a target audience, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's an American game, and violent video games are targeted at a male audience. In Final Fantasy all the characters are Asian. I get that. Again, I replied while I was ticked-off, and that's never a good idea. I thought you were being close minded.
first of all im black and i was being sarcastic second of all name calling is not getting anyone any where third this annoys me because the majority of protagonists in western media are white males. not aisan not black not Chinese no women i am not mentally Superior to anyone i beleave in equality and if you want to continue this conversation act like an adult.
For 1. I never said I had a problem with Female shep just thought it was wierd everybody likes to play them thats all. 2. I can have my own opinion. 3. Why are you raging over what I said you need to calm your ass down and actually talk like you have some sense, and prove your point without flipping out over it.
you seem to neglect that the female or male Shepard is ultimately left up to the player's choice. The fact that you would think of the Shepard that was chosen for trailers as the canon Shepard shows a real lack of originality on your part.
BioWare made an attempt to make a well designed female character model. And how is ME3 more sexualized? The fact that you have more choices in who you pursue a romance with doesn't make it more sexualized. With exception to the Specialist Traynor romance, all of the romance scenes in ME3 are shorter and less graphic than any of the scenes in the previous two games.
im a vocal person who likes to voice their opinion, plain and simple. and the fact you decided to reply after a month tells me that you had nothing better to do than go online and tell someone to shut up.so go whine to someone else because i have neither the time nor patience to listen to some guy over the internet.
in the middle of battle and STILL looking for ship models for her cabin!

I wouldn't take it that far. Kaidan might not be everyone's favourite character in the game, but he's not as useless as Chobot's character.
agreed! I personally love the voice acting for femshep, in my opinion a much better voice actor than male shepard
I got one femshep too just to see how the acting and story was. She is a vampire/albino skinned Goth chick renegade with a tough and flirty attitude which has gone so well I kept her. If they did alternate Shep, why not having her standing with Kaiden instead of Ashley?
Yep, felt like she is putting more emotion in the whole thing, making it more epic.
@stuartputt being able to play as femshep has been in there since the first game
Shepard: The world's strongest ginger.

@stuartputt You're wrong. I've had FemShep since the first game then transferred her to the second one.

What's scarier than an angry Shepherd? An angry female Shepherd.
since its a fem shep trailer they should have put kaiden instead of aah
Ugh the default Femshep is SOOO much better (i mean default from ME2 and 1)

does anyone know when the DLC withthe new endings is coming out?
what part of i neither have the time nor patience did you not understand.
Fem Shep doesn't degrade women, Ashley Williams degrades women.

Then make yours a woman. The only 'canon' Shepard is YOUR personal Shepard.
Agreed. I've done both male and femshep. Hale is a much better VA
But are you a proud one?
thats the question!
well the game has no records of his/her father....but that would be good too...
@stuartputt I tend to disagree.
It would've been cool if they put Kaidan next to Shepard. Ashley kind of irks me. That's why I killed her off :3
Просто нет слов, это круто.
Would it be so expensive for them to make a game that looks like this trailer? Wow
@stuartputt Shepard is the most badass Space Commander who has ever graced video games. Gender doesn't factor into this.
Would've been better if they put Kaiden there instead. Even if almost everyone I know left him to die.
That feel when the CG trailer was better than the game.
Lmao no the game was excellent. Hope you’ve grown up
I guess it would've helped if they had chosen a real person for the face, like they did for MaleShep.
If this were a movie I'd watch it. And to appease both genders it would be cool if they had twin sheps (female/male). heh heh Go Femshep! get you some Garrus!

I never liked Kaidan either, left him to die on Virmire. (since you have to decide between him and Ashley)
I definitely prefer Jennifer Hale's voice acting to Mark Meer's.
What the hell does "overly sexualized" even mean? They show she has breast? Her armor is more fitted than male armor? She's not the minority when it comes to the representation of women? Awesome, but it should have been Kaidan.. Not Ashley.
I would have been cool if they replaced ashley with kaiden for this trailer
Femshep looks like that russian woman from Orange is the new black.
why don't we have such cinematics inside the game ? WHY
