I was born in the early 80's and Jim Lang was the first Newlywed Game host I recollect seeing. I was too young to know of the previous Eubanks episodes until he returned to the show soon after. RIP JIM
I just happened to stumble upon this; I'm John of couple number 4, John and Lisa. During the interview process for this pilot week and trial run of shows, we did really well but there were no cameras for the "test" games that we had to do and one of those games was in front of the producer Chuck Berris himself. The night that the show was taped, I was so struck with stage-fright that I couldn't think of any answers. The best one was, "what would your wife say is your favorite herb?" Someone answered "salt" so I followed with salt too! 34 years ago....seems like yesterday!
This was done for ABC daytime in 1984 with Jim Lange as the host. Five pilot shows of "The New Newlywed Game" for ABC's daytime schedule but wasn't picked up. Bob Eubanks was unable to host this version at the time because he was hosting "Dream House" for NBC for a little over a year, but he did return to ABC later that year to host "Trivia Trap", his first TV game show for Mark Goodson( his second being "The New Card Sharks" for CBS). A year later, Bob Eubanks hosted the syndicated version of "The New Newlywed Game" in 1985 while four months later in 1986(Monday, January 6, 1986), Jim Lange started hosting TV's first million dollar game show for syndication, "The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime". Also on the same day and date, Bob Eubanks started hosting the revival of "Card Sharks"("The Card Sharks") for CBS' s daytime schedule. By the way this episode of "The New Newlywed Game" aired on April Fool's Day in 2003 on The Game Show Network.
I like Jim Lange. He is one of the legends in the Game Show world, but I'd have to say this is Bob Eubanks' game. This is great to see, though. Thanks for uploading this, Wink.
Jim was just getting the show ready for Bob(he was hosting Dream House), when he became available. Of course, later that year, Jim went on to host $100,000 Name That Tune(Tom Kennedy was busy with Body Language, at that time)!!!
I agree, that happens sometimes, like Pyramid was always Dick Clark's show, even though Bill Cullen & John Davidson did well, it just didn't feel right without Dick Clark.
Imagine the trajectory of game shows for a couple: meeting on The Dating Game, getting married, going on The Newlywed Game, hitting a rough patch in the marriage, going on 3's A Crowd...and Chuck Barris is there with you every step of the way!
Jim Lange is the only game show that has hosted both "The Dating Game" and "The Newlywed Game" Jim hosted this version for a week and didn't miss a beat.
NIGHT OWL I agree. Nobody could match Bob Eubanks. I will forever equate Jim Lange with The Dating Game, although he went on to host Name That Tune months later.

Have as many laughs as you want, but PLEASE...no fighting unless it's off-camera! I imagined some people might be saying, "Well, then why are you here? Don't you realize that that made The Newlywed Game "The Newlywed Game?" Well, here's my answer: Normally, I don't watch the show (that being one of the reasons), but since I heard that Jim Lange was hosting it and I do recall hearing about an episode shown as a "Game Of The Week" on the old Game Show Network, I figured that this must be it and I want to see what I have missed.
Jim Lange hosting NEW NEWLYWED GAME. Aired week February 13th thru 17th 1984. Plus announcer ROD RODDY!! Soap-1977 thru 1980. All New Battle Stars 1981-1982 Alex Trebek. So you think you've got troubles in 1982 with Jay Johnson. Hit Men & Press Your Luck with Peter Tomarken 1983 thru 1986 & Price is Right-Tom Kennedy & Bob Barker 1985-1986.
3 theories: one, they did this solely to retain the rights to the newlywed game and block one of he other networks from reviving it (ABC did that with the last run of millionaire for about 10 shows). two, It was a test run for a revival three, Something else was supposed to air, but it got delayed for whatever reason and they figured, well we have the rights to newlywed game, let's use it.

Ahh this is the sweetest!
Rod did an awesome job announcing TNG... Enthusiastic introductions! Jim Lange did an admirable job hosting... Thanks for the upload!

They were all so cute! Met to be together! Hope they still are!
Love the show and some of the answers. Wonder how many fights and or divorces happen after.

Jim was great wherever he hosted, whether it was under Chuck Barris, Barry & Enright (Bullseye, "21" pilot), or even Sandy Frank ($100k NTT)
Eubanks was hosting Dream House on NBC at the time
Jim was just getting the show ready for Bob(he was hosting Dream House), when he became available. Of course, later that year, Jim went on to host $100,000 Name That Tune(Tom Kennedy was busy with Body Language, at that time)!!!

R.I.P. Jim Lange and Rod Roddy
Bob Eubanks would return that fall in the same time slot as host of "Trivia Trap".
Bob Eubanks hosted an episode of "The Dating Game" in 1978. So both Jim Lange and Bob Eubanks have hosted both shows.
Nice to see Jim doing a show that was once paired up in syndication with Bob's show.Last ABC NG this time around.I wonder if Jim and Bob were friends?
@@georgemaster9271, absolutely- Bob even spoke cordially about Jim, when he passed away, 5 yrs. ago!!!

I don’t wonder. I’m pretty certain all are divorced.
Lydia and Mike were just darling even if Mike didn’t know that coffee wasn’t an herb. They’re the only couple I could see lasting if any of them did.
When I said Kansolls said it to give done books to dollar store so some can buy cheaply in enjoy just like the well to do
Jim Lange is the only game show that has hosted both "The Dating Game" and "The Newlywed Game" Jim hosted this version for a week and didn't miss a beat.
Chuck "Chuckie Baby" Barris probably had no problem having Lange host TNNG, given that Barris produced both TNG and TDG.
Jack Barry hosted The Joker's Wild and Tic Tac Dough too
Bob Eubanks hosted an episode of "The Dating Game" in the late 70s. So he has also hosted both.
5:18 Lol. He said, _"I'm dead."_
16:08 Seems like the order of the cards was different for this episode. Bob instructed the contestants to lift the top card.
Was the Newlywed game and the dating game was taped at the same studio stage
Jim did well with the game. I must confess that I was trying to reimagine the game if Bill Rafferty hosted.
you know something....it could work
@@gfalcon I thought he did Real People first. Was he a contestant on TNG?
Rod Roddy at the microphone.

I like the old newlywed game better.. this one tries to hard for trouble instead of fun.
What if they didn’t like the gift that was selected especially for them.
Before they get on the show, couples are asked what they wanted to play for. Four couples who chose the same prize (package) are put together.
Everyone of these episodes have at least one question that you just know when you answer it , your ass is grass for sure !!!
4:48 - 4:54 They ask the questions and you answer them! What more can I say?
I thin ABC wanted to revive TNNG, but for some reason they didn't
Dan Barker they did
