Two police officers acted in "lawful self-defense" in the fatal shooting of former ER actress Vanessa Marquez, who was shot and killed in her home in South Pasadena, California, in 2018, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has ruled.
I heard the Vanessa's family filed a lawsuit against the cops. My question is this, where were the family when Vanessa was in this terrible condition? How come they care after she was killed and not during her lifetime. Oh wait... of course, they want dinero.
As evidenced by what? She was in and out of mental healthcare for years. People in that condition frequently hide their issues when around loved ones or on the phone. Those closest to them never fully know if they're on the verge of a lapse or already deep into one. Everyone seems to have this idea that they should have known or been up her ass 24/7. It doesn't work that way. We all know someone with mental health issues, and most of us aren't performing daily or even weekly check-ins on them. Fucking sick to cast shame on people who lost a family member without knowing the first thing about their family dynamic.
People keep asking this and it's honestly an unfair question. I've lived like this in the past. But when I answered the phone or had to leave the house for some reason, you would probably never have guessed. She'd had horrible experiences seeking mental health treatment before, so wanting help was off the table. Which meant going it either with family or alone. And if she chose to go it alone, which many do, it's actually not that hard to clean up for a day or an hour when you need to in order to convince people you're doing better than you are. People assume the fact a welfare check was called means she was in there day and night for weeks, but I actually haven't seen any explanation for why it was called. It doesn't take that long to fuck up an apartment anyway. I've done it in less than a week on numerous occasions.
this was suicide she literally screamed out “kill me” poor girl i hope she’s resting in peace and fucking shame on her family for just letting her live like this
maybe but she was a grown woman and often family does not live close by or even in the same city nor do people always tell their family members how bad off they are , in fact they make up stories to the contrary
@Natalina G I agree. My heart feels so sad for her. I've been suicidal in the past & I'm chronically ill • I live far from family but they know I'm sick. I tell people when I know I'm feeling dangerous to me. Of course, I'm not typical either. Many people feel shame for having mental illnesses & epilepsy - wrong & sad, but our society still largely doesn't understand a brain/psych. disease is JUST as bad • if not worse • than a body disease. RIP poor Vanessa...

Yeah i think it was just a very mentally unwell woman who never got the proper support by medical staff, her family, her peers etc. sad, sad situation all around.
I went to high school with her, she was in my 2nd year Spanish class. I didn't know her but she was quiet, smart, soft spoken, and looked way different than she did on ER. The way she looked in Stand and Deliver was exactly how she looked in high school, right down to the glasses and barrettes. So sad that she suffered like this, and how disgusting of her family to cash in like they did.
Did she seem to have any issues / problems then? I have family that developed mental conditions in 12th grade or after graduating high school, so it seems a lot of mental conditions appear at the end of teenage years. I guess hormonal changes in the brain as we hit our late teens?
They literally broke in for a wellness check and was forcing her to leave her home and come with them.....she wasn't bothering anybody before they came from the sound of it, they should've just stayed out of it after making sure she was ok instead of trying to force her to leave and come with them. They can be concerned all they want but it's none of their business, if she doesn't want to go why try and force her? What if she didn't want the help? It'd be no different than me saying I'm concerned about your car having a bad tire or pouring out blue smoke and forcing you to come with me to a repair shop and make you fix it because I'm "concerned" even if you aren't.....js

Those psychiatric wards in ER hospitals are terrifying and poorly run. You are treated like a prisoner and as someone that is potentially dangerous. South Pasadena, California - South Pasadena police released body camera footage of an officer-involved shooting that killed actress Vanessa Marquez in August 2018. Two police officers acted in "lawful self-defense" in the fatal shooting of former ER actress Vanessa Marquez, who was shot and killed in her home in South Pasadena, California, in 2018, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has ruled.

@@ateam6486 you do realize that she threatened them right? They didn't just enter her house and shoot her
I heard the Vanessa's family filed a lawsuit against the cops.
Damn, our society is a mess. Where was her family!?!? Other than to sue the city?

Comments for dummies : this woman appears depressed and may have been using the police as a form of committing suicide. (which is common. it’s called “suicide by police”) look up the definition if you’re confused on what that is. in other words she purposely behaved in a specific way in order for the police to follow protocol and use lethal force on her. one of the first things she screamed to them was for them to kill her.
You obviously misunderstood what i was saying because no one at all made excuse for the police. like i said i am the wrong person to talk to. i’m literally someone very active in support of blm for many years, the woke movement and ect. i can sit here and debunk the entire criminal justice system if i wanted to and had time. i was never in support of that lmfao. i’m not someone to make excuses for cops. you need to pay attention instead of crying over comments you don’t even understand . just keep it moving bill, cry to someone who’s ignorant and cares. every comment you make the more stupid you look 💀
I love how the family sued the police when
1. She said kill me
2. Pulled a weapon that appeared to be a firearm
3. Did not adhere to officers commands
4. Approached the officers with the weapon appearing to be a firearm.
Sounds like she asked for it.

Sorry… so sorry lady. I have it too. I totally understand and now you aren’t suffering, I really hope it was a quick death. I understand this suffering and there is no end. It’s probably better she isn’t suffering still. The moment I heard them say they were going take her to the hospital, I knew the fear and panic. When you’re already so sick, it is literal torture. People don’t understand it but it’s torture. I have been hospitalized in a similar fashion and, it was torture. Much worse than at home torture of not functioning, and not able to feel anything but horrible anxiety. Just constant suffering. And I’ve done a lot in my life too when I can push myself. Would it have been so hard to just leave her alone and send someone who knew her to talk with her? She hadn’t broken any laws, she’s was obviously disturbed, but they still force her to come out and gunned her down! Pathetic!!
So basically the family sued the police after the fact? Did someone remind them she needed help and her family wasn't there to provide her help. The family probably just wanted the lawsuit money.
@Steven Sweeden Read the full case, she was estranged from her family, especially her mother(The one suing) who she did not have a good relationship with.
This is 100 percent a cash grab.

People can't talk when they're having a seizure.
Haha I was just thinking that, by the way the officer responded I'm guessing he also knew that.
Pseudoseizures or otherwise known as non-epileptic seizures. Or as we call them in EMS (fake seizures).
Good ol’ pseudo seizures. I have seen it many times performed by junkies trying to get free morphine.
Why didn't the health care providers.... notice that? (I do agree ...no one talks during a seizure!). I think she seemed okay... and, just wanted to be left alone.
Professional actress and probably a narcissist. She was suicidal, but wanted the police to do it for her, and her family hoped to make some money by falsely suing the police.
This woman was in one of my favorite movies, Stand and Deliver. R.I.P
Why tf was an assault rifle taken to a wellness check? That alone could have made a mentally unstable person feel threatened. Your job at that point is to save a life, not to anticipate taking a life. You have a pistol, learn to use it instead of relying on high power firearms that leave less chance to survive. Your job isn't to be an executioner.
But he shut kill from her, while this is his job !! Aaa yes ...okaaaay...😢
The commentary is actually really good, shows me things id miss on a raw vid. Thx
I would've totally missed the part where she pointed the gun at them before they shot her
@@BreakHarpe exactly what i was talking about.
I liked it a lot too. I hope this becomes a regular thing on this channel.
It's disgusting to know that her mom sued over her daughter's death and got over $450,000 from it. What were the officers suppose to do, if someone points a firearm at them, even though it was a replica? It's obvious that she wanted to die (suicide by cop). Just glad that these officers didn't lose their jobs over this.
Or their lives.
The idiots should have left her alone instead of attempting to kidnap someone. It is not the states' business or capacity. There are real crimes being committed all across this border, there are mass murderers in our government, and you think that kidnapping and murder should be made easier. The police handled this well, they tried many times to de-escalate this. She clearly wanted to perish, mental health is incredibly important, she was not mentally okay for sure. It’s sad reading about her money hungry family
They really should've just left her like she wanted, they had no right to try force her to go somewhere she didn't want to go, this should not have happened
This is heartbreaking. At the end of the day I don't think she wanted to live.
Sad.
Definitely suicide by cop. Depression kills. What kills me is that her family basically gave her the means to kill herself by calling the cops for a welfare check. I would reckon that their intentions were honorable but it still makes them partially responsible for this outcome.

This woman did not break any laws she did not commit a crime she pulled a gun in self-defense of her own home to prevent them from taking her away. This woman knows how bad that hospital is she's been there before and she does not want to go back. I asked you who was this woman hurting for this to happen to her. If I want to sit in my house and play chess with myself all day long, that is my right. Imagine a group of men breaking into your house to take you somewhere because they don't think you're well because you're playing chess with yourself.
Poor girl. The last six words by the narrator adds to the eerieness of the entire tragedy.
If you can say "I'm having a seizure" you're not having one.
Debatable. Not clear if that was drugs or medical. Welfare check appears clear so it likely was medical... Also doesn't show just how long they were there with the cuts.
yr right. i seen a relative having a seizure and after 1 unintelligible word or sentence, they're on the floor and completely out of it. Marquez on the other hand was severely depressed and suicidal.
You both realize there are multiple kinds of seizures... And severity... Yes?
